All Organic High Brix

No disasters are coming your way....only amazement.

They are all still alive so looks like you are correct :thumb:
The Buddha Tahoe is a weird finicky little plant. The wench will flip her leaves upside down, like she making an obscene gesture, with the slightest provocation but shes just chillin now.

I was hoping that since this was the first application, the stronger stuff would be ok because there was no prior buildup in the soil.
They are still in the small 4inch pots I planted them in and I was planning to put them in bigger ones in a week or so but maybe I'll do that this weekend and skip the tea OR I'll add some OC+ to their existing pots (was planning to wait until I up-potted them) to help the situation.

Thanks again for the help...now that I know the possible consequences I can take steps to prevent it from happening

I'd have to go look through the paperwork that it came with, but I only remember one set of instructions...1/4 cup Soil Life & Activator per gallon of water, and then brew for 24 hours. What did yours say? I did get another package just delivered, I'll have to look through that one.

Just remember the teas are there to deliver microbe reinforcements...some folks are adding guanos, fish fertilizer, etc...most of that isn't needed...in fact, I've seen recipes calling for high phosphorus bat guanos...that stuff will kill off a lot of the microbes you are trying to grow...then they have no soil life, so they start adding more and more stuff into their "teas" to feed the plants. Nature's Own doesn't have anything in it that you'll have to worry about building up in your soil....except microbes! :)

I hate getting too specific in a public forum and I can't PM yet so I'll just say that I've poked around on the company website and I believe that the products I purchased have been reformulated and/or revamped a bit so I think I received old and new instructions. I left it VERY strong...

I'm starting to see yellowing on the bottom leaves, which could be normal until the plants adjust. I believe Vape mentioned some issues with his bonsai mothers when he made the switch??? I'll treat that if it becomes necessary as well as anything else that comes up and proceed VERY carefully over the next week or so.

I agree totally and generally have a "less is more" attitude. I've seen lots of people mess up their grows by being hyper-vigilant and obsessing over every little thing.

:thanks:

When you convert from salt based ferts to organic, the roots have to adjust quite a bit. You often see some sickly things the first week or two. Look to the new growth! Even if the old growth is dying, the new growth should be healthy.

When I grow cuttings from a certain guy every single leaf on the clone when I get it usually dies, because the roots from the aerocloner are radically different than soil roots.

Until the beneficials establish themselves in the roots, the plant tends to starve without all that fast food around. But the fast food won't make them as healthy as the High Brix.

Be patient. This stuff works. I promise.

You do have a stable environment, right?

For the most part yes. My temps are a bit higher than I would like...
generally around 84 with lights on but sometimes peaking as high as 88 with lows in the mid-high 60s with lights off.
I was considering some changes to my lighting patterns...possibly GLR or changing the time of day I have lights on...but I don't want to stress the plants anymore right now. I could raise the lights a bit or turn on the AC in my house if you think it's necessary???

Everything else is very good...airflow, humidity, etc.

Yellowing on the bottom is a bit worse but there does seem to be quite a bit of new growth so still just taking a wait and see approach and not overly concerned.

I used (and will continue to use) the products on my container veggie garden outside as well so it will be interesting to watch everything unfold. I'll start keeping track of what I'm doing and what the results are for the best practices thread...sorry that I didn't get stats (plant height, etc) before starting the program.

High temps in the 80's without C02 is going to effect yield and quality. You'll still get decent product, but you'll have a lower calyx to leaf ratio (leafy buds).

I'd turn on the AC if you can....try to keep high temps in the high 70's.

If you must get into the 80's....C02 is the only way to go....but you need powerful lighting 'cuz the plants get big.

High Brix will also help the plants deal with the temps.....but there is no substitute for a "perfect" environment. I consult on a couple med grows who want their produce to be better and in both cases they have spent money on everything except the environmental controls......500 bucks on House and Garden nutes......and Home de Pot has window AC's for 150 bucks!

Environment is more important than high brix. Environment, environment, environment!.

I'll be shutting down this journal pretty soon. I'll take pics a couple times more....but I'm a bit depressed by the plants.

I've just transplanted some Strawberry Cough and Pineapple express...pic below. I'll start a new journal to follow those and my further adventures in the world of high brix.

Done...
Pulled them out today & took a good look.
Also started a more formal method of measuring, data collection, note taking, etc...that should help me figure out whats up.
I'm going to spend some time going back over your grows as well as some others using this method over the next couple of days.

All in all feel good about the prospects

:thanks:

Looking good! Pineapple Express is an interesting plant!
Strawberry Cough is better tasting smoke IMO. Never grew that though, just smoked it ;).

Your 2nd response to Ms.Me.. Posts like that are what always have me coming back to your thread!
Thanks for the info, always something to learn in the Doc's thread.

Hey Doc, plants are looking amazing!! Can't wait to see your next journal and adventures into High Brix!! I noticed you mentioned you weren't quite happy with the results of this grow, may I ask why and what you would have done differently?

I made 2 big mistakes and had 2 environmental disasters that messed this grow up a bit.

Mistakes:

1.)topped too late. I cut off the apical meristem and blew out all the flowering hormones....stressed plants.
2.)too small of containers....ERG's to zero, minerals decreased.

Disasters:
1.)Duct blew off lights, temps got really high overnight , with hot air blowing right on the plants!
2.)Had someone watch the garden while I was away and due to a medical issue, they weren't able to water for 4 days....came home to some plants that looked like a wilted broomstick.

Considering that, they look great! However, I had plans for jaw-dropping, pornographic, awe-inducing buds....all I got is what you see.

The Lemon Thai looks good. The Blue Dream isn't too dreamy....the Purple Jack is interesting. I harvested it yesterday. I'll get some good buds, probably smoke well....but not quite up to my standards.

Lessons learned:

1.)large containers
2.)check and tighten clamps every time I think of it.

I'm mentally designing an irrigation system so I can be away for a week if needed. Larger pots would have averted the last disaster, however.

Hey Doc, did you ever get a chance to take any brix readings from your plants? I just took a few samples and I am hitting 15-20+ brix on my ladies!!! :)

I have just one word for you Mr. DocBud............ FANTASTIC! I will be following your journals as many others but this one looks fantastic. I will read this one from beginning to end several times just not to miss anything. I hope my first grow is 1/2 as good as what I'm seeing here in this journal.

:peace:

Doc I will be sad to see this journal end but happy to see another begin.
I have found a product I think you will be very interested in it's called high octane fertiliser it contains all the rock minerals needed to provided food for the plants such as azomite ect. and the microbes too help all ready to mix into soil.
I have orded sone just waiting for delivery. I think this product could be the final part to complete this puzzle
Worth a look IMO
Thanks for all the help you have provided to me and others through out this journal.
Smooth

Thanks for the tip! I just spent about 45 minutes on their website. Good stuff, exactly what we're doing here. It looks like a nice product!
