It has to be more of a PITA to defol inside a tent or closet than outdoors. I like pulling up a chair to my plants and looking over every inch of them. Defol time gives me a chance to check for pests, too. It's just a very therapeutic time for me to sit there and think about nothing else but my plants.

Honestly, it's not that bad. My closet is big enough to probably grow 4 plants without training, but with the canopies trained flat, I can MAYBE fit a 3rd. But if I were to squeeze in a 3rd, I'd have zero room to work. I can currently turn the pots 360 degrees for defol, feeding, and inspection. But I'd love an outdoor grow, it's not fun hitting my head on the damn light hood all the time.

And that brings me to the newest update.

Day 32 of flower.

Power Flower supposedly flowers for 56-63 days.
Cali Jack supposedly flowers for 63-77 days.

We have a long way to go.

I gave them both a healthy defoliation yesterday, and these pics are what's left. It's still not as aggressive defol as I see some growers using, but it seems to be working so far, I haven't noticed any slowed growth, shock, or signs of hermy. I'm going to let them go about 2 weeks, then a final defol.

Looking good man, really good. Why is it that you grow them so small? I know you already explained it somewhere but I'm a stoner and can't remember, enlighten me please. ;-)

LOL Don't blame being a stoner for memory loss. That only works on short term. And a lot of pharmaceuticals can have that same negative side effect.

The plan was just to grow them FLAT, because I'm using CFLs. On my last grow, I had terrible light penetration when I grew the plants normally, and the buds got smaller as they were further from the lights. Height really isn't an issue since I have a closet with a 7ft ceiling, so minus the small table (old TV stand for storage underneath), the pots, light hood, and clothing bar, and current plant height, I have another 36"-48" that they can grow upwards. This is just where they chose to stay I guess.

But in training them flat, it appears that it just takes what would be vertical growth, and turns it into horizontal growth.

You can get a decent 2 foot 4 bulb HO T5 light on Amazon for about $80 USD. I have one of those and also a 4 foot 4 bulb which was about $135 USD. I understand we don't always have dispensable funds but I'm just passing along some grow worthy notes.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I was hoping to upgrade to LEDs next, whether I buy a light, or build my own.

Every grower has preferences. I'm still finding mine. Right now, I know that leaves store energy/food, they are also where photosynthesis takes place. So with that being known, I only removed what was necessary to expose all the budsites to as much light as possible.

In each defol, I ensure that all my main budsites are completely exposed, it might be due to the angle that it appears to be covered, but I assure you, they're all free and clear!

I also try to tuck fan leaves before cutting. And now defol is done until Day 45 of Flower (Thanks to KingJohnC for that info)

The first FIM on power flower was at 5 weeks from sprout, and 4 weeks from sprout on cali jack.

And we have an update today. Pretty simple and straight forward, watered and fed nutes, 12ml grow, 8ml micro, 15ml bloom again, with 1 tbsp of unsulfured molasses.

Pretty easy and painless! Now onto some pictures.

^^^ Don't mind the little LED light, I'm experimenting at the moment. I have 10 of those GU10 LED bulbs, and I wanted to see how well, if at all, they work on growth, and flower production. So I have it hanging right above one of the short lollypop branches to see if there's any burn, growth, etc..

Ok Basic timeline for you and anyone else wondering (and me too lol). I have included a link to each post that documents what happened, some just in text, others with pics.

Planted around May 20.

Around June 24 I started noticing a few tiny preflowers at the main stalk nodes on both plants. Antics Power Flower - Cali Jack FIM Grow

Veg until June 30. I switched to 12/12 during lights on that afternoon, so that was my actual first 12 hour day. Antics Power Flower - Cali Jack FIM Grow

July 14 I noted in my Journal that I found multiple calyxes and pistils appearing on both plants. Antics Power Flower - Cali Jack FIM Grow

So basically I'd say 12-14 days is when they appeared, and I may not have noticed them.

I completely forgot to notice the smell of both plants.

Early on, they both smelled a bit skunky, and really similar, except PF had a slight 'spice' or something to it.

