Josh's First Attempt at a Successful Indoor Grow

Looking like I have a problem on my hands. Well, I consider it a problem. First, my lights come on at 7:30 PM. I did this for temperature and electrical price considerations. What I didn't take into account is the inside of my grow tent getting 85 F+ with the lights out.

I live in an old house, built in the 1930's with no insulation. The tents are down in the basement. There is a solid wooden door at the top of our stairs that is conneted to our sun porch/laundry room. There is also an exterior screen door net to the basement door. That little fan is pulling in hot air during the day.

I'm currently running the exhaust 24/7. Last night it got down to 55 F with the lights on. Right now, at 12:30 PST, it is 84 degrees inside the tent with the lights off. I'm getting worried that I'm going to get a tent of hermies. I read some where that A Trains have a knack for herming. So, I guess Ii need to put the exhaust fan on a timer and see if that helps.

It can get 130 F here. I have to get this fixed, and on the cheap real quick.

Already did. I as waiting for you to give a glimmer of input. I know we have two 180 degree oppposite things going on. Your input is always welcomed and very much appriciated.

I have been keeping up daily on your current. I spend a while doing some research into your situation. I thought I knew the answer-pretaor wasps. They are itty-bitty and benificial, don't bother the gardener like hornets, yellow jackets, etc. With the research, although, the species of wasp is super specific to the genus of the catarpillar. I'm not sure of that part of your situation, but kept reading. What I saw was the wasps are HIGHLY effective, but ungodely expensive. Just a thought. If it were me, and I had those nasties, I think I'd cut....mmmm, maybe 5% diamacius earth into your soil mix. It'll hit them where they hurt, at least those grubs. But man, your climate seems as good for the pests as the plants.

Much love your way. Not like you need it, but some props too.

Haha thanks Josh. Yeah there are A LOT of bugs out there, it's surprising, Many different types too. I predict there will be a lot of food for the baby mantids to grow, it should be interesting. I'm sure wasps work, but I will not seek to put an abundance of wasps near the house, it's not something I'd like to have to deal with while tending to my plants. Preying mantis on the other hand should be a delight to work with :)

I've thought about getting some DE, but not sure its totally necessary right now. I'm letting all the little bugs and flies live so that the mantids have food when they hatch.

BTW running 85 F is not a problem sir, although I'm an outdoor grower, one of my older OG kush plants last year thrived heavily in 100+ F heat scenarios. Also, if you decide to add a CO2 supplement (not sure if you already are), the high heat will help them metabolize the CO2 quicker, and plumper, denser buds have been seen through its addition at your stage in flowering.

Flowers look good though! :bravo:

Oh PS, 85 with the lights out may have been a little excessive :p

Yeah, I iknow 85, 95, 105, etc is alright during the day and provided everything else is in check. I was just worried that my tent had the hottest temps during the night, not the day. You know, lower the temps by 30 degrees at night to bring out the blue and purple colors of dirrent strains...I was just starting to think if the temerature inversion was reversed, all hell could potentionally break out. Took 2 seconds to fix (hopefully).

I had a bunch of watering, rotating, and shuffling to do. I tried to take picks often, but I was pretty busy. Here goes:

Here's a couple pics of what's left from my first go at ice hash.

I'd say it came out to 8-10 g dry

I'm not happy with the quality of the pictures my camera produces. The following shots were taken with my girl's camera.

He'es a sativa dominate O.G. (I can't recall the specific strain name) that I got from a friend for $100/ounce. Very, very fine medicine.

My buddy that I received the O.G. from runs a collective, same guy that the A Trains originated from. He had a few plants that looked to be about the same stage as the A Trains. He said they would be chopped in two weeks. Since then the A Train's pistils are starting to darken. The plants are also getting very top heavy and taking on a nice sticky appearance. I don't want to speculate on the final weight, but I think 10 grams dried/plant is going to be pretty close.

Cheers.

