Hmmm..
It isn’t by any means a completely reliable diagnostic. You might consider reducing the light to 12 hours if you want them to flower.
It's an outdoor grow, so he has to wait for the days to shorten. Either that, or bring them inside every day to simulate that. I agree with you that they are probably photoperiod plants. Fifty five days is too long for an autoflower.

I was told by one of the guys on here that the 3 leaf configuration suggested ruderalis????

I'm not versed enough in cannabis genetics to know. Let's ask @Pennywise, as he's quite knowledgeable.

I'm counting 5 and 7 on those pics ;) and many start with 3 and then get more, nothing to do with it being an auto or not as I have had plenty of photo's do that (I have only grown photo's so far, so no experience with autos here firsthand, but I agree that's a long time for an auto to not switch so probably photo's).

I’ve heard of plants growing with 3 leaflets but not sure if it’s genetic or environmental

Most often, it's the result of stress, IMHO.

My auto plants have normal "cannabis" leaves (no 13-fingered sativa gems, yet, though :( ).
