You can start a journal on your first day. There's no wait for that. The sooner you do, the sooner you'll have 50 posts & be able to enter the contests if you like. You are clicking the wrong thing when you try to start a journal. It says Sub Forum under the Grow Journals Tab. Click that & then Journals in Progress. Then you can start a journal there. It's weird ! I had trouble & many others do too when they first try. Sub Forum Tab should say "New Journals & Journals in Progress to simplify things.
