DarkGreenGoo's - HSO Blue Dream - Indoor - LED - Coco Hempy SCROG!

Some updates.

Nugs are getting a bit fatter. New Veg tent arrived, and is constructed. Will set it up with the HVAC today and post up some photos of the flower/veg setup. 300W LED will be going in the veg tent, 450W LED for flower tent.

Delicious Seeds Northern Light Blue is the next strain. I decided to go with it because it's a shorter indica, pretty damn potent and has good medical benefits. I will be mainlining it, in straight Coco with Perlite, in soft plastic pots. If I can start Veg next week, I should be able to pop it into the tent within a month of my Blue Dream Harvest. I will then start another plant and begin staggering. Hopefully will end up with a Harvest every month or two.

Looks great :bravo:

Cant wait to see some flowers on my BD under a 450W LED.
But I might have done to much with 4 plants and 8 weeks veg.

Anyway I had 4 HSO BD and seed them all, took 2 clones of everyone and want to see witch one will be a mother.

Day one of flower

So I decided to not scrog them to keep some options on my side.

Point for you to make me a bit more nervous :laughtwo:

Those should end up the perfect size.

My biggest issue is because I thought I was going to SCROG, I didn't top them enough. Which made the stretch even worse.

Looks good and still 4 weeks to go.

I will keep an eye on it and top or supercrop it if needed.
One of the 4 seems more Sativa like.

Thanks for your input.

DGG...

It looks like that one cola is just a few inches away from the light...are you getting any bleaching with that or is it handling it okay?

From other grows on here, it seems like some genetics handle being closer to LED's fine and others' start to bleach if you're even 10 inches away...

That cola actually has no bleeching at all. However two of my colas to the right of that, but more in the center have bleaching. The wierd part is those colas are significantly further away from the top of the light. One is more than 12" away.

It is just the tops, but I figured where the PAR is higher on the light, the further from the light the colas need to be or risk bleaching.

I let it grow and get a bit out of hand. I should have topped and trained for an even canopy. My next grow under these I will be keeping things MUCh shorter, and try to hit the "sweet" spot for the light.

I have 1 plant 6 inches from the light right now and no ill effects...but I can feel it's on the knife-edge too. I really want to raise it a bit and fighting the urge for another day or so. It's just I need the coverage in the cabinet too, so may have no choice.

Thank you DGG for this great journal and thread. I'm a newbie (can you tell from my stats -- this is my first post!) but have been reading and learning all I can from this site for the past 2 months as I undergo chemo treatments for mantle cell lymphoma. I'm trying to get ready for my first grow. Think of me in the veg stage thinking about going into flowering. :)

The one thing I was disappointed to read about was your disappointment with using hempys containers. They struck me as a really nice, simple starting point for a newbie. I know you plan to go back to your old method. But if someone were going to go forward with a hempy at their most basic, and kept a very simple nutrition regimen others have documented, are there any suggestions or recommendations you would make to help the grow? Obviously, there are plenty of other experienced growers on this thread, and I welcome all thoughts on this!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this. I appreciate it.

First off, I have to say stay strong and I hope you get well. My mother, grandmother (like a mother to me), grandfather all battled some form of cancer. My mother being the latest, and still has not reached the five year mark yet before we can consider her in a "safe" zone.

I understand how terrible chemo can be, and I am thankful they caught my mothers breast cancer before it was needed. I really do wish you the best.

My main issues with Hempy buckets isn't really with the buckets at all. It is more with the buckets and how I go about treating Coco. Most of the issues I had were really on my shoulders, and the mistakes I made exacerbated some of the flaws in a Hempy bucket. If done right, Hempy buckets are fantastic, and thousands of people grow awesome plants in them.

The main thing I would advise is do not go with 5 gallon Hempy Buckets. It is too big, and pretty much a waste if they are being filled with Coco anyway. 3 Gallons with 1 gallon res would be perfect. Easier to flush, easier to manage. Even a half gallon Res in a 3 gallon pot would do really well.

The second thing I would advise is whatever feeding scheduled you go with, make sure it is on the lower EC/PPM end. I have grown plants with high EC and low EC. The best plants I have produced were all lower EC. As you can see with this grow, I was feeding a pretty high PPM/EC regiment, and when I dialed it back down to an EC of 1-1.2 around 600-650 PPM, the plants rebounded and have fattened up tremendously.

I would also suggest when feeding your Hempy buckets, make sure to really get a lot of runoff. Don't just feed until the res is full, or you get a bit of runoff out the hole. Give the plants lots and lots of of the solution. I am giving my plants 4 gallons between the two, and I am going to increase it. Considering they have 1 gallon res's, I am getting a good amount of runoff each time. This will help keep the salt low.

Precharged coco also holds onto calmag, which releases Potassium into your medium for the plants consumption. The precharge is done so when you feed your plants they can uptake the calmag you give them, and for it not to get stuck in the medium itself (which is a problem with Coco). This extra potassium, when combined with other supplements which provide Potassium, could lock out Ca/mg like it did for me. So for example if you are using KoolBloom, and it says 1-2 TSP per gallon, go with .5 - 1 tsp. Never the high end mark with Potassium supplements.

Not sure what your setup is, but also make sure to have fresh air coming in from the bottom and extracting out the top. A lot of people have it extracting out the top, but don't allow enough air to come in the bottom. Your intake should be twice the size of your outtake. As you can see I have 1 6" ducting as an outtake at the top, and two six inch ducting at the bottom as intakes. This will help drag air from under the plants through the canopy, while making sure the tent is in a constant state of negative air pressure.

Don't cheap out on a PH pen. Get a good electronic, auto calibration pen with a replaceable probe. Make sure to calibrate it before you mix up your solution. EVERYTIME. Most problems I see people have is due to them getting lazy or cheap when it comes to PH testing. It is important to calibrate it often. The super expensive ones like BLuelab Guardian only need calibration once a month, but I would calibrate everything else every time I use it. Also store the tip in storage solution or PH 4 solution.

Thank you for such a thorough & comprehensive response with so many great suggestions. I am planning on 3 gal hempys, and only 2 plants in the smallest size Secret Jardin grow tent with a LED 300W light. and 6" exhaust fan, so I appreciate the air intake suggestion, and the recommendation to do the PH pen right. It's nice to get good advice on where you should spend the $, and where you can take the DIY or cheaper route.

I also appreciate your kind words of support and encouragement during my illness and treatment. I was rough when I went into the hospital at the end of Sept, but am doing much better now. I'm not completely anti-chemo because it has helped me tremendously. But I also that know attitude is critical here, and I am incredibly positive and resilient regarding my illness and treatments. I make my Drs and nurses laugh because I approach each day's chemo like a competitive eater trying to win a hot dog eating contest! Give it to me, and tell me what's next. Let's roll, baby! What can I do make it more effective? Need me to hang upside down from the ceiling while I eat hard-boiled eggs? Done! Next? But I also sincerely believe that I can and will benefit from cannabis oil treatments on several levels. Best wishes to you and your mother! We will prevail!

Stimpy
PS This grow looks pretty luscious to me! It may be sub-par to your expectations, but it still has some fine looking buds fattening up nicely.

Day 51. Taking them to 67-70 days. Don't think the plants will make it until day 77. they are slowly beginning to fade and have not begun the flush yet.

New genetics got here and I will begin germinating them tonight. I will start that thread once they are finished with veg.
