WELCOME!
Thanks for stopping by, call me McHigh! this will be my first official grow (I've dibbled and dabbled in friends' projects) and I look forward to everyone's words of wisdom. Questions too!

MESSAGE TO READERS
As I happily anticipate these next three months, I don't know where to start! I've been consuming for 5 years, reading for 4 years, scheming for 3 years, saving for 2 years, and a member of 420mag for 1 hour. I welcome all comments and questions, but do so in a manner of consideration. Nobody likes a cluttered thread with 75+ pages. I have chosen to document my grow to 1.) keep myself busy 2.) have means of support and information 3.) provide entertainment for you amazing people! Stay classy my friends.

Hi McHigh,

Welcome to 420 Magazine and the community that gathers here!

Just love that your began your interest in growing by reading. I think everyone in the community enjoys helping others, but I confess to being dismayed sometimes at the number of folks that spend zero time in preparation for their efforts, and then have a ton of really basic questions.

Great start for you and I look forward to following along with your progress.

Be well and happy growing!

Thanks gang I appreciate it. I forgot to add I have limited internet access (library isn't 24/7 lol) so I can't be Johnny on the spot at all times. Anyways I'm off for the night. Gonna check the PO Box for seeds, mix soil, and maybe some sunset pics of these beautiful Rockies. I'll share my goodies tomorrow. Peace!

Looking good man, that's alot of space for some nice green ladies. Looks like all your planning and saving paid off, setup looks great. How many pots there? 10? Let's hope we get to see some good budporn in a couple months

Cheers

Thanks for stopping by. 10 pots for now.... I have 15 seeds coming At most I'll do 12 plants. The led's footprint claims 3'x3' and I have two so I can have a scrog that's 6'x3' for a total of 18 sq. ft. Roughly an ounce per sq. ft. is what I'm shooting for to put me at a pound dead on. I'm running Autos as a trial (quicker) because this is for income just as much as pleasure... I up n quit my job, jumped on my motorcycle, and 1,700 miles later I ended up in Colorado! :laughtwo: At the end of this grow I'll double lights, run photoperiod plants, and have a ridiculously stupid huge SCROG. Most people walk into a swimming pool I dive headfirst naked! :):):):):)

Welcome. Just like you I dove in head first cept for I didn't invest as much time researching as you did. I probably have 2 months of research and most of that was spent on lighting and rdwc system. Lol. I too, have a fast and vast growing at the moment (2 weeks to be exact) I'm disappointed in one of my seedlings but she's coming along. Good luck and don't stress too much.

Stress gets ya no where! "Manure helps a garden grow. Think of yourself as a garden, ever changing. All the shit in your life serves your growth and helps transform you into something strong, and resilient, and beautiful. Even Delicious." - Scott Stabile :riskybusiness: You got a journal I can follow along? Put it in your signature.

Hello McHigh, welcome to the 420 family.

I'll sit quietly in the back corner and watch in on your journey. I like the ambitious ones.

Best advice I can give you is don't love them to death, and don't stress. We're all here to help you succeed.

Now, if you only had seed, lol.

:cheer:

Looks like a great set up you have. I myself would take some more time and totally black out those windows, I see a little light poking through.

ETA on your seeds?

Thanks! I plan on lining the trash bags with duct tape to completely seal it, this was only a test to see if light emits directly thru them (8 total layers) and it does not. I turned lights on, ran outside to the windows, and did a happy dance!!!

As for seeds, today is the 10th day since Herbies confirmed shipment. They said due to complications they are not currently offering tracking and that it is en route via Royal Airmail 5-10 days.... Instructed to contact Herbies if no arrival by March 1st :helpsmilie:

Thanks for the kind words! If only I had a damn seed aha. So you like ambitious ones? Well I like the loud ones so don't sit quietly in that corner Heirloom! :)

UPDATE: Still no seeds, today is the 10th day.... ho hum I feel like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh. I stopped by the Hydro store and man I love those people! Knowledgeable, friendly, frugal. And the younger son (8) was showing me the tomato and pepper plants he's growing! Great sense of family there. Even a few beers with the manager who has done me a couple solid favors :laughtwo: I purchased a bag of worm castings, Advanced Nutrients Bud Candy, and two 7 gal smart pots. I've decided to do my 2 THC Bombs in 7 gal and the 10 fast n vast will start in 3 and finish in 7. (I already mixed soil in the 3's otherwise I'd return them.)

OK. I do have a little more to say. I've grown in fabric pots for about 5 years. Coco and soil. Some pots purchased, some I made myself. Root ball extraction for transplanting is a PITA at best, and usually a little root damaging and a little shocky to the plant. At worst you accidentally lose the bottom half. Even though the root ball is denser in fine roots, you'll still find they still run along the bottom corners and grow into the fabric. You will always lose a little root, no matter what.

Two ways around trying to peel the fabric down off the root ball. Either plant in your final pot size, which I recommend you do for the autos. Or, get some velcro and sew it into the vertical seam on the pot, from top to bottom. Trust me, it's worth the effort if you intend to transplant. I'll never try to peel a fabric pot off again. I'm pretty sure I pioneered this mod 4 years ago after being disgusted.

Heirloom I love it! Had nearly an hour long discussion about this at the Hydro shop. The velcro idea is ingenious. Whoah just had a thought mid typing............ I can't return the 3 gal. But I'll have to buy 7 gal to transplant. And I haven't started growing yet..... So I might as well buy the 7 gal today to start all in the 7's and unfortunately eat $44 on the 3 gal smart pots oh well. Anyways I'm off for the night, going to conduct a ppm experiment in regards to boiling water. Here's the link if anyone is interested it's in the FAQ section.

Boiling water raises the ppm's - Why? - Details provided

Thank you. If the price of Smart Pots is killing you, as they did me and made me make my own for a while, try "Root Pouch". Available at greenhousemegastore dot com and elsewhere. They are not quite as nicely assembled as a Smart Pot, but still hold dirt, drain water and breathe air. I currently use the grey ones.

WELCOME!
