SuperLocker DWC Grow - 2 BF Critical Kush & 2 RQS Amnesia Haze - 28 Days in Flower

February 17th, 2015 - 12 Weeks, 4 Days from Seed

28 Days in Flower

Reservoir Change Today. Same mix as last week. Total PPM ended up at 1120 PPM which includes the usual 260 PPM CalMag (5ml/gal.) and 140 PPM Mg (Epsom Salts) so nute strength is at 720 PPM.

Current Reservoir has per gallon: 2ml Hydroguard, 5ml CalMag, 5ml Liquid Seaweed, 2ml VitaBlue, 6ml Micro, 8ml Bloom, 4ml Grow, 1ml Early Bloomer, and 4ml Liquid Blue. N-P-K ratio is 0.8-1.0-1.7. Final Ph was 6.0.

After changing the water, final reservoir numbers were: 1170 PPM and 6.0 Ph.

MOST CURRENT STATS (*Lights On at 3:30am)
Closet Temp: 68.4F Humidity: 59.0% Water Temp: 67.1F Water PH: 6.0 Water PPM: 1170

Everything looks very good. Girls were thirsty especially the last 2 or 3 days. I added at least a .5 gal per day this week and more than that the last 2 or 3 days. Nute PPM's rose a bit this week so I added plain RO water instead of nutrient solution for 1 top off this week. Ph didn't fall as far this week. I adjusted 1 time and then it stayed at around 5.7 - 5.8 all week.

The Amnesia Haze Sativa stretched this week (about a week or 2 after the Indica) and are looking really nice. The Critical Kush Indica is filling in nicely and the leaves are getting frosty, nice little snow caps. I decided not to let the taller buds grow around the lights. Instead I'm training them around the wall of the cabinet, kinda like a vine. I think they'll do better this way. Some picture updates below.

BELOW: A few of the branches were getting too tall and beginning to grow around my light. I decided to use zip-tie's to train these branches around the wall of the cabinet. I tied down 2 on the right and 1 on the left side.

12 Week Update

I planted seeds on November 19th so today is exactly 12 weeks from seed. I'm 32 days into flower. Still figuring out how these grow and figuring out the -----------. I'm almost positive I can turn these faster next time with similar results. I have at least a foot of lollipopped stem at the bottom of these plants that is just dead space. If I started again I would probably SCROG them out and turn them a week or even 2 earlier.

Added a couple new tools this week. I made myself a nice drying cabinet that I will eventually hook in to my existing filtered exhaust system. The cabinet could double as a germination and veg cabinet as well. The inside diameter is 33"W X 18"D X 36"H so is decent sized. It's tall enough to hang the plants and I also added a screen shelf at the bottom for drying sugar leaf and other cuttings. I'll send some photos with the weekly reservoir change update on Sunday.

The other tool I added is a microscope attachment for my cell phone ($13 on Amazon). It's a pretty cool little device. It simply replaces the cell phone cover and has a little microscope that screws into the back of the new cover. It is adjustable from 60X to 100X magnification, just like the 420Scope, and you can still zoom in and zoom out with your phone lens and can take pictures. I took the pictures below last night when the lights were on. Its not easy to get a good view and hard to hold the phone still enough to get a good shot, but I got a couple decent ones. They are posted below.

BELOW: Some pictures of the developing trichomes. They haven't quite swelled and mushroomed yet. The pictures are cloudy but the trichomes are still clear. 32 Days into Flower.

System Change - New Drying Cabinet

Some pictures of the new drying cabinet below. It was a fun little project. The inside dimensions are 33"Wide X 18"Deep X 36"Height. Used 1/2" MDF and lined the inside with Orca Paper, just stapled the paper to the walls of the cabinet so it's easy to remove if needed. I was going to do the traditional dowel and hangers but it would have wasted too much space. Instead I screwed eye hooks into the ceiling of the cabinet and then hung tarp tie downs from them. I made a custom sized screen for the bottom to dry leaves and other cuttings, it slides out easily. I used cafeteria style food trays at the bottom to catch all the keif and leaves and such. Also hung a small fan and a Thermometer/Hygrometer inside. Finally, made a T-connection on the existing filtered exhaust system and hooked the drying cabinet up to it. It should create a nice vacuum inside the cabinet and pull all the smell out the back and through the filter, that's my hope anyway. I should be 4 weeks or so from harvest!

