OldManJJ Grows Again!

OK, so I admit, I SUCK as a blogger, LOL.

Things have been insanely busy for me and I just haven't gotten around to posting. I mean with spring cleanup at my home, landscaping projects at my Daughter and her boyfriends new home, my time has been limited. Of course there also has to be some time for fun like boating and drinking a few beers! In addition, I finally made the necessary modifications to my drum kit so I can play along to music without the whole block having to listen in so I find myself practicing a TON more :theband:.

The ladies are doing just fine. They will get transplanted this weekend before I go out of town for another 2 weeks. I know I said I'd never do another remote grow but, things happen (I also may have only said that to @Jon) . It will only be 2 weeks of veg and I'm confident my daughter will handle things while we are away.

Here are the girls:

As you can see, they have some company in the tent. This year, we started our entire garden inside and we will finally move all but the girls outside this weekend. I am really anxious to see how the garden develops this year as we are using recycled soil from our last few grows for the potting soil. I will also be using up some of the Geoflora nutes in the garden as, based on the results, I am going back to Michigan Mediums soil. It was easy as hell and the yields were far superior.

Finally, the girls got together with their cousins (clones from my brother). So in addition to the 3 pheno's previously mentioned, we have a Chocolope, Norther Lights, Chem Dog and Cotton Candy! Whew, 10 plants, that's going to be some hella trim jail!

Enjoy the porn and I will try and be a better blogger. Don't worry, I won't quit my day job! :Namaste:

Thanks for the tag and the other head's up you shot me today! Now we're talking!!! I see some familiar strains in there, and some awesome genetics. You see what my Ethos Fruity Pebble Cookies are doing, I'm a total convert to Ethos when it comes to photos. Although Barney's Farm rocks too, and you saw how fruitful that Strawberry Lemonade is! Maybe you will get more strawberry than me, I got mostly lemon/citrus. Good luck man, worry not on the blogging, there's plenty of people like me who overpost to pick up the slack for you. Lol. How long before they hit the real lights?

Your day job sounds like a bit more fun than mine...definitely don't quit it!

I'm sure your daughter will do fine with the transplanted babies, so expect some explosive growth when you get back. :thumb:

That balance worked out well until Krissi came back. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Update:

All the girls were transplanted Saturday into Michigan Mediums veg mix. I had to drive over an hour each way in heavy traffic but it was worth it. I just love this soil! Super easy to work with and the results were great, far better than anything I have grown in to date.

The girls are split up between 2 tents and are loving their new digs. I will be leaving them in my daughter's capable hands for 11 days so no updates until I get back. Enjoy the porn!!

Very nice, very clean, great dehumidifier, love it! You heading down this way?

@Jon , yes I am headed down your way. I normally wouldn't this time of year but we have some deliveries coming that require us to be there. No big deal as the weather isn't that great here yet anyway

I'm BAAAAAAAACK! And I still suck as a blogger, LOL.

Things are moving along as expected, everything looks fine. I have a few unruly girls that will need to be tamed a bit to even things out. I'm also not super happy with the clone cuts my brother made (2 on the left of the large tent and the 2 in the smaller tent), but with a little chopping and topping, I think they will be ok. I can't complain, they were FREE, one of my favorite 4 letter words :p .

The girls from seed have all been topped once so far and are getting ready for more. I haven't topped the clones yet but they will this week to try and even the shape out a little better. They are in what I consider veg for around 3 weeks. I will probably veg them another 3 weeks before putting up the SCROG net and flipping them to flower.

Here is some porn for you!

So nice and clean in there! Nice to have confidence in your helpers when you go away, eh?

"man this isn't exactly popular opinion but I'm not exactly new to growing so I could care less if it's popular opinion or not LOL trichrome degradation into Amber color is a result of light intensity. every grower has noticed that the trichromes on the leaves turn Amber long before the trichromes on the buds do. that is because they have been exposed to the light longer. all different growers have all different types of lights and all different spectrums of lights and all different intensities of lights. even two growers with the exact same lights could have them hanging at different heights and therefore their trichromes will turn Amber at different rates. my trichromes never turn Amber because I dim my lights back 50% in the last few weeks before harvest so I can actually achieve 100% milky and zero clear or Amber this way. you could keep intense lights on your buds and wait until all of the trichromes turn Amber and crack the buds open and they will still be milky or clear on the inside. I'll say it again trichrome turning Amber is not an indicator of ripeness it's an indicator of light intensity. just wait until all the hairs on the plant have turned brown top to bottom. if they have all turned brown top to bottom except for the ones at the top and they just keep throwing white hairs then your light is a little too intense for ripening and you should dial it back a bit. at that point though you're ready for harvest either way. the window for optimum potency is way bigger than most growers either realize or care to admit. I promise you if you harvest this now or last week or a week from now you will get high."

Very interesting. I have wondered about this. Tell you what, if it’s true, a LOT of us will have to rethink our trichomes!

My soil guy The Rev has something he does related to this but not exactly the same method. I think he's got a work in progress with it. Here's some of what he's said:
"
Howdy amigo. Yeah, a great question there homeslice. First, let me say that I am still messing with the whole dimming thing big. I have only been doing it for a few runs now, but in that time, I have observed some cool things. I also have only recently learned about that lighting control panel from my buddy Jarrod, over at NextLight. It sounds awesome, and the price seems decent as well.

I actually began dimming my lights at the end of the plants’ day due to high temperatures. So, the next morning when the lights came on, they would still be dimmed until I raised the power levels. This is an awesome countermeasure to high temps. I also noticed a really nice benefit from this move as well regarding terpene expression. My plants (genetics I am highly familiar with) were extra stinky and tasty, by a definitely noticeable amount. The overall elegance/smoothness of the smoke was also kicked up a notch.

The automated control panel will start your plants out dimmed and end them dimmed just like Mother Nature does in the outdoors. I always tend to trust Mother Nature, so this is a no-brainer for me. The panel will also dim the lights if temperatures get too high, a super cool automation indeed. Let me show you how I do the whole (non-automated) dimming thing these days.

Rev’s Dimming Schedule Details

  • My plants flower on a photoperiod of 12/12 (12 hrs. ON/12 hrs. OFF) unless they are landrace sativas.
  • I dim my lights to about 50% power approximately 30 minutes before lights out. When lights come on in the morning, I allow them to remain at 50% for the first 30 minutes.
  • I also use the dimming feature if the ambient temperatures get too high. I also use the 50% power setting for this purpose."
I haven't done any of it.
