Jozo-sha's Getting Grounded - Air Pots, Dirt and OC+

Okay, I said "screw it" and repotted everything into Air Pots. The plants I'd repotted into Air Pots caught up to and were passing the plants in the fabric based pots.

The Vanilla Kush baby has broke ground, and as soon as there are 2 sets of true leaves, I'll put the tent into 12/12; does anyone have opinions on those 3 day darkness periods (or whatever)?

Also the single A-Train that was in soil without OC+ was repotted with additional OC+ spiked soil -- since DocBud has proven you can't over-fertilize with the prills (barring crazy ass heat spikes and overwatering), I could see no downside to everything being in OC+ :)

I'll just post a new 'family shot' and the Vanilla baby, the rest are in my gallery

Zombo's Getting Grounded - Air Pots, Dirt and OC+

Thanks!

:Namaste::peace:

6:20AM - just a quick edit, flipped the tent to 12/12. Let the flowering begin!

Hey there Zombo! Im alittle surprised you went all Air Pots on us but it looks like they're gonna work better for you! Curious to see the baby Vanilla Kush go a full 12/12 schedule with the rest of the family. Noticed everything is becoming more green hehe, is this from your cal-mag adjustment? I can't tell from the pics, but are the clones still there? Keep up the good work, your grow is really starting to take off, hope you get nothing but females!:blunt:

Dude i am pumped!

You're pumped? Think how I feel! :yummy:

I was gonna take flowering cuts at about day 20 of flower (yeah, pushing it), but made a decision; I'll flower everything in the tent, no cuts taken. "But Zombo, why in the fuck would you do that?", you ask....

Well, that way I can grow all to maturity, see which finishes the nicest, highest quality, ascertain the finish time, check how the cure goes -- then, most importantly, find out the quality of the meds, and if those particular strains meet the needs of my patients and myself.

Once I have that, screw it, I'm buying regular beans of the strains I want, then doing a seed run -- after that, 12/12 from seed, in Air Pots, under LED's, with soil (and amendments as I learn this) and OC+. Sound like a plan?

Of the nine plants in the tent currently, there are two that are still not sexed, the Bagseed and the Vanilla Kush. If either ends up male, I have my spare 2'x2' tent with a 63w LED unit in it. I'll just harvest pollen, then pollenate select buds as the others mature. I'm getting like DocBud in once regard for sure: I'm a fan of growing from seed, clones have been hit or miss, and I've never NOT gotten bugs from cuts, so screw that. Well, then add the soil and OC+, too --Doc's got it right; you don't have to buy into the hype of specialty nutes and potions to grow cannabis. It's simple.

Environment. Once you have that under control, the rest is a breeze.

:peace:

I'm with you brother. I don't buy clones, I make my own. That way I know exactly what I have going on.

It sounds like you're set for a few rounds of trials, me too! As soon as this grow is complete I will try another angle on getting the most out of these girls. I put a couple of my extra clones into some hempys (I know, not dirt, but as close as I get) and they are taking off, so it looks like I will start up another tent with about 8 hempy buckets under LED. Not an intended test, but I will see what produces better (per sq ft of space).

Yeah, experimentation is where it's at - I scored a zip of that same bagseed that's growing in my tent, and cleaned it all. The payoff? 80 or so beans, a third or so which are huge fucking mutant tiger striped magic beans! :)

I think the next run is all bagseed, pull a male for pollen and cull any others, then see how the girls finish up - I was playing Scrabble the other night and had letters on my rack that were a bitch to work with. Then my stoned brain said, "That would make a ripper strain name!":

H G G G R R X <--- tiles translated to ---> HoggerX

Maybe this bagseed strain will be a parent

Great grow you got going on here! My previous grow I used airpots and noticed each time I water the plants, the water comes running out of the holes. Do you get the same problem? If not, how do you go about solving this?

Well, I packed the soil in tight as it says on the website for them, and when I water, I start in the center near the stem, then work my way out as the soil gets wetted. I get most of my leakage from near the bottom of the Air Pots, honestly. I think that's why you're getting water out the holes - soil's not packed in enough.

