Dabbling in the dark arts for a friend

Hello everyone,

I am a veteran testing the waters to see if I can bring some white widow to harvest from seed for a friend who definitely isn't me. I can't promise anything other than integrity and hopefully a harvest. I appreciate all advice or simply friendly banter.

I wouldn't say that I am an advocate for medical cannabis, but in my particular experience it does bring some temporary relief to PTSD, and helps smooth out rough days. That being said, it should be allowed for recreational use by responsible and slightly irresponsible people. I particularly like to enjoy the early morning hours to myself, by smoking a little, throwing on some headphones, and either doing research or playing some grand strategy games on my computer. I find that I look at situations different and come to a different conclusion than I would sober. The majority of the time the result is a more refined, non rushed conclusion.

Now, I've dabbled with cannabis as a teen and it always held a special place in my heart. Some of my fondest memories are experiencing it with friends, lovers, and family.

My current motivation for growing, is simply seeing the process through and attempting to nurture life. I own a basic setup consisting of two LEDs one 100w and one 450w, a 4x4 tent, and a homemade DWC setup. My nutrients are designed for such applications, and I choose a Dutch brand without a ton of additives. Mainly root enhancers, and a dash of silica.

In closing I look forward to meeting and getting to know you all, feel free to critique my current op by following the hyperlink in my signature.

Hello and welcome. Do you prefer sativas or indicas?

Hello TorturedSoul,

To be quite honest I don't know if I've had the luxury of trying a pure indica or sativa as everything is hybrid now. That being said, some of my favorite smoke is sativa dominate. My top three in order would have to be Critical Super Silver Haze, Green Crack, and Blue Dream. What about you, what do you prefer?

Old-school landrace sativas, by the bushel, lol.

Hi Addo and welcome to 420 Magazine.

I also have a few White Widows mixed in here in the backyard and since I've never grown them before eager to try them out this fall when they are finished.

I think it's shame and a big scam that governments worldwide see this plant as an anathema rather than a godsend for the people who might benefit from its effects. I have 15 plants in the backyard and there's not a day that goes by where I don't worry that someone will notice what I have and not like it and call the police. Here where I live the George Soros funded district attorneys let the violent criminals out on little to no bail but feel the legal consequences for my garden would not be a slap on the wrist from the court. What a messed up government we have with corruption and incompetence.

Alot to unpack here, first your plants look lovely and if you've been growing for a while, and are not a nuisance in sure your neighbors will over look your situation.

Next, people spend money on elected representatives all the time the guys very rich and likely needs a tax write off. Regardless, the DA will operate within the limits of the laws and constitution; and its not what you know is what you can prove in court. So if people are getting off with light sentences it's either the charges they felt would stick or the court is showing leniency. Not everything in the US is funded by George Soros, and the boogy men. I challenge you to recall the first time you heard about George Soros and what light he was painted in. I'll bet it was from a right wing news outlet that blamed him for the world's woes. My opinion as a Infantry combat veteran is that the United States in general is exceedingly ruthless especially on the Geopolitical landscape. Were not some beacon of hope and equality, the past few decades should be testimony to that. We enforce our will on those we can, and respect no one. Mass populations suffer because of out actions, economies are destroyed, and people are forced into poverty and sickness. Be grateful that your main worries are 15 plants, your neighbors, the DA who could care less about you, and the right wing boogiemen. You could be worried about if the next US drone strike will obliterate your house, or if your currency is crashing due to sanctions. First world problems my friend, turn off the news and the hate and just enjoy your time on this rock; I've seen life cut short more times than I care to accept, and the little things don't really matter.

I'm sure in due time is will be acceptable where you live to have cannabis, however most states make it mandatory to obscure your operations in the public eye. Meaning it's not legal to grow a massive pot plant in your front yard so you may still have some issues down the road even if it's legalized.

Anyway friend, thank you for your comment and I hope all works out and you find peace.

I just realized that you've got a garden journal. I think I glanced at it, initially, but then it slipped my mind (so many threads...). I'll have to visit it again, to see what progress you've made. And whether you've given each plant its own DWC reservoir.

Yeah, the irony surrounding that one is heavy, indeed. People like Elon Musk announce that they're going to give money to charity. Someday? Richest man in the world, yeah?

