Well, now I have time to go pick up the correct size uniseals for the water pump line

I want to make a top feeder... should I drill holes or cut slits?

I thought top feeders were more like this:

But if not that, I'd drill holes to make sure you had good even flow into the hydroton. Smaller holes near the feed line and larger further away depending on how much pressure the pump puts out.

Is this too much pump, with 3/4 tubing for 2 buckets?

Edit: that tubing is 1/2 inch but I did pick up some 3/4"

Ugh.... I used the 2" saw and 2" uniseal with 1 1/4 inch pvc and it's leaking

Seriously considering scrapping this plan and investing in an autopot system. Hubby thinks we should just slap some flexseal on it but I think I need a nap to think about it.

With a bit of flexseal tape this bucket is salvageable (though I wouldn't use it in the system)

NOW I'm considering a single unit rdwc, in a 12 gallon tote. I haven't cut holes yet but this is the general idea...

My buckets are 75 mil, not 90, and idk what the tote is. My pvc size doesn't match my uniseal size. If I get pvc to match the seal then I need a new saw too. I don't know if I can find the right size uniseal locally, nor 90 mil buckets. I got the ones I have at a grow supply shop so I just assumed they were the right thickness. If the single unit setup doesn't work then I'm getting an autopot system, but that's ebb and flow right? Is there a similar package setup for rdwc? At this point, a complete package with instructions is what I need. Not fully defeated but also don't want to keep buying components.

So apparently that pump is overkill in a single unit system (and won't reduce the temp) so my new plan is to flood the tote with air...

I'm not going to cut any more holes, for now.

Three small airstones and one open ended in the tote..... the rumble looks good

Some of the roots are a tad colored but don't feel slimy and don't smell bad

The other 2 lines are in the bucket, without stones...

Grape Ape clone is all settled in...

I really REALLY hope the extra air keeps the temps reasonable

Oh I also added a cool mist humidifier (her leaves feel almost crispy) and dimmed the light.

On those leaking grommet, some silicone caulk on the inside will seal it for u and is easy to disassemble if needed
Also try wrapping the pipe with tape to make it a but bigger if the pipe area is leaking and not the grommet

I got the grommet at a local grow supply shop, it doesn't list the size. I did add caulk to the hole in the bucket, which is where it's leaking. But for now I'm going to stick with dwc, maybe I'll try adding a system with recirculation in the future.

I dimmed the light and added a cool mist humidifier and she looks a bit better this morning...

If I had a spot for it (and a small fridge for a chiller) I would build Rider's RWDC system. Probably without the full automation he had but using his blueprints and instructions for sure.