Hope this helps!

Fuck dude, forgot to reply to you, sorry! You know, the more I saw grows completed with these, the more I was convinced that these were going to be what I wanted to use -- growing more plant than you'd expect for pots their size, the air pruning to rock out the root system and the ease of use and post grow cleaning, what's not to love?

The Ca-Mg dose adjustment was what was needed for sure, I think I could even notice the difference within 12 hours of doubling it and watering them all :morenutes:

The only plants in the tent right now that are not sexed are the bagseed and the Vanilla Kush, if either comes out male, no biggie, spare tent + 63w LED = pollen harvest :yummy:

Last pic of everyone before my next post:

Hey zombo just caught up!
i agree with docbud that FFOF has a tendency to have a zinc iron def... kinda looks like you might still have a little prob with the zinc..... the yellowing that you saw was a magnesium def and thats y its getting better now..... thats the ROOTS O..... it is NOTORIOUS for CAL MAG def......
im just glad your not using their nutrient line.... they are giving out free neem due to the fact that their nutes breed Flys..... they put out a public apology.... it is also a Really weak mix
glad your plants are getting over the Def.
lookin good
got to love the vanilla kush
keep it up bro

Thanks bro, I appreciate the feedback and the props! :high-five:
The sole nutrients in this grow are the OC+ and the Cal-Mag in the water, that's it. DocBud has started a trend that I like: simple growing, simple methods, inexpensive with the result of above average, or even top-shelf meds.

I've decided that the early stages of flower are boring to share, so weekly updates with or without pics are where it's at; when they start really showing, then I'll post the porn ;)

OC+ and CalMag is going to produce great meds, as long as the environment is good.

However, the simple addition of Snowstorm, and a few waterings with molasses will make them even better....total cost for a garden your size about 30 bucks or less.

Wanna blow minds and gain a reputation with your friends? Get a bag of quality compost and top dress twice with it.

I've used Bu's Blend, from Malibu Compost and now I'm trying "mango mix" from Grab n Grow. The latter company was started by a marijuana grower, but now they've branched out into a commercial soil/compost operation.

The big debate I'm having right now is which is better? What I've just described, or all organic soil methods. It's gonna be a close competition.....but the way you're doing it is easier and cheaper.

Funny you mention molasses, Doc. I was just reading about its use in organic teas and just as an all-purpose adjunct during flowering; some people like using it on every watering, others just a few times during the bloom, others even just the last two weeks. I'm still debating how I'll use it.

I'll look into some local composts, I have been also considering getting an inexpensive composter and making my own too!

I stumbled across Scientific Soils at a local dispensary, the owner claimed that he didn't have to add a single nutrient during his whole last grow; I'm finding that hard to believe, especially at $20/bag (if I buy 5 bags)....might be worth a try though, I've got plenty of seed stock and will be ordering more one gallon Air Pots; I started a thread to see if anyone had heard of it.

I've gotten braver, and decided that doing periodic seed runs, and doing 12/12 from seed is going to be best for my needs - it's easy to cull males, and DocBud's tips for germinating females will hopefully help minimize that. All I can say is that after my dabbling in hydroponics, I'm glad I have it as a tool in my arsenal, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be predominately an indoor soil grower from here out out.

:high-five:

if you have the room to make a mother... going 12/12 clones is faster and will get larger colas you can get 8-9 harvests with no mercy clones and 6-7 with no mercy seeds just Fyi
by the end of my grow you will have a good comparison of seed vs clone no mercy

Well, I may take a flowering cut or three and see how they do; I don't really have the space for a mother - should I choose to do clones, they'll be flowering cuts taken at about day 15 or so.

Something about growing from seed appeals to me; I can't place it yet. Maybe it's that I'm participating in the birth, life and death of a plant versus granting her immortality?

:Namaste:

i agree i like seed as well thats why i like to breed!
i generaly end up doing both clones and seeds when i do a no mercy as it stagers the grow a little do what feels right to you. :thumb:
