Hey good morning.....so I assume this is a photoperiod outside? If yes then you would be waiting for the days to get shorter naturally .....aka a few months away...depending where you live.

So if I take this plant and transfer it to indoor under grow light how long would I leave the light on in versus how long in the dark from what I've read is 12 and 12 just kind of need some insight
Yes if you bring it inside and put in dark for 24 hrs to jump start the flowering hormone you should see pistils by end of a week....and then keep on 12 on 12 off until finished.

I'd say she's definitely ready....tall...bushy...un-uniform node building...give her hell :headbanger:

Or would it be better to get a big tarp and make a closet for it outside for 24 hours to shield it from the light my main concern is with it being as hot as it is outside if it will harm it the temp here is 90/ at 7am and has been up to 105 daily

Healthy looking plant you have there.

How tall it is or how old it is will not have an effect on when it starts to flower.

If you are in the northern hemisphere and in the US or Canada in particular and if the plant stays outside it should start to show the first pistils sometime around August 10th to 15th. No matter what the sunrise & sunset times are what is important is the quality of usable light for growing and when that drops to 12 hours then your plant will have 12 hours of dim to darkness and the hormones start to switch over to flowering.

Or would it be better to get a big tarp and make a closet for it outside for 24 hours to shield it from the light...
and from then on it has to get 12 or more hours of darkness. The idea behind the tarp is to give the plant 24 hours of plain darkness to kick start the production of the hormones that cause the flowering. And, once the hormone production starts the plant has to get those 12 hours of darkness every 24 hour cycle. One 24 hour period under the tarp is not enough. And once the 12 hours darkness every night starts it cannot be stopped unless you are ready to watch the plant go back into a vegetating stage.

Marijuana plants can handle mild frost and most early killing frosts. They will die off if the killing frost is strong enough to freeze the roots. Often we will get a mile frost or several of them but in between there will be several days in a row to several weeks of nice weather that lets the plant continue to grow flowers.

Once the flowers start to form plan on 8 weeks later for a harvest that should give the energetic high as some people call it or about 10 weeks for that 'couch-lock' high. Those are minimum; I have seen those 8 and 10 week schedules be extended by 1 to 2 weeks on outdoor plants.
