NuLife's Soilless Lemon OG Haze Auto: Grow Journal 2016

8/9/16 Veg Stage Week 5 - Water Day with nutes. I did Week3 of the nutes schedule. So after all the reading I've been doing on CocoCoir, apparently people water several times a day. Which means I'm not feeding her enough. But I have to be honest, I do not have the time to water several times a day. So I'm going to feed her every other day this week, Then next week I'll start feeding every day. I don't' know if I would grow in this medium again, or maybe not so many plants at once. Something for me to think about.

I will do pictures on Sat or Sun from now on.

Plant1: ph 5.70 in 5.79 out - ppm 945
Plant2: ph 5.80 in 5.92 out - ppm 910
Plant3: ph 5.87 in 5.87 out - ppm 881

8/11/16 Veg Stage Week 5 - Water Day with nutes. I did Week3 of the nutes schedule. Gave half a gallon of water/nutes instead of a gallon this time. I think that's going to be better for watering more often.

Plant1: ph 5.70 in 5.89 out - ppm 726
Plant2: ph 5.78 in 5.74 out - ppm 694
Plant3: ph 5.76 in 5.85 out - ppm 733

8/13/16 Veg Stage Week 6 - Water Day with nutes. I did Week3 of the nutes schedule. Gave half a gallon of water/nutes. Added some bamboo sticks, and tied some branches to them to opening them up into a star shape.

Plant1: ph 5.70 in 5.89 out - ppm 726
Plant2: ph 5.76 in 5.87 out - ppm 733
Plant3: ph 5.78 in 6.05 out - ppm 694

8/14/16 Week 6 - I've decided since I'm giving less nutes water (1/2 gal) daily during the week that Sunday I will do a flush with gallon of ph water to rinse out any salt/nutes build-up, then a regular feeding with nutes water (1/2 gal). I have done Week3 of the nutes schedule.

It has been a week since defoliating and watching the growth in a week has been very cool. I have come to love the bamboo sticks. I'm finding having these are the easiest way to train the plant to open up into a star shape.

Plant1: Flowering Day 14 - ph 5.79 in 5.94 out - ppm 920 - Defoliated 110 leaves
Plant2: Veg Stage Week 6 - ph 5.40 in 5.80 out ppm 776 - Defoliated 33 leaves (pistils starting to show)
Plant3: Flowering Day 7 - ph 5.78 in 5.75 out - ppm 694 - Defoliated 42 leaves

Very nice job, im watching this as well, starting my first run soon. I see snid is watching over u... You are in very good hands.. I as well follow atrain and the mighty beast.(and snid). They are the foundation of what ill be starting in a few weeks.. Great work keep it up.

8/17/16 - Plant3 was repotted into a 3gal RootMaker pot today just like the other plants. Her other pot was falling apart and didn't have the side airholes the RootMaker has for more oxygen which is better suited for daily watering. Though I'm looking into ordering the Autopots system, which will make daily watering better, helps with my back pain and I can start traveling again.

8/19/16 Week 6 - So I finally got my inexpensive COB lights from Amazon today. These 800w will take up my flowering stage up a notch. I put the other 300w light I was using in the closet and placed it in the tent with the other 300w. All 3 lemons are in the closet, and now the Norther Light as well, under two 800w COBs. I hung them 24-26" above the plants. I will adjust as needed dependent on if the plants can take it or not. The lights have a switch so you can use only 2 lights instead of 4, at 400w, each light. I decided for the first night or two I'm going to only use 400w of the 800w so the girls get use to the new light. Then I will use all four bulbs, at 800w.

Before anyone goes on how it's not good to get cheapy lights, I know. But there are some pluses, I figured on a few things, one I have to save to get my premium lights and I want to be productive until then. Premium lights will be next year after I save for them and after I perfect my grow space, my grow skills, and results. I also figured, if they didn't work out I can use them for it's frame if I ever decided to do DIY COBs in the future. Lastly if they do work out, I can use them for side lighting once I get my premium lights or supplemental lighting just in case I ever have to have a premium light sent away for repair or exchange. Not to mention, the cheapy 300w lights have been working out great. They're growing bushy plants with tight nodes, so I figured it was worth trying their COBs as well. So there is a method to my madness. So bear with me, I will post my results either way.

I will be switching to flowering 12/12 hour schedule tonight for flowering.