BELOW: Outside shot of the new drying cabinet. Used large sturdy hinges to support the large door. Lined the opening with weatherstripping to keep the light out and to keep the smells in.

February 22th, 2015 - 13 Weeks, 4 Days from Seed

35 Days in Flower

Reservoir Change Today. Same mix as last week. Total PPM ended up at 1110 PPM which includes the usual 260 PPM CalMag (5ml/gal.) and 140 PPM Mg (Epsom Salts) so nute strength is at 710 PPM.

Current Reservoir has per gallon: 2ml Hydroguard, 5ml CalMag, 5ml Liquid Seaweed, 2ml VitaBlue, 6ml Micro, 8ml Bloom, 4ml Grow, 1ml Early Bloomer, and 4ml Liquid Blue. N-P-K ratio is 0.8-1.0-1.7. Final (adjusted) Ph was 5.7.

Since the nute concentration has been rising and seems to be rising more each week, I decided to do a 24 hr. flush with 2ml / gal. Clearex. Even when adding zero PPM solution to the res, it still showed 290 PPM. I guess from residual nutrients left that I cannot drain completely.

After 24 hr. flush, I drained again and added the normal nutrient solution. Final reservoir numbers were: 950 PPM and (adjusted) Ph of 5.8. Interesting that the nute concentration was actually lower than the nute solution I added back in. That means the remaining solution I could not drain deluted the new nutrient solution. That's fine, it will creep up as I top off with fresh solution throughout the week. Overall, it was good to flush out all the older higher concentration solution that cannot be drained completely with the weekly reservoir change. I'm hoping the PPM's will be more stable now for the last 3 or 4 weeks of flower for the Indica.

March 1st, 2015 - 14 Weeks, 4 Days from Seed

42 Days in Flower

Reservoir Change Today. Changed things up slightly this week. I dropped the Epsom Salt for extra magnesium, I want to make sure it's flushed before harvest.

Current Reservoir has per gallon: 2ml Hydroguard, 5ml CalMag, 5ml Liquid Seaweed, 2ml VitaBlue, 6ml Micro, 8ml Bloom, 4ml Grow, 1ml Early Bloomer, and 4ml Liquid Blue. N-P-K ratio is 0.8-1.0-1.7.
Final PPM was 1010 and final Ph (adjusted) was 5.8.

Plants are really filling in this week and getting sticky. They smell really nice, sweet. PPM's went up throughout the week again and they were drinking 2-3 quarts. I did a mini flush with the res change. Drained then refilled with 5.8 Ph plain RO and ran the drips for an hour. Then drained and refilled again with plain Ph'd RO. When I finally refilled with this weeks nutrient solution it ended up deluted in strength so I got most of the residual stuff out. Final Reservoir Stats were 780PPM 5.8Ph

Sunday was 42 days in Flower. Probably about 2 weeks left until Harvest of the Critical Kush!

MOST CURRENT STATS (*Lights On at 9pm on Monday Mar 2nd)

Flower Day 46

The trichomes on the Critical Kush are getting pretty cloudy and I see a couple Amber. They are drinking a ton this week. They are supposed to go to Day 55-60 of Flower. I want to wait as long as possible before flushing and want to do a short 3-5 day flush so I don't affect the Amnesia Haze (Sativa) that need probably 2-3 more weeks.

What do you guys think? Are these going to make it to Day 55?

Nice looking buds, but things look a little tight in there. Do you think that you might grow fewer plants next time to allow more space?

Yes! You're right Sprite. I am about to post a Sunday update and will mention something about this. Next time I think I'm going with 2 plants. I plan to scrog them and turn them much quicker next time. I already have some premo seeds that should fill the screen pretty well.

March 10th, 2015 - 15 Weeks, 6 Days from Seed

51 Days in Flower

No Rez change this week. I'm going to flush the larger Indica plant soon so decided not to do a rez change this week. Instead I've been adding plain Ph'd RO water, Slowly deluting the nutrient solution over the last couple days.

I have one Indica that is really big and is really close to harvest. The other one isn't close to being ready. I messed more with the one in front plus it just didn't have as much exposure to the light. It was overshadowed by the larger plant. The larger one is going to have some serious weight. The one in front isn't going to have much unless I let it go longer. So... my plan is.

Current Day is Flower Day 51

Estimated Flower Times:
Critical Kush (Indica) 55-60 days
Amnesia Haze (Sativa) 10-11 weeks or 70-77 days

This Week:
1. Continue adding plain RO and deluting the solution each day until I get to zero PPM. This will probably take 2-3 more days which should be about day 53-54.
2. Add 2ml Clearex and flush until the larger ripe Indica has about 30%-40% Amber trichomes. Add another 4-6 Days so gets me to about Day 57 to Day 60?
3. Harvest the larger ripe Indica.
4. Put the Rez back on full nutrients and wait for the other plants to finish.

I think once the other Indica has some light it will finish fine and might even finish around the same time as the Sativa. It should help the Sativa's finish better as well by giving them more light.

I'll probably update mid-week this week. Can't wait to harvest the larger Indica, it's looking really nice. Getting excited.

Sprite is correct in the post above. I think I can do well with just 2 plants next time around without losing too much weight. I have some Sensi Seeds NL5 X Haze that should do really well and only take a few weeks to veg. I know they stretch a ton in flower but if I scrog them out and turn them quicker this time I think I can do better. Still learning and will surely make more mistakes along the way. It's a fun little hobby though and I look forward to saving money on meds.

Have a great week!

Harvest Day for the Indica!

Today is a full 7 days of flush. The indica didn't have too many amber trichomes but it was almost 100% cloudy, the hairs had pretty much all turned color, and I didn't want to keep the Sativa off nutes any longer so I cut down the Indica today. The first plant was pretty much a total loss. I think I might have done some HST instead of LST on it plus it just didn't have enough room to catch the light it needed and the other Indica overshadowed it. The second Indica did really well. My guess is maybe 3+ ounces of good dried bud plus some stuff for the hash pile. I don't know, maybe more? There are some decent sized buds and they are pretty dense already. I don't have a scale but may pick up a cheap one so I can compare harvests... and make sure I stay under my legal medical limits.

A log of the process is below.

1. On 5th day of Flush I removed the fan leaves and all the lower immature shoots and popcorn buds.
2. Harvested Buds on 7th day of flush.
3. Washed Buds. Used a hybrid of DocBuds bud washing technique. Used a 5-gallon bucket of RO with 1 cup Lemon Juice and 1-cup Baking Soda for wash. Used a second 5-gallon bucket with plain RO water for rinse.
4. Hung buds to dry in cabinet.

Comments:
1. I tossed the fan leaves and most of the lower immature stuff but kept the lower immature popcorn buds for the hash pile. I did this a couple days ago and have been drying it so I tried a little bit last night. I was shocked at how sticky it was and at how smooth it was. I thought this immature stuff would be crap and harsh but it smoked really nice and tasted good... and it worked! I can't wait to try the good stuff.

2. I really like the bud washing technique. Once you see all the crap that gets collected in the wash water you will never harvest buds without washing ever again. I used organic nutes, did not spray anything, and am in a fairly controlled environment and still got a bunch of crap in the wash water.

3. The leaf to bud ratio on this Critical Kush seems really good (see pic below). Trimming should not be too bad. Most are really nice dense buds too.