The flavor of the OG is like a lemon drop with a slight fuel aftertaste. Out of double perk it has almost no flavor-very smooth. Definately some of the best I've had. I hope the Holy Grail Kush is at least that good.I'll try and get the name of the strain.

I was doing some research the other night and came across another O.G. strain I'm very interested in. It's called Hootchie Cootchie Kush. Supposed to be a cross between the original G13 and OG #18.

I'm thinking the first of those A Trains are about a week or so from the big chop.

As I mentioned, they went crazy during the stretch. They average 4' tall in a 2 liter Hempy Pot.

The light was well within range. They didn't stretch from lack of light. It smells top notch. There's, I think, 26 of them in there.

They are all close to the same size. A couple seem to be coming into "ripeness" quicker than others. It's been a long time coming, bit I think I'm going to pull 10 grams dry/plant. We'll see.

:Namaste:

I have a cupboard full of glass jars I've been hoarding for the last few months.

These plants, the A Trains, are from three different mothers. So, they aren't all at the same stage of ripening. There's three or four that are taking the lead. About half of their hairs have turned red. I think it's going to take another week. I want the full couch-lock effect. I should also mention that there is one "runt" in there. She just doesn't have the same vigor as the others.

Another thing to mention, sad really. I don't think the Tutankhamen plant is going to make it. When it emerged above ground it only had one cotyledon leaf. The other plants have three sets of true leaves and the Tut is just sitting there. It was the cheapest seed so I'm not out too much. But it was the strain my buddy was most interested in. Oh well. I'll put up some bud porn tonight.

Just wanted to mention, I started the "flush" tonight on all the A Trains. I know that most fellers that use BPN and this style of grow go without a "flush"/purge/what ever. I'm going to do it because I can...finally. And, I believe it will culminate to produce a better end result.

One week flush; damn it.

Got to love the names stoners come up right..
2L's are looking killer josh223, hella tall but they are packing on the buds!!
Went a couple pages back, anticipating a harvest I see, good going on the hash! Ended up with a bunch of hermie buds from my 1st grow, will be attempting the same. Did you use bubble bags? Any pointers that I should be aware of going into this? keep it up bud!

CA215, welcome aboard. For some reason not too many people check out my journal. You presence is welcomed.

Gumpy Hash-no bags needed. Here's a link to where I got the idea from:

4inch PVC Aero/NFT 4x5 SCROG - 1200 Watts

It's from 420fied. That guy has taught me a lot. I recommend everyone to read his journals.

I made the hash just like he shows except, for some reason, I can't find any wax paper anywhere. I tried parchment paper. It worked alright, but not great. Another thing I did differently is use a lot more trim than what he called for-maybe 50-50 water/ice and trim. Don't do that! Go by the ratio he mentions. I also don't have a corded drill so I went through both lithium ion 18 volt batteries in my Makita.

I freeze garbage bags of trim for hash making. 420fied looked like he was using fresh trim. Either way should work fine. I just store it in the freezer until I get around to hash making. I currently have around three gallons stored. I'm going to wait until I harvest before making another batch. Hopefully that will be soon.

Appreciate the link J, you got quite a nice chunk of hash there, will give it a go would rather save a couple $20s on bubble bags! Will look into this gumpy method a little more but from 420fieds journal it looks veryvery simple. How much trim did you use? I couldn't find anywhere it was pointed out through his thread. Figure I will use about a "gallon" which in my mind would look like 5-6 oz? Got some wax paper and pretty much all the other utensils around the house. Should work good thanks for the pointers!! reps!

I feel like the more you go around and post on other peoples threads or say what's up to the new members you tend to get some people coming by, I had my journal linked saying "Click me, Click me" and I seemed to get a lot of views and replies. Really enjoy the help around here, i'm sub'd now so I can help spread the moderate info I have learned so far, even though you are now coming to an end, plenty of clones and what not on your hands. Planning on a new grow journal? :thumb:
