This is why you don't think when stoned

Every grow I start with a full pot of soil. By the end of the grow there is 3/4 of a pot of soil. I have been growing for years and know most of this comes from the compaction of the soil. My stoned mind see's things different.

If a plant pulls stuff out of the soil for growth. Wouldn't that drop the soil level? Basically what was in the soil is now on top of the soil as plant matter. So the soil level would go down right?

Hold it. The plant is also making roots in that same soil. The plant continues filling the pot with roots while it grows. Wouldn't that make the soil level go up?

I was confused till I found a Solution! I smoke a joint of less thought provoking weed.

About 90% of the material in a plant's cell is water. We... water our plants. Aside from the (somewhat minuscule) amount of usable nutrients in the soil, most of it never enters the plant.

'Twas an entertaining post, though. Please smoke a lot more sativa, and continue to post.