Soros has a net worth of something like $8.5bn. It'd be a larger number - but he has given away more than $32bn. First time I ever heard about him? When he gave $35,000,000 to New York (state), to be distributed to poor kids (age 3 to 17) @ $200 each. <SCRATCHES HEAD> Or maybe it was when I read about all the money he'd given to support political dissidents in places like the former Soviet Union. The money he'd given to support the pro-democracy movement in Georgia (the country, not the state)? When I read that the governments of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan hate him and have banned his pro-democracy initiatives there? Two countries well-known for their high position on the civil rights index. No, wait... . Add Belarus to that list, too.

I definitely heard about the money he gave to cannabis decriminalization efforts in Massachusetts, California, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Nevada and Maine. And California's 2008 Proposition 5, and Proposition 19 a couple of years later. He was donating $5,000,000 per year to the Drug Policy Alliance. Pretty progressive for an old white guy who "hasn't smoked marijuana(sic) in years," lol.

He seems to be greatly appreciated all over the world, with the exception of the members of totalitarian regime governments and some people in the USA who do their "research" on social media websites and at certain political rallies. Personally, I don't know. But when I imagine a world in which he never bothered to champion the causes that he has... I see a slightly shittier place. And I wish that even a quarter of the world's billionaires donated a quarter as much to charities and devoted a tenth of the effort towards dealing with humanitarian issues that he has. Seems like people who suffered a... very difficult childhood grow up to either be complete b@stards - or they expend a great deal of effort in trying to improve the lives of other people. All in all, I'm glad that he's one of the latter.

This not entirely nonpolitical post will destruct in 3... 2... 1... ;)

anyone who's reached the top of maslow's heirarchy, and becomes a philanthropist as a result, always receives incoming from particular jealous circles. the irony is most of them get there through the system the 'righteous' are claiming to defend.

legalization has not benefited the demographic most in need of economic opportunity here. pardons for past minor offences are slow in arriving - if ever, and initiatives to center the industry on helping lower income brackets evaporated seconds in front of corporate cash. it's going to be exactly like the global booze industry model eventually.

Tortured,

This is an exceedingly well-informed bit of information and really paints a truer picture of his impact globally. I personally prefer to not cross the political spectrum on such a site, nor do I care to defend Soros. However, we live in the age of disinformation where the masses think doing research is turning to politically leaning news outlets versus historical records, or peer reviewed papers with sources and credentials.

Furthermore, someone who subscribes to that political view is essentially violating their parties' beliefs by simply growing, consuming, and championing cannabis use. As of 2022, only three senators from that political sphere voted to legalize cannabis. If they are so worried about laws and ramifications, while equally breaking the law for their own benefit which is irony in itself. They should actually read legislation, and elect officials who hold the same views they do instead of parroting nonsense and complaining about justice. It's ironic how well some groups misdirect and place blame, and their followers refuse to read bills being passed or any form of legislative. Some people thrive on word of mouth and choose never to validate things. Regardless, thank you for taking the time to inform everyone and plant some searchable knowledge on the masses.

I have a feeling were going to get along just fine.

I have a feeling were going to get along just fine.

I get along with most people, unless I see them hurting the defenseless, allowing their dog to defecate in my yard, sorting one of the rabbits/squirrels in my backyard when I know they've already got more food than I do, or trying to break into my house.

As to the other... To me, it feels almost criminal to not research the actual voting records of politicians (or their business/etc behaviors, if they have not already been an elected official), because it's all publicly-available information. Not "what a person says the individual did," but the actual things they did are easy to find out for oneself. But I'm probably considered to be a bit of an odd duck. I've received "public food assistance. When you're poor, you get used to "creatively sourcing" food... Then a pandemic hits, the small independent grocer that sold "old" food for pennies on the dollar goes out of business, half the restaurants close and the remainder get really good at not throwing away food in order to stay in business, and suddenly the dumpsters you used to harvest from are not only slim pickings, there are also more people digging through them - some of which have kids, and that takes all the... well, hearing a little girl say, "Hurry up, mommy, I'm hungry," is enough to cause just about anyone to slink off empty-handed. Pride not being very filling, I got on the dole. While it may not have made the difference between living and dying in my case, it probably did prevent me from looking like I vacationed in a concentration camp. So... Yes, I have benefited from government assistance. And I suppose I have also benefited from state representatives who tried to get all they could for "their state." Still... I am not a person who favors benefiting by causing other people to suffer/lose/etc., so the latter is not something I am in favor of. And, as for government assistance, I'd be comfortable with the thought of ALL of it going away, even though it would have put me in dire straits.

