My First Grow!

For me, indicas tend to reinforce some bad habits that I am trying desperately hard to break. A good strong sativa high makes me active and keeps me healthy. Would you be able to control the stretch with LST or scrog?

Well, I'm going to try. I'm growing a Sativa heavy hybrid (Pure Power Plant) in my current grow that I'm going to try to LST, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I tried growing it once before and the size got so out of control that I couldn't keep up with the bending, etc., and they hermied. But, what the hell, might as well give it another try after a few more grows under my belt... It's looking great so far, but it's still little...

Ha ha - you're on to my way of thinking. Pain relief is nice, but fun is fun, too... had to try it again (plus it works damn pretty well on the pain in its own way).

glad to hear your grow is doing well, great find with the mixing tub (was gonna use one too) sticking with one strain will benefit you more in the long run, as you find out what it likes and doesn't. Your tent should be here today, good luck man, can't wait to see it all assembled with your ladies inside.
:goodluck:

on sativas/indicas, I love em all :cheer: maybe try AK47

Like x-mas morning as you tear the boxes open and prepare to play with the new toys! Bring on the pictures dear sir.

Greetings!!

So, my apologies for not getting some pics up last night. I had taken some of the tent all setup with my old light hood inside, but it looked pathetic. So, I made a late-night run for some electrical tape, and wired in the plug adapter to my ballast. Anyway...

And now for the good stuff.....

My old light hood had a really weird diffusion pattern, as you can see by the plants growth.

The plant up front has a really fat stem! I pulled the Grodan cubes up out of the Hydroton to help them dry out, and man did that ever perk them up. I began watering again today after a 3 day hiatus, as I have learned that these cubes hold alot of water.

Currently feeding with full strength veg nutrients per chart

pH 5.0-6.5

Light on 18/6

So that's where we are at currently. I also received my Phresh filter and ActiveAir fan last night, but I won't be using those until it gets warmer outside. The plants seem to be loving the temps and rh inside the tent with the light on.

Just like christmas morning, THCscientist.

Sweet! Looks great - I bet it was like XMas morning. I've never used rockwool much, but I'm told they really do hold a lot of water - so good thing to get that under control. (I use rapid rooters to start seedlings and then put the rapid rooters directly into hydroton - works great).

Love the new tent my friend!

Thanks xlr8! I definitely love the new tent as well!

I would definitely like to play around with the Hydroton a little bit more. For the new seeds, I will be starting them in my Grodan mini-cubes, and then putting them directly into Hydroton, like you do with the rapid rooters. These big cubes are kind of a hassle when combined with the Hydroton.

One thing, if you haven't started your circulation fan going I would start it softly blowing on your babies, start getting them stalks stronger, not so flimsy. Otherwise, everything looks great

I agree with Ibezphil - would help to have air movement so stems thicken up...

Thanks guys!! I've actually had a fan going on them for several weeks now, it's just usually not in my pictures. But I can definitely get some fan-porn up if you all would like to see!!

motionman, it only seems pretty big right now because all those plants were started from seed. I am guessing that about 50% or more will be male.

We lost Rachel this morning. Had been looking kind of sick for the past several days, and just was not recovering. The stem was not properly forming, so I pulled her.

So my plants are really starting to take off - will get some pics up this weekend sometime. I am trying to decide how long to wait to make the switch to 12-12. I would like to give these plants some more time to veg, but it is becoming increasingly clear to me that they each have very different nutrient/space/height requirements, which will make flowering (and pulling males) very difficult.

Looking good bro. Yeah I'm sure they won't all be female hopefully at least half. Stress tends to set off males so I would not mess with them much. Like everyone says the k.i.s.s. method is the best. Anyway they look pretty good for bagseed. You never know what your going to get with them. Good luck and stay green.

I am expecting a >average number of males this grow. If you look back to the beginning of my journal, my seedlings had some stretching/low temp/rh issues early in their lives, as well as an acute case of lime poisoning due to me not properly preparing the Delta grow blocks. (After viewing Grodan instructional material, I will not be making this stupid mistake again.) But either way, I am going to get some good bud before too long. Not soon enough if you ask me.

Shady-looking bud that is heavy on seed and light on resin. Leafy, loose nugs. Underweight bags. Unreliable and immoral individuals.

This is a short, and by no means comprehensive, list of reasons why you should grow your own. While it may not be for other people on this site (lucky you), buying a sack is *always* a hassle for me, usually taking several hours and leaving me with a strong feeling of disappointment after a bag is finally procured. It seems that distributors are getting younger and stupider by the week, which exposes us MJ enthusiasts to unnecessary risks both professional and legal.

I am so sick of cartel bud.

Amen Brother!! I agree 420%. :amen:

By the way, you may be surprised - I'm going to bet you'll have more than 50% females still. I don't think you've been stressing them so much that you'll lose more than 1/2. Just my 2 cents!