The lights, they look whitish not the usual blurple, but in the picture they look more pinkish.

Thanks Snid, I'm very excited. I'm starting my flowering late cause I was waiting for the lights to get delivered, so I hope these lights are worth it.

8/21/16: Week 7

All the plants are handling the COB light well even at full power. I now lowered the light 24" from the plants.

Plant1: Flower Day 21 - It's been a week that I've been feeding everyday, and a flush and feed on Sun. The plant seems to be handling it well. I've been doing week3 of the nutes schedule. I think we're pass stretching period, so this week I'm going to start the Bloom nutes.

I also decided to try a technique I read on here by Light Addict called Backbuilding, it's suppose to fatten up the buds a little bit and making them look a bit nicer. You're basically suppose to snip the very top point of the bud and make it a flat top. I decide to do half of the plant on the right side to see the difference.

:welcome: Photos, I'm a newbie, I definitely need help from time to time. So I welcome anyone and everyone willing to go on this journey of growing with me. Right now I'm in my research and discovery phase, my goal is to test out most theories, ideas, mediums, training techniques etc, so I have a better understanding of each. After reading various different forums on different sites, nothing irritates me more than people passionately and negatively voicing their opinion without any research or testing of their own. They either listen to what other's say, or refuse to waiver from their own experience to learn something that might be valuable one way or another. Even if something I test or try, turns out to be the worse thing for a plant, then I will know for sure, and can speak on it from a place of my own limited experience. I've chosen this site to post my journals and learn from this community because out of all the sites, this seems to be the most respectful of each other, and each other's styles.

Again, thanks for joining :)

great journal nunu you dont need my help but mind if i sit back and watch the fireworks , feels comfy here in the new light.

your attitude is A+ your grow looks it too your going to reach great heights with your outlook ,jump onto our strain creation thread were making 420s own strain weve picked the male for 1st cross now we need a name ,after this first cross still more to come all picked by all of us voting .

love to hear your opinion .

keep up the great work and the positive knowledge hungry mindset !its great!

Awww very sweet. Will definitely come take a look at the developing 420mag strain. Sounds very interesting, thank you for the invite.

9/1/16 Week 8 Flowering Day 33 - I got a new toy that is going to make deciding when to harvest a billion times easier and better than the 420 Brand 60-100x LED Handheld Microscope I bought ($17) and used my first grow. It's a great little microscope, but honestly trying to decide the right time to harvest with only a few trichomes at a time here and there, is a little bit harder than seeing a ton of trichomes in one shot on your laptop and with the ability to zoom in even further. I got the Zorb Digital 65-85x Microscope found on Amazon if anyone is interested for $45. This thing takes pictures and video of what you're trying to magnify. Awesome!!!!

Now I need help with deciding when is the best time to harvest for a sativa plant. I know sativa's are suppose to be more head affect, more upbeat, productive type of high. So am I to assume that I'm suppose to wait til the trichomes are all just cloudy, without any couchlock Amber trichomes? Because I assume if you're growing a predominantly indica plant you would go very cloudy and amber trichomes to get the actual couch lock affect that Indica's are known. This is the process I'm not really familiar with on how the color levels of trichomes affect Sativa and Indica differently.

Can someone, or a few someones explain with the clear, cloudy and amber trichomes do for each type of plant... Sativas and Indicas to me? Thank you.

Here are some pictures of Plant1 and the second one is a video (which I focus on the close trichomes first, then I focus on the distant trichomes and then I go back and focus on the close trichomes again. This is my first time using the toy, so bear with me, Im sure I'll get better at it as I get more practice.

If you are growing mostly Indica hybrids, it is better to harvest your plants when the resin glands are completely developed but not fully ripen – before they turn amber – unless you want to be glued to your sofa.

If growing mostly Sativa hybrids, make sure that all resin glands are fully developed and 30% of them are amber before harvesting your plants. If you extend the flowering period, you take the risk of decreasing both, the taste and the typicall sativa “high” – stimulant – effect.

When the trichomes are fully developed but still translucent, plants will produce a “high” and stimulanting effect, less sedative. It is the perfect moment to harvest strong Indica strains.

When 70% of trichome heads are milky and 30% amber, it is the perfect time to harvest mostly Sativa hybrids and long flowering strains (like Haze). It is also the best moment to harvest plants for making hashish.