I'd be a fan of capitalism, if we actually had such a thing instead of the bastardized socialism/capitalism that we do have. Regulate almost nothing, subsidize almost nothing, pare away 90+% of the laws, and just deal with things like national defense, infrastructure, and suchlike. If someone decides to get rich by selling breakfast cereal that causes kids to go blind, well, they'd be advised to get quite rich indeed in order to hire the legions of personal protective service persons they'd need to protect them when the rest of us go head-hunting, lol. Most issues would... quickly get dealt with ;).

Just my opinions. I'm not a politician - therefore, I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else that my opinions are the solution. Although... come to think of it, if the only worry when someone wishes to grow cannabis in their front yard is whether it'll annoy the neighbor by shading his flowers... that's probably easier to deal with than the fear of being arrested. . . .

Tortured,

I'm not going to pretend that I have the same life experience that you are speaking on. I've endured some tough things, however being hungry or unsheltered when able is not one of them. I am glad however that they we are able to have this conversation and express our views without conflict of ideologies.

With regards to social programs, I've used a few when the need was there. I used food stamps for roughly a month and paid it back in the future. Additionally, WIC has been used by my family on two occasions one of which was early in our lives, and the other was the onset of the pandemic and the level of restrictions some states imposed. Furthermore, I've used the GI bill which I paid into, and programs designed to help veterans with qualifying percentages of disability.

Also, I know a few people who have used programs designed by the good will, or state funded programs to help people transition or learn a new trade in an expedited setting. Those people went from using social capital and worrying about rent to having a house and a family. So, I would have to say my stance is that they should remain in place, but they could raise the requirements; and provide a more in-depth background check to ensure said programs are being used only by those who need it. The state job programs, are the types of programs that are carefully vetted and produce results. However, if they do not get used then their funding diminishes, and the program may cease which would hurt future participants.

Next, the idea of researching people sounds good and can lead to some promising information. The only issue is not everyone has the same access to information, and or is skilled enough to actually conduct the research. That is not including the ability to source materials and determine what is a political op ed versus a qualifying document. I imagine the majority of American's who come home from work exhausted follow a similar routine. They clean up, eat or drink, turn on a source of information, and passively accept what they hear because time is limited, its possibly enjoyable, and it might be a social topic among friends. A good comparison would be how Nazi Germany persuaded their populace to ignore the atrocities and the rounding up of Jewish neighbors. They simply manipulated all forms of media, slowly adjusting the message until that message was the new norm. A more recent example would be something along the lines of Russia. It's illegal to reference their military activity in country as a war instead of a special operation. People run the risk of being detained for something like seven years for contradicting the state message.

An example of how that would affect the general populace is as follows. If I grew up watching a particular news station and continued to watch that station throughout my life, I would likely evolve into whatever message they were conveying. I have family that's in their 70's, and only ever prescribed to one source of information. Talking to them is like talking to a person without a soul. Their views are beyond reproach, however their reasoning or ability to defend their views are non-existent.

To me it's weird how people tend to gravitate towards a group mentality, maybe its acceptance or social gratification, I don't know. But I look at the government differently, whoever closely aligns to my vision of how America should be in the future and for future generations is who I support. Political parties and die-hard supporters are the more advanced and civilized form of gang membership. They even sport the same colors, Crips blue, Dems blue, Pirus red, Repubs red. Both wear their colors in the open in the form pins and lapels, hats with their color and a political message, etc. Finally, both claim territory, defend it, and are willing to go to war with each other. It's not really a good system, and when you add in op eds things go to hell quickly and produce rage and resentment.

In closing I apologize for the ramble and any side it may seem I am taking; it was not my intent just my thoughts. Also, how do I quote a section of a post versus the whole post?

I reviewed Maslow's Hierarchy and I agree with you, and it's very easy to see how the system could and does function in the real world. Furthermore, it's easy to see how such a set of requirements to achieve self-actualization could lead to jealousy for those who achieve greatness or success.

This is a large bag of seeds and stems that needs to be combed through again and again to get it right. There are too many factors such as race, racism, outdated laws, politics, and personal viewpoints to achieve a fluid system of actual justice. Those in need of having their sentences revoked or commuted may suffer from any of the aforementioned factors which prevent them from being released and possibly compensated. We really need to solve equality before something can move to the next step. Something as simple as checking a box with regards to if a person qualifies for release isn't simple when you factor in hate and prejudice. It might go from yea they qualify, to those people(s) suck and look oops I lost their paperwork... forever.

in application it's been noted you can skip a level up or down, depending on socioeconomic/psychosocial circumstances. you can move either way at any time.

i have fam that went to jail for this. for less than you have going right now. he was trying to feed his fam and keep enough cash on hand to keep the family farm. he did a welding job for a neighbour in need, who turned him for the favour.

he got 4yrs, served 2. that's federal here. it's heavy.

my folks remortgaged so the farm didn't zero. others stepped in too. it's all over and everyone's ok now, but it's a decade plus in getting there, plus legal. and he wasn't the deepest in to it.

two years later we ran med licensed and open for close to a decade, and that was a decade ago, but he still carries the tag and can't get a pardon.

after all the stuff i got legal, he's the one who can't get a passport.