4. The sativa are actually farther along than I thought. Most of the hairs are turned, the trichomes are about 50% to 60% cloudy and there are a few amber. I put them back on full nutrients and will let them go until I see more amber before I harvest.

Some pictures below of the drying buds so you can get a feel for the quantity. Pretty much all of what you see is from the 1 Critical Kush (Indica). 100% of what is hanging and most of the stuff on the lower screen is off the same plant. By the way, the pic is a bit blurry but there is more on the lower screen than just popcorn bud and sugar shake. There are some nice buds on the drying screen below. Even though the one plant was almost a 100% loss I'm pretty happy with the quantity I ended up with from the Indica.

BELOW: Critical Kush Indica Harvest. Everything hanging and most of what is on the screen at the bottom is from the same plant.

March 24th, 2015 - 16 Weeks, 5 Days from Seed

64 Days in Flower

Rez update. Sativa is back on full nutrients. Current Reservoir has per gallon: 2ml Hydroguard, 5ml CalMag, 5ml Liquid Seaweed, 2ml VitaBlue, 6ml Micro, 8ml Bloom, 4ml Grow, 1ml Early Bloomer, and 4ml Liquid Blue. N-P-K ratio is 0.8-1.0-1.7.

AMNESIA HAZE UPDATE
Sativa has about 10% to 20% Amber and there are still some clear trichomes. The top hairs are turned but still a bit pale. Amnesia Haze needs a bit more time. I really didn't do much with these, I topped them 1 time and tried to train them but they were at the back of the cabinet so didn't get much love. Looks like I'll have 2 or 3 main stalks on each plant and the main colas are fairly large (5" or 6") and dense. Smells great!

CRITICAL KUSH UPDATE
I did the final trim on the Critical Kush. Still have the largest stems / colas hanging in the drying cabinet. Conditions in the cabinet have been ideal. Hovering around 50% RH and around 65 to 70 degrees. Better yet, no smell! That drying cabinet is a huge DIY build win. The stems on the hanging buds are still flexible, they don't snap, after 5 days in the drying cabinet but they are getting closer.
Have sampled some of the lower immature popcorn buds and it's nice. Sticky, smooth, and works! :smokin:

April 2nd, 2015 - 18 Weeks from Seed

73 Days in Flower

Critical Kush Update: Critical Kush is all in jars (at 65RH in the jar) curing. Ended up with about 1.5 oz of good stuff, another 1/4 of joint rolling stuff, and almost an oz of shake for bubble hash.

Amnesia Haze Update: Started the flush on the Amnesia Haze a couple days ago. Tapered down the nutes like I did with the Kush, at zero PPM now. I'll probably cut these on Sunday which is day 76... and it's Easter!

I'll be starting a new project in the next day or so and will be creating a new post for this. So stay tuned for my...

Sensi Seeds NL5 X Haze - Inside DWC SCROG Grow

Can I still call it a SCROG if I use 2 plants or is this technically a SOG even though its just 2 plants? I think SCROG is 1 plant and SOG is multiple?

Anyway, I'll post some pics of the Easter Nuggets on Sunday! It's lookin tasty!

Amnesia Haze Update - Day 77 of Flower, 6th Day of Flush. Was going to harvest yesterday but it's just not quite ready. One set of buds still has white hairs, most turned dark a couple weeks ago. I think this might be a newer growth spurt that happened when I put the Sativa back on nutes (after flushing the Indica). Overall I'm at about 20%-30% amber so it hasn't gone too far. I'm going to wait another day or two, keep a close eye on the trichomes so I don't go too far, and hope the last group ripens a bit more.

Sensi Seeds NL5 X Haze Update - Planted seeds for the new batch last Friday and both have popped today (Monday). I've had 100% germination success so far with my first 2 grows. Timing is perfect. I'll throw these in the closet as soon as I harvest the Amnesia Haze.

