Regor's Bubba Kush Clone - 1st Grow - Test of Mental Patience

My 60% Indica White Widow and 65% indica Caramelicious each had one plant stretch 6 inches (25 to 31) during first 5 weeks of flower, the other White Widow abd Caramelicious grew less than 3 inches. The one that didn't stretch had A) low light right before flower, or B) scrog right before flower.

Not much of a knowledge base, hope it helps.

For the same 4 plants. Removing low blooms early had no effect on total yield, I just ended up with popcorn lower down. Since the low blooms matured slower, removing the lower flowers meant the whole plant had the same trichomes colors at the same time.

When we sorted out the low popcorn at trim, this meant more head high, less couch lock for the popcorn.

Again, my pool of knowledge is only four slightly indica dominant plants :)

9/21/14 Bubba Kush in Flower with Pests :(

Just got back from 4 days camping, and got to take a good long close look at my baby.

So ,,,,,,, I flipped the switch on 8/24, so she's apps 3-4 weeks into flower and buds are growing nicely. Triches are still clear.

The DAMN pests have reappeared, but this time on some leafs. Mostly lower leafs, but a few here and there spread around towards the middle.

I thought they were the same pests as I've had in the past - Root Aphids, but the ones I had on the roots appeared darker. These appear to be one color, light beige, and appear young. Young Spider mites? No webs, and all appear young.

This is the bottom of leaves:

I cut off the heavily infested lower leaves. She's due for a watering, but I'm gonna give it one more day to dry and hopeful starve out some pests. But now that they're on the leaves, I fear they're gonna start doing some damage.

I also have some leaf damage, curled leaf ends, brown, dry and brittle. I do not think this is a deficiency, but a side affect of close to a week of high temps - mid to high 80's non-stop. I did not have any way to lower the temps other than to pull out some of the heat with my venting. She seemed to thrive on the heat, but now the pests appeared to have thrived also. The curled up leaves and brown tips are sporadic here and there, with most leaves showing no problems. The leaves that have the damage do NOT have any pests on them.

Anyone have some advice this late in flower? A safe way to treat for this kind of pest without hurting my buds.
Agree with my analysis of leaf tips?

Right now, in week 3-4 of flowering, she has been getting her 6.7ph RO with 4ml of Bloom, and runoff has been holding at appx 6.4.

Help ... Help ....

From all I have read so far, I've got early stage Spider Mites.

I posted pics of the actual pests on the bottom of the flowers, but failed to take a pic showing a few tiny white dots on the top of the leafs. That was my first clue to look at the bottom.

So , now what to do. 3-4 weeks into flower is a rough time to eradicate, but I gotta do something. I did notice that growth did seem to slow down, maybe now I know why.

Gonna add some SNS to my water tonight, so that should help my roots and soil, but not the pests on my leaves.

I see plenty of options when in Veg, but not so many in flower :(

Ah man that does suck :(

I agree, they do look like spider mites, and SNS works amazing on taking care of those little bastards. I've seen a number of people use SNS for various pests with great results.

SNS is natural, and I believe it can be sprayed on the underside of the leaves no problem. And you have the option of budwashing when you harvest to remove any traces of the SNS (which is just natural oils).

9/22 Mother in flower - day number 29

It's a race for the end ....
Buds vs Bugs

She got watered tonight: my mix contained 1 gal RO water, with 1 tsp Dyna-Grow Bloom, with 2oz SNS 203, at a nice 6.8 ph. (she drank 1/2 gallon). I am attacking the soil with the SNS, and going to give her a light foliar spray with Neem oil in the morning when the lights are scheduled to go off ;)

I ALMOST screwed up. I mixed 1 gallon of water and added 1 TBS of bloom. I mixed it, and it suddenly struck me ... oh shit, that was supposed to be 1 tsp, NOT 1 tbs... oops.... that gallon of water will be held and mixed up with 2 more gallons to get me thru till harvest, to get the right ratio ;)

Inspected closely again, and found a few more leaves with mites ... snip snip....

