First grow and Hello from Ontario, Canada

Hi all. I’ve been doing a lot of reading and finally decided to register.

Just wanted to pop by and start with a hello.

I’ve made more mistakes this season outdoor than I can count on both hands, I’ve moved on to the toes.
It started unexpectedly with last min clones and late, mid June, so I didn’t have all that much time to get them out of the solos.

But I love it, learning learning learning for the next go :)) I treated this as an experiment and am not at all disappointed.
I value the experience far more than whatever happens at harvest this year.

Even with all those poor choices made, the girls are starting to really stack well. Sept 25

Cheers,
SCD

Welcome! Hope you have a great harvest! :hookah:

Hi there Canada friend! Welcome to this wonderful, happy place and congratulations on your current cloning and grow! You will be more than happy you registered :Namaste:

Thanks Nova,

So my story goes like this.

Totally unprepared, clones show up.
Introduce them to the early heat wave we had here early in summer.
Run to local farm supply store for organic soil. Mistake 1. No perlite, nothing. It’s super compact now but i was scared to transplant once they were at 5ft.
Run to local hydro store for some 7 gallon pots. Mistake 2.
They only had one Centre drain hole ‍♂️
I was busy with other things in life and once I realized, tipped them on a 45 angle and gentry drilled a dozen holes on the bottom and all around the sides.

I’m on well water and knew nothing so once they had used up the nutes in the soil, I somehow ended up with HR hard/tap Veg/Bloom powder nutes. (Not sure I would use it again but hasn’t been the main issue either)
Mistake 3. Didn’t pH the water for first 2 months lol. Got myself a pen and some pH down.
Fungus gnats. Yes. Didn’t know about the yellow stickies or potatoes at the time but did get some GG diatomaceous earth and sprinkled in to top layer to ruin the larvae.
Wpm, yep that too. Pressurized spray bottle, some baking soda, dish soap and water. ✅

Thought I’d get creative and defoliate them. May still do that again but not as aggressive and I don’t want to get in trouble on that topic.
Didn’t prune early enough lower branches. Too late now.

Brought them in the garage 3 times with the crazy weather which was helpful but ended losing 2 lower branches a few day’s ago with all the rain. Just too heavy for those lower, weaker branches.

Anyway, that’s this years experiment. Next years should be more enjoyable, rather than putting out fires all time :))

I’m scared to attach photos of the entire plants lmao. I defoliated fan leaves like crazy with a sub par setup.
Don’t want to get in trouble on my first day ;)

Outdoor is my favorite especially since legalization eh! I wish I lived more south so I could benefit from growing regular photo sensitive plants but they don't start flowering till the end of August here.

Looking awesome! Nobody gets in trouble here! We only learn from our mistakes... :hookah:

Thanks for all the welcomes. I’m still getting used to this platform. No idea what tab is what ;)

Here’s a night shot of my smallest scraggly little weirdo from last week.
Even today I don’t have any amber trichomes deep in the buds themselves.
Still hoping for more swelling and some half decent weather for a few more weeks.

I figure when I start to see some on the Calyx’ I should start flushing with just pH’d water and wait for maybe 25% ?

Next grow you'll have a lot more experience and the help of the wonderful growers on this site. I predict you will have a banner grow next time. Best of luck, we all look forward to seeing your next grow as well as the results of this learning grow.

I hope so Nova. If I get a better planned start with containers (thinking mesh smart pots) maybe 1/2 in the ground? ) a good soil combo (some sort of quality organic soil and X % of extra perlite? maybe a few small stones on the bottom to ensure drainage), a proper organic feed? And pH my water early on smh

Thank you SO, I’m a bit shocked given the roots we’re wrapping in a few places where I late drilled some holes. They look like small branches, and that can’t be helping.
This Nute is powder and not organic, I was thinking watch the trichs and when I see some amber deep in the bud, then start just ph’d water to get all that salt and chems out.
I’ve already started black strap molasses to try and sweeten theme up on just water days.
I think if I went full organic, molasses would surely be in there very early on for more reasons than just finish flavour ?

:welcome: Welcome S - I'm just north of Lake Simcoe :ciao: I do an in ground and also a moveable. The outdoor is under glass and the others are in laundry tubs on wheels. I experimenting with one little gal in a 5 gal. bucket - I'm always fighting to keep them small. The moveable gals are in the greenhouse now.