As of today, the smell of the flowers is very different. Cali Jack has a smell like what you'd expect, sweet, but skunky. It's just an intoxicating aroma.

Now Power Flower, is totally different. And I'm still learning about the smells used to describe Cannabis, and I'd say that PF almost smells like diesel. So Mike, or anyone else growing PF, please let me know what your thoughts are when you can smell the mature aroma of Power Flower. Thanks!

I'm not too good with smells of different cannabis either, it either smells good or it don't. It's hard for me to smell a sack that we bought locally and trust that the person selling it to us knows what strain he's selling. My wife on the other hand can probably give good descriptions though, I'll ask her to have a whiff when lights our come on at 8PM CST.

It's hard for me to smell a sack that we bought locally and trust that the person selling it to us knows what strain he's selling. I appreciate it! It's real weird man.. the skunky smell is almost gone, and replaced with this completely new smell. It'd not BAD, but it's just completely new to me and nowhere even close to the typical skunky/citrusy smell you'd expect. I'd swear this is the 'diesel' smell people talk about, but I could be wrong. But now I can't wait to smoke some, thankfully it'll be the first plant that I harvest.

And you might not smell the same thing I'm smelling until you start getting flowers. When my PF was younger I'd get the typical skunky smell when defoliating and such, so everything seemed normal. But she's turning into a completely new monster with the buds producing this new smell. And I'll check tomorrow how the stems and petioles smell, I believe they're still skunky, it's just the flowers that have this new smell. (Lights out is coming in a few minutes, so I won't have enough time to check tonight)

I always had the same problem up here. Except the Cannabis sold here is usually loaded with seeds and stems, and the guy selling it would either refer to it as 'hydro' or 'chronic'. And I bet 90% of them have no clue what hydro or chronic really is. I won't buy from anyone I don't know anymore. There's too many unsavory people out there that just want to make money. And dishonestly at that. I read stories of some people getting Cannabis that was sprayed with hot liquid glass. Yes.. fucking GLASS. Make edibles with that and you could be in serious trouble. All to increase the weight a little more, and make more money.

Greed ruins everything.

I have notice all my plants switch smells when they start budding....I don't really pay much attention to what they smell like during veg but don't get me wrong, I rub and sniff them, clip and sniff or just sniff them every time I am in the grow room. Last year was the first time we bought our own seeds and we will be getting better at identifying the different brands/strains/names. Power Flower is one of our favorite "smellers" so far. We're excited to see what she smells like when buds start forming. We did notice a deep musky smell about PF a few times when we brushed up against it.

I cannot believe they sell weed with glass in it, that's way beyond stupid. We don't hear of chronic around here but then again there is no more "reggie" weed around here, it's all called popcorn now and it really pisses me off every time I hear someone call it that because they charge $100 an ounce for "popcorn". I used to buy them same stuff for $60 an ounce.
We get good hydro that I swear came straight from CO or something but it never has seeds, I couldn't get that lucky haha.

Yeah that deep musky smell you're talking about is probably exactly what I'm describing, or at least trying to describe.

It's really unique, so I'm hoping to learn more about it but I couldn't find much info about it when searching.

And yeah no kidding man, just google 'glass in weed'. And now I'm seeing other people just had crushed glass put in it, and other stories I read mentioned that the buds were sprayed with melted/liquid glass.

Ha.. you thought I actually had chronic here. Everything I was ever able to find here was the same plain bag weed. It was usually harsh, smelled good in the bag and when burned, but not a real good smoking experience. Taste was ok, but the stuff I'm growing as a beginner tastes much, much better. Everything up here I'm pretty sure was just brick weed (or maybe worse?). It was something to smoke, it got you high, and that's about it.

But as the price goes up, it means the demand is increasing. That means more people are smoking Cannabis, and it's one more nail in the coffin to end prohibition completely.

My wife reports that as of 8PM last night, she smells a citrusey and musky smell on top of the normal MJ smell (Greenish). I'm betting it won't smell like that in about 10 days.