Critical Kush Review - Buds have been curing for about a week now. Still has a grassy smell so has more chlorophyll to burn. Staying at a constant 65 RH in the jars. Pulled out a couple buds to try at Easter. Even though it needs more time to cure, it smokes nice. Not sure if it's the bud washing or the strain, but its really smooth smoke. Rolled a joint, smoked nice, left a nice grey ash. It's not a strong taste at all, I think it gives a hint of chocolate. Others said they got cotton mouth but I didn't get that effect. It doesn't seem to last long for me. Either it's my tolerance or I could have let it go a bit longer. I'll wait for it to cure a few more weeks before making a final review.

Amnesia Haze Harvest Day!

Harvested the Amnesia Haze at Day 78 of Flower. The hairs on that last set of flowers finally turned so I decided to harvest. I would like to let them cook for another few days but I turned off the LED and the top flowers are a bit crunchy on the top. I didn't want to leave them any longer that close to the lights.

These Haze flowers are much bigger than the Indica flowers and much much fatter. They also have a ton more sugar leaf so final trim is going to be challenging. Have the branches hanging in my drying cabinet, averaging about 65-70 degrees and aprox 50% RH. Pretty much ideal numbers. I used a variation of DocBuds bud drying technique again with great results. Only change from last time is that I added a second rinse bucket. The first rinse bucket still gets quite a bit of crap in it so I wanted to have one final really clean rinse. I used:

1. Wash Bucket - 5 gallon bucket with 1/2cup baking soda and 1/2 cup lemon juice. Hot water from tap.
2. First Rinse - Normal temp water from tap.
3. Second (final) Rinse - Normal temp water from tap.

Some pictures below of the Amnesia Haze harvest. Can't wait to try this stuff. Very pungent and sticky, smells like lemon pepper. The largest flowers are really wide and fairly long, largest are maybe 5" long and about 3" wide. They are really fat. I'll send more pics after final trim.

Final Trim Amnesia Haze

Amnesia Haze Update: The Amnesia Haze dried pretty quickly unfortunately. The drying cabinet has been between 65 & 70 degrees and the RH has been hovering right around 50% but the flowers are drying out quickly. I didn't even have the fan on inside the cabinet. Did the final trim over the weekend and have the flowers in jars. I thought the trim would be difficult but I caught it right and it was actually pretty quick. The leaves were dry so could pretty much be pulled off with the scissors instead of cut. The flowers were still a bit wet so they didn't crumble or fall apart. Based on the volume of the semi wet flowers it looks like I'll get just over 2 oz. of good bud from the Amnesia haze plus about an oz. of shake for the bubble hash pile. Some pictures below of the final trim.

Critical Kush Update: Buds are curing in jars at a constant 65RH. I only open the jars every couple days now and the RH is staying constant.

I'll probably post one last time in a few more weeks, after the Amnesia Haze has had a chance to cure, then close out the thread. I started a new thread for my next grow, you can access this by clicking the link in my signature below. Not much happening there yet. Still in seedling stage although they have roots and are growing quickly.

Final Thread Posting – Strain Reviews

Critical Kush Review

Yield
Target is about 600g/m2. My total grow space was .25 sq. meters (15” X 24”) and the Critical Kush was half the space so target yield for may space was about 75g. Actual yield was 42 g’s of top shelf bud, well below target yield. I attribute this to my own inexperience and the fact that the second plant was a complete bust. They would have done better in a SCROG. I ended up with 2 colas higher than my lights but had an entire plant that never had enough light to fully develop. This strain is robust and pretty resilient considering my mistakes. Responded well to topping and the one plant did really well despite my HST (heavy stress training). I’m positive I can do better in the same space with the same lighting using a SCROG method.

