Mr Messy 1st Grow Journal - Three Room 2400w Gavita Digi Coco

New Member
Welcome guys and gals to my first grow Journal. I'm a hydro grower from my first Perlite 400w set up in 1990 till the present day. (It was stolen 6 days before harvest on New Year's Eve.)
Since then I have vowed to keep going! And to grow and fight the criminality of cannabis that led to the theft. I'm still growing ;)-"""
I receive no outside help, (apart from my friends) sponsorship or freebies. I use the products I use because they ROCK,
The equipment I use has been a matter of trial and error and also money. I would advise all novice growers to start where they can with the equipment they can beg borrow or save up for. I make lots of things I use from a whole system (see shots) to simple things like light boxes for the air intake on my tent. You are starting a journey which will never end both knowledge and equipment wise. I'm still learning every day and the equipment I use gets better every year. It just never stops!
I have three spaces, a clone/veg room and two flower rooms. I work on perpetual flower in both flower rooms one month apart in cycle. This allows me to pick every month, give or take. I have just moved state so will be starting from seed to fill my rooms and also using a new form of hydro for me in both flower rooms. Coco coir with a gravity fed Tropft Blumat ceramic water sensor drip system with a 5% approx run to off. The run off will be minimal and kept in a pot saucer and wicked back to the pot using a layer of expanded clay balls with the base of the airpot in be. Between the coco and the stones, coco can be re used, it gets better with time apparently. The TB sensor will let the pot dry to about 25% approx of its fresh watered state and the drip tray water passes back into the pot in about 15 mins so is not a problem for the roots.
I have used my old self made hydroponic pot in pot air stone recirculating system to grow the mothers and gather the clones. There will be plenty of shots of this system to come. It's a great hardware store setup and has served me well for the sea of green fast hydro method for many years.

Time for a change!

Let start with the strains.

I have been growing my favourite strain for two years now and will be adding three new strains to the mix. I will have one of each of the new strains and the rest will be Grape God. Clones will be taken from the strongest and best samples and veged for the next flower room to need restocking.

Next Generation Grape God. Great yield, bag appeal, taste and flavour. 4 Feminised. My Fav!

Cali Connection Girl Scout Cookies (Mint) Cannabis cup winner. 1 Feminised. Friend request.

DNA Holly Grail Kush. Cannabis cup winner. 1 Feminised. Friend request.

Barnys Sweet Tooth. Cannabis cup winner. Regular bag seed. Growers request.

All seeds from Demon Seeds Pick and Mix except the Sweet Tooth which was given to me by a Japanese grower. Please check with the breeders for genetics and full details. I might get it wrong, god forbid :)

Now to the spaces.

I use a 2.5m*1.5m*2.5m room for my seedlings, clones and vegetation. It will shortly have a Turbo Clone 24 site for the cuttings with a 2 batten GrowLux CFL. These seeds and clones were put in Growdan rock wool (waiting to long for Turbo Clone). A PS3 T5 6500k 8 batten CFL(waiting for delivery) for the first stage of veg and a 400w magnetic Phillips Son-T Agro HPS for the last few weeks. This room is heated and cooled with a floor fan on the inlet and a small computer extraction fan running 24/7. When the clones are ready they are transplanted into 1.5lt airpots. Fed with a gravity drip feeder and hand fed from time to time. They spend about 4 weeks on a nice slow veg and then swap to the HID for rapid dense growth until ready to go to the flower rooms. A week or so depending on the strain. They will be cloned after the forth stage for two stages. This gives me 8 clones from each seedling and tips the plant to about 12-16 branched or so. Week ones will be removed during lollie popping. They are then supercroped and lollie popped and allowed to grow.

Flower room #1.

This room is 2.5*1.5*2.5 powered with 2* 400w magnetic Phillips Son-T Agro HPS. Can fan and filter extraction on a day/night thermostat with fans for air movement. It will have three nice big plants.
It was used for the seedlings to veg and the clones to be started off. Also for fresh clones to be cut, all growing in my old, self built, pot in pot, air stone, recirculating system. This will change to the new coco Blumat system when the clones are ready for transplanting. I will use the old system to put the 1.5lt air pots in to veg with a gravity drip feeder and I will hand water with Algen Extract every few days. I use a Blumat digital water sensor probe to check the moisture content of the coco in all the rooms.

Flower room #2.

This room is a double size garage with a 2.4m*2.4m Grow Lab. The tent is powered by 4*600w Phillips Gavita Digi Enhanced HPS with 600mm CoolTube fixtures. The bulbs are powered by Quantum Digital Dimable Ballast's, EzyGrow 4 point 2400w timer. Can max extraction and filtration on a day/night thermostat that is pushed through the cool tubes. A Self thermostat 2400w convection heater. Oscillating fans. H&G coco coir, Tropft Blumat gravity fed ceramic sensor drip feeder system in 28lt Airpots. 13 of them I hope!
It will soon be controlled buy a SuperPro room controller. Branded as Titan in the US and i will be using CO2 tablets for direct root CO2 stimulation, it's the way of the future. (Still waiting for delivery from the EU of the superpro with 240v and OZI plugs). Flexi Tank res with a small circulation pump, twin fed sonic air stone, thermostat water heater and a Blue Lab garden monitor. This is used for all rooms, it's portable and can be left in one place for constant monitoring if needed.
The garage it self will be air cleaned with a negative ionizer with UV bacterial cleaner and evap cooled in summer.
It has taken years to get to this, stage!
I love my new room!

The Nutrients.

I have been using House & Garden for a few years now and find it to be a great company. They make their own nutes and have large grow greenhouses in Holland for development. They have developed a comprehensive range of nutes and additives designed to perform with each other which have impressed me no end! I have used a few other brands but there is a noticeable difference with the full H&G . I use the whole range and find Drip Clean and Shooting Powder to be truly game changing additives. Drip clean not only keeps your system clean but it works to stop all nutrient block in the plant it self so the flushing period is much shorter, allowing more time for the Shooting Powder to keep pushing the plants into a new budding stage. Normally only three but increased to five and even a few right to the very end. MONSTER BUD! The Algen Extract is also a very high quality kelp product that i hand feed to the plants as it will clog your pipes and dripers, even with drip clean!. I also use three other products, Piraña and Tarantula form Advanced Nutrients and a TDS fulvic treatment. The Advanced Additives are fantastic. They also make their own and specialise in Fungi and Bacterial treatments. Very high quality long lasting organisms. The fulvic helps with everything!
I will also be trying a acid treatment hormone stimulant this time called GA Spray. Sounds interesting.

Lighting Schedule and Training Methods.

I am using the Gas Lamp Routine, GLR (thanks WizHigh) for the first time. It is a great routine, much closer to nature and much less stressful to the plants.

It's timing is as follows.
18 hours light and 6 hours dark for germination, cloning and the first two weeks of veg. This allows a bit more stretching at first for good clones. I will however try the GLR on the second round of clones straight after potting.
5.5 hours light- 1hour dark-5.5 hours of light- 12 hours dark, for veg.
12 hours light and 12 hours dark reducing 0.5 hours per week in flower ending up at 9 hours light- 15 hours dark.

As for the training of the plants I use Supercroping (thanks again to WizHigh) and lollie popping. Supercroping slows reverse transpiration by cracking the main stems to reduce the reverse flow and lollie popping is removing of all lower growth letting the plant concentrate on main branching. I will also tie down the main branches to the side of the pot allowing more light in and a more even and stronger branching. The flowers will be supported by two layers of netting.

Anyway, that's the setup. Remember it takes time to learn, I'm still learning every day (thanks again WizHigh and all the awesome growers on these forums).
Your equipment lists will grow with you and it's all about the plant!

The more you give, the more you get!!

Here are some shots of the first few weeks of setup and production. I will try to explain every shot but please ask questions and offer advise whenever you like. I will up date the grow every week and answer questions every day. Ill try!
I love to learn and share this wonderful experience of growing the HURB!!

P.S. I use cannabis for medical purposes due to a massive accident I had, three broken vertebrate, double compound fracture of the right leg, five broken bones in the foot and a dislocated shoulder with a torn epicarcil. It's the only LONG TERM solution to my pain. I also smoke it for the High :)-""

Thanks for looking.

And hurbman, nice to see you man!:welcome:
Welcome all!

Got he tent up today and two of the lights put together. Nakered!

Yes Please!
I'd love to watch this grow!
:cheer:

Vick, mate, thanks ah. These places are great. Any suggestions let me know ah! ;)

howdy Mr Messy!

im subbed for sure :cheesygrinsmiley:

i dont mean to sound pedantic.. as i hate pedantic ppl LOL BUT i thought i better just confirm with ya brother... your initial statement about GLR seems backwards, you mentioned 5.5 hours of light- .5 hours dark- 5.5 hours light.. then 12 hours of dark. this is probably just a typo which will make me feel stupid for even bringing it up (lol) but it should be 12 hours light- 5.5 hours dark- .5 hours light- 5.5 hours dark.

that blumat system looks bloody awesome mate! its cool how it feeds only what the plants need-just read what it said on the packaging.. look forward to seeing it in action :cheesygrinsmiley:

brother- im very sorry to hear about your accident and the damage from it! that is some of the most hardcore damage i have come across! i wish you all the best with managing it with MMJ :thumb:

i have been looking at H&G range for a bit now, although here in NZ it is fucking expensive! it seems like a really comprehensive line. H&G plus an australian brand "bloom", bloom also looks damned comprehensive... not cheap, but the dilutions make up for it and i believe that at the end of the day ya cant compromise on quality especially when it comes to excellent quality MMJ. its great that you use that range of nutes as i've been wanting to get a growers review of it.. and possibly tips on using certain aspects of it.
i use flairforms range at present and find it really good.. with my last grow i decided i would try the shooting powder in the last 3 weeks... unfortunately due to the circumstances of that grow i had to cut it slightly shorter and feel i didnt get a reliable feedback of its effectiveness from the plants.. i loved how its effervescent! did i read it right above where you mentioned you have extended the use of the shooting powder to upto 5 weeks??? i'd be fascinated to learn more about that!

anyhoo... things are looking great so far mate! and i look forward to seeing what ya can do with those magic beans.. as you probably know i have a few HGK(DNA) beans going at present, i'd be very interested to see any difference in pheno variation with your one too.. also your GSC!

take care brother.. and happy growing!

Welcome 420. Nice!

Alchemist, thanks for that. I will have loads of typos, upside down shots, strange ideas, sorry, I'm old!

The Blumat is awesome, hollow ceramic chamber with a tight top. Adjustable screw cap for different amounts of water release. I'm going to tests different amounts on different plant. To see how much is optimal,in this system. 4 variances should do it. I've put two sensors in each pot. One with a drip line that runs around the edge of the pot to ket it damp and one to dripp on the root ball.each one can be set to drop different amounts of water, hence a really even watering and only when they need it, crave it!

The shooting powder issue was referring to the amount of budding stages you can get a plant to go through in the 8-9 weeks cycle.
Look at it this way. If you GLR supercrop etc, etc, etc then when it's flower time it's time to ROCK.
Shooting powder forces the plant to produce a new round, or stage, of heading. Normally three stages to the heading cycle, you can push it to 5 if you really stress, or should I say tickle the plant a bit. The powder will just keep pushing new budding points over an over again until there 5 layers, if you like , he bud. Supper dense. Shooting powder!

I use the whole range because it was designed to work together.
If I got a car and only put three tyres and three pistons the put some other piston and tyre on it don't ride the same, know what I mean?

The room is all but finished now, three days, and the flower room#1 is still developing the clones. The have grown heaps in 5 days and the GLR is producing the best branching I've seen in ages. It's awesome.
They will be there 7 more days whilst I go ride my snowboard, IT'S SNOWING! Then there will be a big shift, clones will be ready to go in the new room.
Cut new clones.
Set. Blumat in new room.
Take out old hydro and put it new use. There's a surprise coming guys. Ill let you in on it when I'm back.
Water everything.
Etc

Here's some shots of all that.
Cheers guys, I'm off to put some tracks down!

Cooking tip of the day: salt maybe all well and good but with out LUUUUUUV it ant shit!
