Dr.McNugget's LED Coco/Perlite Medicine Garden

So here's Cleo in action, Right now I have 3 CFL's around the bottom of her as in the pic. The LED just dosen't pack enough punch, even though it says "Penetrator" on it, it penetrates more like a 95 year old man sans Viagra...grr after what I paid, it should do me proper and light my cig for me after.

So I'm tossing around the idea of acquiring a different light setup. At first i was thinking about getting some smaller hps lights (70 or 100W) and using them kinda like im using the CFL's now. I have about 200 doll hairs to spare on this adjustment right now so that def limits me. I'd love to hear some suggestions both those within my budget and out!

High Doc, 200 beans will get you a 400w CMH vertical setup :)

On the right is the Mango that I rooted as a teenager in coco after the aphid epidemic.

Plants are lookin' good, though. Is the penetrator one of Mike's units? GLH, HGL, LED... I get so confused :tokin:

:peace:

I'd hang a bare bulb HPS or CMH - you can get a full 400 HPS setup for $140 delivered from HTG.

Have you tried Hot Shot No Pest Strips? Not sure if they'd work on root bugs... but they knock the hell out of mites.

Your plant looks beautiful and healthy... well done! +reps

Its an HGL 200W. Works great as a cloner/veg light, but the footprint is tiny, so tiny that cleo takes up all of it!

She's stretching much more than I expected, probably due to the bend and being more horizontal in general. Her first (bottom)laterals are looking to come out as main colas, they're actually beating out the top meristem!

So, OB-1, I thought I did my homework on lights. I didn't want HPS for two reasons: heat and inefficiency. Just seemed like a narrow spectrum with a bunch of heat, status as a standard aside and recognized. Checking out this CMH, I'm really into what I just read about the spectrum cover, to me that kind of cover is worth dealing with heat issues, so thanks for the awesome tip! May the Horts be with you!:thanks:

Cool, glad to be of some help. My 400 watt CMH bulb kicks out so little radiant heat that I can hold my hand almost right up to it... though that might not be a good idea with all the other radiation out of that little caged star... it is amazingly bright.

OB, 2 more for you if you can:

1. Can u suggest a ballast? I was reading about digital is a no-no and I didn't see it paired with on in the link site.
2. How would you suggest going about the transition given im already in flower?

"Help me, OB-1-Grownobie, you're our only hope...."

"...for some good-ass rope!" :Rasta:

LOL  I've got to brush up on my Star Wars quotes... ;)

1) I'd get the HTG system, 400 watt HPS w/ mag ballast, and keep the HPS bulb as a spare.

The cheapest way to go, if you already have a mogul socket, would be the ballast for $60 on the advanced tech. lighting site that sells the phillips CMH bulb. Wiring required though... to me, the HTG system is a steal.

2) Now that's a tough one... gradually, whatever you do - I've upped the light in flower with mostly good results, but it will also stress them, and if you have any with female pollen sac tendencies... well, you'll find out.

However, since it's early in flower, you will fill out those lower bud sites that'd end up in the hash pile otherwise.

Thank you General OB-1, do you think one type of HID is more likley to throw nanners? I'm 90% that this was a self seed and although I've only seen girl parts I know that polyploidy could be lurking. I guess I'm asking if I should throw her right under the 'caged star' or warm her up first with the hps? :thanks:

Just a guess - but I think the CMH is less stressful than the HPS... since there's less radiant heat... but I really don't know for sure.

I do have a strain under this CMH that throws naners in sunlight - so we'll see shortly.

My 600 HPS would kick them out for sure... but that was sh**ty bag seed.

Most of my experience in this area is from taking plants in flower out from CFLs and into either HPS or sunlight...

In-ter-san-te, she grew up on sunlight from a window sill and she reached maturity there but was still in veg. Eff it, mistakes teach best right? I'm ordering tonight! Thanks for the help bud!

Hey smokin! Thanks for looking in on us! I know it can do a gram/watt, but its a question of would this plant give me more with more light? I think yes. I was trying to train it scrog style without the screen cause i didn't top, she's all natural.
That is a picture perfect plant! I'd rep you again if I could. :yummy:
That's a huge compliment coming from you OB, I am truly honored!:woohoo:
man she looks hella good.... wow..... im pretty amazed... lol.... :goof:
Me too funny, me too!

Hey all! been busy lately sorry for the lack of update. Everything WAS going great. I got my 400W CMH bulb, but other financial concerns prevented me from acquiring the ballast. She was doing well until a few days ago after a straight water feeding(partial flush). She started yellowing and at first I thought it was a deficiency but the last two days have been really aggressive with the yellowing and dropping off. So I suspected the root aphids, and after pulling her out and looking, they're like full blown AIDS. I'm going to do a root soak with Ed's Zero tolerance but I'm open to all options. Anyone with a suggestion please don't hesitate to offer it just keep in mind I'm right over 4 weeks (31days).

Join me in the War Room - Operation: Root Aphid I'm officially declaring war on this female brood of malevolent malfeasance!

Suggestions and comments always welcome here just please re-iterate your suggestion in the War Room so that others may benefit from my experience.

Not frosty like I want, no way to tell if its the genes or the aphids...

This is what root aphid damage looks like:

She survived the Zero Tolerance bath from last night. The growth that was showing damage hasn't had it progress, with no new deterioration. Anyone with exp using nematodes or Botinacare I'd love to hear about it!:thanks:

Awesome looking plant good job your gonna have some fat ass buds time she's finished. I would never know she had aphids by the pics. Botinicare is great ferts liquid Karma is a must for your tool box.Keep up the good work :welldone: BC
