300W LED Shootout: 12/12 From Seed - Featuring Super Silver Haze

back in the saddle, good start!
This should be real educational and real fun; glad to have you aboard, sir!
here we go here we go here we go!
yes...although I'd have rather harvested the last grow, I'm still very excited to see how this all pans out :yummy:
Late but here and subbed.
:welcome: Hosebomber! Thanks for coming by - I hope you enjoy the journal and feel free to add to the thread :yahoo:

I'm guilty: since this is a 12/12 from seed, I should be technically germinating under 12/12. I am though, using 24/0 for the initial seedlings, and will transplant them into the 5.5" pots as soon as there is a root in the bottom of the rapid rooter. In retrospect, should have soaked and popped directly into soil, but I liked having the seeds/seedlings in a warmer environs for the start. Hope nobody holds this oversight against me, but it's a bit too late to start over ;)

Have 5 of the SSH enjoying the 63W LED that is just above them; I'll check them for roots tomorrow and transplant and place in the tent starting with a random side and alternating until I have no more seedlings to put out.

Once again, a summary for those who arrived late and need a bong hit or two to catch up:

  • Two 300W LED Units - "Brand X" and the GS300 Pro Bloom from our 420 Sponsor, Grow Stealth LED.
  • 12/12 No Mercy with Super Silver Haze, hoping for 8 healthy girls from 18 seeds
  • Morgan Composting 'Dairy Doo' Outdoor Mix 301
  • RODI Water spiked with 5ml/gal of Cal-Mag+
  • Water additives: blackstrap molasses, Snow Storm Ultra and Gravity
  • Compost tea waterings using Dr. Earth Organic 8™ Bud and Bloom Booster 4-10-7
  • Superoots AirPots

quoting again:
here we go here we go here we go!

:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Cant wait to see the little seedlings dancing to the pink light. Like a flower bending in the breeze, sway with me--- i mean... Yeaaa..... here we go!! (little too large of a dose ooopseeee)
:goodluck:

Day 1

Seven seedlings nestled in 5"x5" pots now, randomly placed alternately under "Side A" and "Side B" (left to right in any full shots). This process will continue until I have no more seedlings to place in the tent.

I set both the GS300 and the Brand X light with their bezels 36" above the tops of the 5"x5" pots, this was recommended by Grow Stealth LED, so I merely followed suit with Brand X. Fair's fair, right?

Since I have seedlings in pots, in soil, that have been watered, and they're in their little halves of the tent, I officially declare the shootout as ON. I'm documenting the hell out of this photographically, but will only share shots WITHOUT the LED units in them, and then will also probably skip the tons of boring 3-10 day old crappy baby shots. Everyone knows in their hearts they really only want the bud porn!:yummy:

Hello Jozo, your comparison setup looks very nice! I really enjoyed following you in your last journal, I learned some awesome tips new growers out there should really look into. I'm in the middle of a harvest, got 2.15 oz from 2 out of 4 thus far. I must say the cal-mag and non-sulfured mollases additions truly took what was looking like sub-par looking buds to ice cold frostiness! This was just some reggie bagseed turned into something wonderful, I can't thank you enough and the rest of great growers of the 420 universe for their advice! Wishing you positive vibes brother!:grinjoint:

Dude, that so just made my day. Honestly. To be part of this community is to share and receive - and the praise you gave me is well received! Thanks, brother Stink!:thanks:

Still no other seedlings showing up - I'm trying not to be discouraged, but you'd hope I'd get more than 7 viable babies from 18 seeds treated the same.

Oh well, I'll give them another week and if I get no more, I'll either have to run with what I have (and hope for more than 3 females), or delay and cut clones in 30 days or so.

Dammit, dammit, dammit.

I feel your pain bro. Just rolled you a good luck joint. This ones for you.

When we finish our current grow, we'll have to do that grow-off Iron Chef style, maybe we should have OMM, TS and Propa Gator decide on which seeds we should buy for the grow, kind of like the secret ingredient. We could then order from tehsame seed bank and have the same genetics to make it fair(er). Maybe use single seed center to buy 3~4 femmed seeds. OK, sounds like OMM, TS and PG need to put their heads together and pick us a strain>

Since all three of our grows are at nearly the same start time we may end fairly close together, I may be interested in joining in on the fun/research.

I have the GS600 Pro-Bloom arriving tomorrow, my seeds are down in my dwc 18 odd hrs or so now. This may give us a reflection of the difference in the 300w vs 600w lights as well.

If y'all decide 3 isnt a crowd and dwc is ok, it could be a thing to watch. My only thoughts are all using 1 strain from same bank (the sponsors here), and would 12/12 be viable in dwc and still produce decent yield per plant. That's my own selfish part though.

Sounds like a plan to me; what makes it better is you doing DWC, me doing the dirt thing and stevehman doing the plastic tubes of love :yummy: I've got bigger fish to fry at the moment, as does stevehman (two grows at once!?!)

Day 7

the 7 samurai in the tent are doing well - they got another watering last night and they're close to having their second fullset of true leaves now. As soon as they do, I will start adding about half tsp./gallon of molasses to the waterings. That will get amped up once they start filling out and then again when true flowering begins.

On a sadder note, still no sprouts from the remaining 11 seeds of SSH, so I scrapped them. The fellow at the hydro store said that Rapid Rooters™ were pre-treated with something (as he claimed also for Root Riot™ cubes), although I found no evidence of that on GH's site. I'm just chalking it up to bad luck and poor beans. That said, I wish GrowGSL would pop in and give his blessing on me dropping some regular Amnesia Haze(f) x The Ultimate(m) seeds I have and adding them to the mix, remembering that my goal is 4 females on each side of the tent.

If no one is opposed to this, I'll start the soak for 48 hours, then pop 'em right into the soil and put them in the tent. No screwing around with those little spongy things anymore - soils where they're genetically predisposed to grow and so they shall!

jmho, but I'd say if you have the fems drop em in asap so they are not too far behind.

Edit: oh ya, got my light this afternoon, plugged her in, took out the cfl's, 4 hrs later the first of 8 seeds is through the wool. Looks like tomorrow I should have 6/8 through the wool, and by Fri 8/8.

Hi Jozo -

First of all, man I'm bummed for you about the poor germ rate on those SSH seeds. That sucks! I'd germ those other ones for sure.

Just thought I'd weigh in with this -- I've always used rapid rooters and they've given me 80-90% germination or so. I just germed 6 in them, and was 6 for 6. Maybe something wrong with the seeds or those particular rooters? (Just thought I'd weigh in as I'm a huge fan of the rapid rooters).

I don't believe they are pre-treated, per se', but they do contain very mild micro-nutrients which seem to give the seedlings a little nourishment at the beginning.

I like to keep them damp but not wet, and use plain RO water (about 6.0PH or so). I usually put them in a humidity tray with a heat mat underneath and a towel between the heat mat and the bottom of the humidity dome. I keep the dome vents closed at the beginning and the whole thing covered until they peek out of the rooter, then I put the humidity dome with seedling under a 2x4 T5 veg light to start, and slowly start cracking the vents on the humidity dome and giving them a little time here and there with the dome off.

Sheesh, sorry for the long post - probably didn't need to share all that! Too much :bong: tonight?

Again, sorry for the bum seeds. :rip:

Plastic tubes of love.......:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Sounds like an 80's rock band. I will use that on my next journal: stevehman's PTOL

Looking forward to doing a grow off, three methods, three growers, same seeds and start dates. That will be interesting, and fun!

On the germinating, I've been using root riot cube with 100% success, I think you must have gotten some bad beans. If you treated them all the same, then you should have had a higher germ rate.

Well, it happens. I've used those things to good effect previously, so I guess I was just in denial about having a less then 50% germination rate. Oh well, live and learn :thanks:

We need to poll the masters and see what they think we should grow - I'm kinda leaning towards a fast flowering indica myself.......
