OldManJJ Grows Again!

Update time!

Good news and bad news.

The good news, the big tent is showing no signs of powdery mildew.

The bad news, the girls in the big tent aren't happy and the girls in the small tent are still showing signs of PM. Now it's on the sugar leaves. Today, they will get a milk bath, 40% milk and 60% water. Frankly, I may just scrap the small tent as the environment isn't great in there, we will see.

We still have several weeks to go and a couple girls have far too many yellow leaves for my liking, perhaps it's the PM treatment.

I haven't tried the ZeroTol HC because of the PPE requirements, I mean, if you have to gear up to spray it, I'm not sure I'd smoke it after. I'll keep it around to deep clean after.

Here is the porn, any advice is appreciated!

Doesn’t look as bad to my eyes as you made it sound, I was scared! They’re pretty late, could you be seeing some early fade? Or maybe pump the N up a little? A little hard to tell, any chance you could post a closeup on one plant and specifically what you don’t like?

@InTheShed regarding cirtic acid, what does it do? Does it just make the water more alkaline? I have sprayed twice with PH 8.5 water which is supposed to kill PM. Does the citric acid do something different?

It kills PM but doesn't prevent it. I can't tell you how or why, but I know it's the active ingredient in Flying Skull Nuke'em, which many folks were claiming was the only thing that worked on their PM. Too rich for my budget so I figured it was cheap and easy to make my own.

I had tried milk at various dilutions and H2O2 from diluted to straight 3% and none of those worked. This works and I use it in flower on the entire plant.

I even use it for my harvest wash along with baking soda (without the soap).

@InTheShed can you share your recipe and where you got the citric acid? Sorry if you posted elsewhere and i havent seen it.
Sure!

Here is my recipe for the 1% spray I use (scale up as necessary...I now mix a gallon at time!):
5g citric acid
500ml distilled water
10 pipette drops dish soap

(For the record, 10 pipette drops of dish soap works out to a little less than 1ml in 1500ml of water, or .3ml per 500ml. I have since switched to yucca powder which is a little less than ¼ tsp/gallon.)

Mix well and spray, and make sure you get the whole plant as PM can hide between the buds and the branch.

@InTheShed a couple more questions: does the type of dish soap matter? I have Dawn on hand. Why the distilled water? I have filtered water here, it removes chlorine, chloramines, voc's and heavy metals. Will that be fine?

Thanks!

I went with distilled because I figured that would be closer to how Nuke'em was made, but if you have RO that should work as well.

Interestingly, I looked up directions on another citric acid product yesterday for root aphids and it specifically mentioned using very low ppm water when using it, either distilled or RO.

Distilled is really cheap here too.

And I used Dawn for mine so that works!

Update time, finally......yup, I suck, LOL.

The fall colors are here. Trichomes say they aren't ready and I'm hoping they have another week or two in them. Today marks week 8 of flower. I am still seeing small signs of PM but only on the clones. PSA, never take clones from someone who keeps chickens in their basement near their plants . For the PM I am using the @Bill284 method - 10ml 3%H2O2 to 1000 ml water. they will get sprayed every time I water until they finish. The ones that have PM may get a bud wash prior to drying. We will see what things look like at the time.

There are probably sill a bunch of leaves I can pluck but I like to let them steal all the nutrients they can.

Fantastic wow, great work. :yahoo:
Hope you are having a nice morning.
Just curious how are your temps?

Stay safe
Bill284

@Bill284 temps are around 82 lights on and 68-72 lights out. Since we are in week 8, I am dropping the lights on temp to about 75 with my AC. I have also thought about dialing my lights back a little bit at the end.

Not bad, slight drop would help.
RH 50 's ?
Do you use the vpd chart?
I let my girls grow into a full strength light throughout flower.
Always at 100% watching for heat or light damage constantly.
The buds need energy to finish up hard and tight.
I don't see a benefit to reducing their energy. :Namaste:
Do you have 2 lights in there?

For what it’s worth, I do the same. Crank the light and let them grow into it.

@Bill284 RH is right around 50%. I use the VPD chart yes, however, I let it creep out of range and get a little hotter to try and help with the PM. That didn't work, LOL. I will give the girls that have signs of PM the Jorge Cervantes bath when I chop. Since I can't post the video, here is the search link if you want to watch https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=powdery+mildew+jorge+cervantes
In the tent there are 2 unmentionable lights :)

Update time, the fall colors are really starting to show now. Trichome shots say they are not ready but are close. We will see this weekend. The girls did show me some signs yesterday that they are slowing down their water consumption, we will see later today when the lights are on. Lately, they have been going through a gallon plus every other day.

Wow. Gorgeous colors, especially in that one quadrant! Trichome coverage is nice and consistent too. Great buds, great grow. Betcha it stinks in there, eh?