Buds and Smoke
I wish I had been able to get a better yield from this because I really like the smoke. The flower-to-leaf ratio was really good, trimming was a breeze. Produced a ton of sticky trichromes during flower. Buds have been curing for almost 3 weeks. Nice looking buds, could be a bit more dense. Pulls away from the stems easily without crumbling. Ends up nice and fluffy in the grinder. Smokes nicely in a joint and produces a clean grey ash. The smell is spicy although not that pungent. They did have a fairly strong grassy chlorophyll smell while drying but this is completely gone after 3 weeks in jars. Taste is surprisingly smooth. Even the leafy popcorn buds (which I didn’t count in the yield numbers above, maybe 5-7 g’s worth) are a smooth smoke. I used DocBuds bud washing technique and am convinced this contributed to the smooth smoke. The high is very relaxing. Great for an after dinner smoke or for watching a movie. One downside, there’s not much smell. It would be nice if they were a bit more pungent. The smell is nice, just faint. This is probably an issue with the grow and not the strain. I ran out of room and so the buds got very close to the lights. I might have burned some terpenes? Keep the chips and cookies locked up, this bud gives you the munchies big time. Med Value: IMO good for stress, anxiety and appetite. Very relaxing. A couple friends also reported cotton mouth after hitting this.

Flower: 59 Days
Rate the Strain: 3.8 out of 5 Resilient plant. Smooth, nice tasting smoke
Rate the Grower: 2.0 out of 5 Nice buds but low yield and lost 1 plant. Lots of little mistakes along the way

Amnesia Haze Review

Yield
Target is about 600g/m2. My total grow space was .25 sq. meters (15” X 24”) and the Amnesia Haze was half the space so target yield for my space was about 75g. Actual yield was 63g’s of top shelf bud. Not a bad yield but I can’t take much credit. The Haze was at the back of the grow cabinet and didn’t actually get much love from me as far as training and such. The Haze responded nicely to topping and would do fine in a SCROG. Another robust and resilient strain considering my mistakes. It was more sensitive to nutrient deficiencies than the Kush. The Haze had a bunch of issues early-on with Mg and other deficiencies. My mistakes but this strain was more sensitive to the deficiency: responded sooner and more extreme compared to the Kush.

Buds and Smoke
Very nice looking nuggets, not large but nice looking. Had some size consistency issues with these colas, my own doing, so a few of the buds are darker than the others (closer to the light). I was worried about the trim when I chopped these because they seemed to have a ton of leaves, but the trimming was easy. The leaves shrank quite a bit after a couple days hanging in the drying cabinet. In this case I think it was easier to trim after some initial drying. Love the smell. Even right after harvest and all through drying these had no grassy chlorophyll smell. They have a nice lemon slightly peppery smell to them. I think these could be more pungent, too close to lights and may have burned some terpenes. Buds have been curing in jars for a week. Smoke is smooth even after just 1 week curing. The buzz is pretty strong but this is not for sleepy time. It’ not jittery, just stony and energetic. I must have harvested at the right time, I really like the high this gives. A few more weeks curing and this is going to be really nice. This is for Saturday morning wake-and-bake then get shit done and for smoking with friends. This is no couch lock conversation stopper. I’m partial to Sativa already and after just a few tries of some barely cured buds of this Amnesia Haze, I know this will be a favorite. Early sensitivity to the nutes which stretched out the Veg plus a 78 day flower made this a long grow. I want to try this one again soon. With a little more love this time, I know I can do better on both yield and quality. Med Value: Energizing/Uplifting. In my opinion would be good for depression and/or pain.

Flower: 78 Days
Rate the Strain: 4.5 out of 5 Awesome smoke: smooth, tasty and energetic. Takes a long time.
Rate the Grower: 3.0 out of 5 Nice buds but yield could be better. Lots of little mistakes along the way made this a long grow.

Thanks to everyone that followed and for all the advice and likes along the way. Special thanks to King JC for checking in on my meager little grow. Appreciate the advice. Thanks also to Stealthgrow and cSprite for their advice. Have to also give some love to DocBud for his thinking-outside-the-box bud washing method.

Please stay tuned for some updates on my next grow. The link is in my signature below. I have an exciting new DIY Flower Cabinet that’s almost complete that will more than double my available grow area. I’ll be posting updates there soon.

Closing this post. Out for now.