One does not wish to be ruled by a computer - however, a lot of things could (IMHO) be better done by one than by a person, simply because of the bias/prejudice issue. Even that depends on the programmer(s) not having an agenda, or (possibly unconsciously) some sort of bias that ends up being somehow reflected in their work. However, assuming that can be dealt with... such things become a simple matter of "have the required conditions for this thing been met?"

It would remove the possibility of a person's... issues affecting the thing. I suppose it would remove the kindness/pity factor, too - which might be somewhat unfortunate from time to time. On the other hand, and this might seem like a cold-hearted statement, there are nearly eight billion of us, so the occasional "pitiless but just" decision is not all that likely to doom the species.

It is, or appears to me to be so, from observation, that it is easier to manipulate the average member of our species than it is to train a dog. I've seen examples all my life... from the smallest things, to the owner of a business I once worked at (along other things, he sold used vehicles), to that whole "don't vote for those rich power-mad candidates, vote for ME!" (Said by a rich, power-mad candidate  .) And beyond.

It's distressing, indeed, to realize that I've manipulated others without thought or effort. It has caused me to distance myself from people in a lot of situations (I mostly only rant on this website, where I - mostly ;) - try to limit my rants to cannabis-related subjects).

I'm hesitant to go full-bore "for the state" - because that's the PRC, sort of. When considering a political candidate, though, I try to think about how likely the candidate is to do good things for people in general, the nation, and even the world instead of focusing on what it would mean to me, personally, if he or she was elected. Partly because of the obvious reasons - but also because voting for a candidate who happens to champion one of my pet issues without weighing that against how the person is likely to vote on other issues and (depending on the specific office) what sorts of policy decisions the person might make, who will get chosen to fill positions, et cetera is also a form of manipulation. I've always looked at voting as a responsibility, and have tried to put some effort into the decisions involved.

I agree that not everyone has the ability to intelligently do this. However, I feel that most people do - but many of them simply don't bother to expand the effort (and it does require some effort). For years, I had a neighbor who was... using the phrase "dumb as a post" wouldn't - quite - be an insult to the post, but... He was mentally retarded, and significantly so. As long as I knew him (~25 years), he worked two full-time jobs. As you can imagine, they weren't chair warming office jobs, either. Had a wife (no genius, herself, but within the norm, I think) and three children - who went to college. He managed to pay off the house he was living in. I heard that he'd also paid for a big chunk of his kids' education, although I'm not sure. I know he paid his mortgage off, because he threw a big neighborhood party when he did (he was proud - and deserved to be). I remember him saying that he was going to stop doing odd jobs at that point, lol, but I don't think he ever did. Maybe he just liked to keep busy, or to feel useful, IDK. He did a lot of lawn work in the neighborhood, cleaned gutters, offered to wash and wax people's vehicles, helped reshingle the house across the street from my parents (during one of the hottest Augusts I can remember), that sort of thing. The year Dad dug down to the basement foundation all along three sides of the house and installed French drains, he helped with that. Due to the way the property was, a lot of earth got moved via wheelbarrow to the backyard while the work was being done. Pop went inside for something or other, and I saw that it was full. So I decided to be helpful and wheel it back there and dump it. But I was... nine, I think, so that didn't go well. So I was standing there, looking at the overturned wheelbarrow, it was starting to rain (of course), and Frank ran up and whispered, "Hide, go hide," and kind of pushed me away. I took a couple of steps without really understanding - then realized Dad had come back outside, saw the mess (on the neighbor's property, lol), and Was Not Amused, as they say. Frank told Dad that he did it. IDK if he'd been beaten when he was a child and was afraid I'd be punished instead of only being told to stay away from the work, or was just being nice. Years later, I confessed to Mom, and she laughed, then said, "I know, we saw you through the window. Why do you think your father came out right after it happened?"

Er... Anyway, he was nice, and a hard worker, but he could barely read. You wouldn't know it to look at me - or what I've managed to accomplish - but I have a fairly high IQ, and have been reading since I was three. Frank used to sit on our front porch on Sunday afternoon and read the newspaper, sort of. And he'd ask me about what he was trying to read, to explain it to him.

That was in the late '70s No internet. I didn't even have a simple eight-bit computer until the early '80s. And in 1980, I learned a bit about politics - because Frank brought everything he could find about the candidates for President over, and wanted to have it explained.

As far as I can recall, Frank never once asked me who he should vote for. He wanted to learn about the candidates so that he could decide that, himself. Still, I kind of felt like I was involved in the process, and can remember some of it. I remember him telling me that he'd tell me who he voted for afterwards, but not before. (It was Jimmy Carter.)

Guy was off to work before daylight Monday thru Friday, worked something like 12 hours on Saturday, Sunday evening, and (IIRC) two or three evenings per week. Additionally, seemed like every time I turned around, I'd see him doing some little job or other in his "copious amount of spare time." And he might have had an IQ of about 79.

Yet he tried seriously to figure out who the best person to vote for in the 1980 Presidential election was!

If you can make it past sixth grade, you should be able to do that thing. Maybe not pick the best candidate (I am not certain that I have done that in every election that I voted in  ) - but to at least make a reasonably well-informed decision that's based on the candidates' past actions. Even homeless people can make use of their local public library in this country, FFS. (Yes, I realize that COVID-19 disrupted a lot of things, and that one of those things was the public library system - but I am meaning in general.)

Whew, THAT'S a ramble, LMAO. I do that, from time to time, but the above is more rambling than most. Happens when I'm exhausted. Short version: If a guy who has two jobs, a family, and LOW intelligence can do it, just about everyone *CAN*. It's a question of want to (or not).

I wonder what it's like in Israel. I picked that nation not because I'm Jewish (not that it matters - but I'm not), but because Israel requires every Israeli citizen over the age of 18 who is Jewish, Druze or Circassian to serve in the Israel Defense Forces, although there are some exceptions. And I wonder whether that... helps instill some sense of civic responsibility that many USA citizens might lack. IDK. The only things that spring to mind that we HAVE TO do are pay taxes and - if called upon - serve as a member of a jury. And the latter, in some ways, might be looked at as an informal intelligence test, in that it's pretty easy to get out of, if a person really want to... Which many people, apparently, do.

Ramble ramble. . . .

Hello Everyone,

I just came into the possession of some pai gao sitting in the mid 20's with regards to THC content. Boring story short I'm going to test my train of thought on it by giving you carpel tunnel. Now here is some background information which likely should have gone at the top of my introduction. However, this was a few years ago and I will go into that more.

I started growing roughly between 2014 and the end of 2016, took a break and have since returned for at least one journal. I tabulated a few journals in that time on this particular website, however I think my light manufacturer and our gracious host had a falling out and I was purged for mentioning their product. LEDs came in the shape of frisbys, and the pre bult DWC bucket was in its infancy. I coached a few people on different sites, mainly in regard to low stress training and symptom identification and remedy. Any who, I started premade cannabis specific fertilizer, progressed to coco, and then finally to some form of recirculating DWC setup with expanded clay pebbles. I've grown massive midget auto, ak47, critical super silver haze, skunk, blueberry and possibly a few more.

Now, in retrospect this was the time of new technologies and a lot of misinformation from manufacturers. Additionally, I was new to the experience, so I missed out on a premature harvest or two. The type of situation where it's covered in trichomes, some amber is developing, however she can put on a chunk of weight if given another week or two. My all-time favorite grow would have been Critical Super Silver Haze which I still have a picture or two of. My mistake was receiving an unintentional ban hammer from a moderator. Additionally, I purged the majority of my pictures and online identity from this website and my personal storage. What I have left is as follows and consists of the haze and blueberry with some trichome development shots.

With that bit out of the way, I grow in a legal state under regulations and home improvement stores are now my new thing with regards to grow gear and DIY rigs. I have a few years of college education a chunk (100 plus credits) in two separate bachelor's degrees, one almost obtained. But our gracious leaders of the past decided that my school was for profit and poof, like my old grow information my degree and progress we're nonexistent. I was able to salvage some, move states and schools and settled on a fine university. However, things in life change and so do your habit's, so more moves we're in order and here I am. I will likely always refrain from mentioning specifics because I am not sponsored, and advertisement isn't free. Additionally, I want to avoid the ban hammer again but feel free to ask me specifics in a private message if such things exist.
