Greenlizard's First Grow: Purple Kush & Hash Plant, October 2018

Thanks guys for the assurance. I will be repoting them tomorrow into 7 gallon pots. Also they will be going in the tent with the 315 Watt ceramic. Im a bit worried about keeping the night time temps up. Would high 60's be good enough?

Hello. Fellow salt water aquarium owner here. I used to do more with corals but it got expensive and I don't have the time that for it that I once did so I have left is some LPS and fish/invertebrates. There are some similarities from saltwater to growing cannabis the most important being light and environment.

I agree with the advice that has been given. Up pot and get them under the CMH as soon as you can. I veg under the same lights I use for flower. I use LED's though. In veg you want rapid growth above and below the medium. Roots are probably the most important part of the plant. The bigger pots will help with that. upper 60's are not an issue for the plants. My tent is 68 all night when the lights are out.

I don't have much to offer in terms of advice for soil as a meduim as I have always been a hydro grower but other aspects of growing are similar. My advice would be look into defoliation and LST. You will need some skills in those areas to get the maximum that you can out of each plant.

Nice to see a fellow SW guy. I've been doing LST now for a few weeks. Just untied them in order to transplant. I will continue with the LST. I gotta bite the bullet on the defoliation. Scared to take too much.

WOW! That's a lot like work!
The girls have all been transplanted into 7 gallon pots.
I also had to finish setting up my tent.
I put two layers of dense foam board on the floor so the cool concrete doesn't chill the roots.
Also I had to hook up my ventalation.

Looking at your roots you were due for an up pot. Being new at this you will be shocked at the growth rate that they can put out above and below the soil.

Give them a couple of days to get used to the increased space in the pots and being under the new light they should take off.

Did you use any mycorrhizae on the root balls when transplanting?

Thanks. No I didn't use mycorrhizae. Too late now I guess? I gave a full feeding right after transplant and added some super thrive. When using Mycorrhizae I have to also start adding molasses to feed the Mycorrhizae right?

Well the girls are settling in well. Noticed new growth already under the CMH.

Laugh if you want but I ordered one of those cheap, crappy, LED lights off WISH from China a couple months ago for $42 shipping included.
Thinking it might be good for clones. It's not bright enough to grow much of anything but to keep a small mother in veg or clones or something maybe.

What was the advertised wattage? My Visparspectras combined were advertised at 1050 watts (300+300+450) but really only pull 442 watts. But my QB's are being powered by a 240 watt Meanwell in a 2x4 tent and penetrate much better; it's QB for flowering and the Vipars for veg in a 2x3.

Here are the "so called" specs of this light:
120 Watt
1365 Leds
1131 Red & 234 Blue
Epistar
Rated for a 3' x 3' area (LOL)
Light Spectrum - Red: 630-660nm / Blue: 430-460nm

Well I did a little defoliating last night when I did a feeding to the girls. They had been grown so low and bushy that a lot of leaves were touching the soil and really getting in the way when watering / feeding. I pruned a small grocery bag full of leaves from them and they are much more manageable now. I have been noticing lots of new growth as well. I stopped training them for now because I want to get some more height to them. Debating on doing a SCROG at this point. It will give me a more even canopy and perhaps more yield so I think I will install the net this upcoming weekend if they are tall enough.

Also I tossed 3 seeds in water last night to start the next batch. I am using Canuk seeds this time. Only concern I have so far is that one of the Bubba Kush seeds is already cracked open inside the tiny storage vile. As soon as I received these seeds in the mail I immediately stored them in my refrigerator so temp or exposure should not be an issue on my behalf. The package contains 3 seeds in the vile. All other seeds look fine. I didn't use the cracked seed. I wonder if it would still be good?

I am popping one Bubba Kush, one White Widow, and one Train Wreck. I will clone from my existing plants for the rest and grow out what ever plants gave the best harvest from the first grow. I soaked them overnight and planted the cracked seeds in Jiffy pucks that were placed inside a small humidity dome. The humidity dome is on a heating mat. This method worked 100% for me last time so will see how it goes this time. The Train Wreck seed didn't crack in the water but I had a seed that did this last grow that popped just fine once it was planted into the Jiffy puck.

Update:
The plants are growing well in my opinion. I think I will install the scrog net and do a feeding tomorrow. I noticed the plants grew closer to the light so I raised it up to 22". It was at 18".

Looks like they are loving the higher power light. It might be time to start looking at trimming them up so the lower branches and nodes get more light.

Thanks.
I was hoping for someone to chime in regarding defoliation. I'm nervous to do too much. Any advice is appreciated.

"My concern is that my older Purple Kush is about two weeks ahead of these new seedlings. Can I play catch up within the vegetating stage so that I can have them all go into the tent for flowering at the same time? I would expect the one plant will be larger than the others but other than that will there be any other issues with having plants with a few weeks between age? "

No issues except maybe for overall height. You can play catch-up if you want, for example you can veg the younger ones for a week under the big light just before flowering or you could keep the younger ones under 24h light and the bigger one under 18h until they catch up. If you had the intention of topping/pruning your plants then you will control the size that way.

I really like the purple Kush, one of my favs
Look into ethylene gas and cannabis ripening.