Buds are piling up, and everything is looking mighty frosty ;) If I can just halt the pests where they are, and make a little headway, I may just make it to the finish line. I think she should have been a little fuller by now, but the pests no doubt held me back, but with maybe another 3-4 weeks, I'm hoping to pile on some weight and density.

9/26 Been a few days ....

9/23 Tues: Foliar spray with Neem (knocking out those pests, and breaking the cycle)
9/25 Thurs: Foliar spray with Neem (knocking out those pests)
9/26 Fri: Watered with 1 tsp Bloom, 2oz SNS, ph 6.8, and 3tsp Cal-Mag

This will be the last supplement of Cal-Mag. She was showing some early signs of a deficiency, and I thought I'd give her one last dose. The Dyna-Grow Bloom has some goodies in it, but I felt mother needed one last boost, especially since I went pretty heavy with the perlite, and feared I might be washing away too many nutes.

No Picture porn, but I did a thorough inspection, and all Triches are clear. I've read Bubba Kush likes a long flower - 8-9 weeks, so she does have a good 4 weeks to go! No more SNS also, I think I've got all pests under control.

Plans - 4 weeks to go, keep working the Dyna-grow Bloom for 2 weeks, then the last 2 weeks of flushing.

DAMN .... how do your do it with every grow ???????????????????????????? The smell is just ............yummy ........... taking a good whiff of a bud smells JUST like opening up some dispensary grade good Kush.

To allow the main cola to get all she can within the last month, I've really been debating taking off the bottom two branches. I feel that they might be taking away from the rest of the plant. Granted, there are buds growing on the lower 2 branches, but they are way smaller than the rest of the plant, and more spread out.

Thats all for tonight.... Pics next time !!

I always grab a few small little buds (popcorn ones) I figure it helps out the bigger ones and gives me something to dry and try.

Do you crop the entire branch (to include popcorn buds) or actually just trim off the buds?

I just get in there and start trimming few for a bit of a taste sampling. I just chop it up fine and spread it out on a plate and put it above the toaster oven for ten minutes went hiking today with a buddy and smoked up some popcorn buds in my vaporgenie pipe my daughter bought me for my birthday and they sure were better in that then rolled up.

We smoke the washed popcorn buds from trimming while waiting on full dry of the main branches.
Then we smoke all the remaining popcorn while waiting for main branches to cure.
We like a lot of popcorn, since they dry faster :)

We define popcorn as any bud less than about 3/4 gram when fully dried.

Just out of curiosity how do you quick dry your popcorn. I have my method, chopped up fine on a plate on top of the toaster oven set on broil and ten minutes x 3 and fluff in between seems to work well. heehee. Curiosity killed the Cat you know but satisfaction brought it back.

Sorry for the interjection Regor

quick dry= 180 degrees oven until the buds feel crinkly dry. We added the buds in stages as we trimmied, so no defined amount of time.

Only harvested twice from a single grow, so no expert :)

9/29 Go mama go

She drank much faster this go around. I wasn't expecting to water her tonight, but I'm busy tomorrow and wouldn't be able to water for 2 days ... WAY too long for mother.

QUESTION Please:

I'm at appx week 4-5 of flowering, and I have some of my leaves dying quickly, and easily plucked off.

Few tidbits:
~ Height: They all seem to be close to the middle of the plant
~ They all seem to be close to the stem
~ They are all pretty small leaves as you see in the pic

I automatically assume lack of lighting, but the buds in that general area seem to be doing ok. Maybe not as big as they could be. That area is pretty thick in small leaves, as I just did not defoliate much in her earlier vegging life.

Leaf on Jewelers loop is one I picked off.

At this age of flower, your sexy girls will be sucking in the nutrients: from the ground, from the water, from their own leaves.
I leave the leaves on until they have been sucked dry brown or fall off on their own. (Leave the leaves :) )

There's may be time to add flowering nutrients (blizzard) which will help feed your girls hunger, but I'll leave those recommendations to the experienced growers :)

I agree with Radogast. Mine are doing the same thing I believe it's that time of life they start to eat themselves to feed the bud.
