Xlr8's Quest For The Best - 2012

Hi Cultivator!

First, thanks for subbing to the new journal. :thanks:

I do weekly reservoir changes. I could probably go longer, but I feel most comfortable with weekly.

In veg, I flood just enough to keep the roots damp, yet not so much that they don't want to keep searching. At the beginning of veg, that's once a day for me. As they get a little bigger, twice a day. Once the roots have good development through the sides and bottom of the netpots, 3 times a day in veg.

In flower, I flood every 3-4 hours during lights on, and last flood is an hour before lights off. Not ideal to send them into the dark with soaking wet feet. I never flood in the dark, as it can cause nutrient salts to build up on the roots since the plants aren't uptaking much in the way of nutrients during the dark cycle.

As far as Bud Ignitor, I'm sure it's good, but I'm super impressed with Blue Planet's nutrients and additives. He now has a new "early bloomer" product I'll be using in the future, as well as a bloom booster for later in the bloom phase called "Liquid Blue" (I've used this in a few grows already with much success). I've gotten excellent results with his products, and will be using Blue Planet's products exclusively in this grow. In part, because I believe in them whole-heartedly, and in part because I want to be able to provide honest, uncomprimised feedback on these new products when I use them.
I appreciate the tip though! :high-five:

Thats where we differ is in veg. I flood mine 3 times a day right from the get go. During flower I flood 4 times. I do kinda flood while it's dark. I start the flood 15 minutes before the lights come on. I also flood for half an hour and not 15 minutes. Then again, I'm running a lot more pots then you. My last flood is an hour before the lights go off.

Awesome!
Glad I didn't miss this..
We're almost at the same stage right now. I'm at 17 days flowering today.
Ive been thinking about going Hydro soon too, so it will be nice to compare my current grow to yours.

Oh and thanks again for your help with my sig!!

I'm Subbed!!

Phew... just made it for the second row. I'm small, I need to be near the front :)

I absolutely love your journal style Xlr8, my main regret that much is inapplicable or over my head as its hydro, but its all fascinating and full of useful information nonetheless! Someone to aspire to in terms of plants, journal and conduct *attempts a curtsy/does clumsy curtsy*.

I do agree with Giga though, bring us along for the ride earlier next time, then we really get to know your girls. Won't take us long to bond but we got lots of love to give ;)

Can't wait to see more, and those photos are wonderful. I really love good photos, and these definitely are.

Speak soon my friend!

:thanks: :Namaste:

Looking good.:goodjob: ph meters I have to agree. Nothing is made to last. So I have decided to purchase Bluelab Ph pen. Previous ones HM 80 lasted about 18 months, HM 200 lasted about 13 months.

Right now I've got 6 chronic, 6 Ray's choice and 6 oceans 12. In veggie 3rd week. Will share pics soon. Thank you for your help.

I was thinking along the same lines. in my wilma system i fed 3 times day in veg for 15mins then 4 during flower amd also first feed 15mins before lights on. I'll be putting air stones in each pot so i guess wen the roots are deveolped i can leave flood periods for any period. i was just wondering how other folk do it, and the best way to start them off. i use pretty big well rooted cuttings so that will help too.

I use the blue lab combo meter and they are great. However i would still recommend changing ph probe every 12 months as they do have a limited shelf life. But if u store correctly and keep clean u can easily use longer. I just like to be certain my equip is accurate as poss as it saves loads issues in long run.

Subbed

awww... first in the second row...

Looking great though from where I'm sitting! Can't wait! HEY!! DOWN IN FRONT!

Just glad you are here, Jandre. Whatever row! :high-five:

Hey, when you get your Grow journal started, PM me with the link, and I'll sub up so you can ask questions and get answers in the thread! I'm sure a lot of the other growers on here will as well.

Thank you VERY much jandre, this means a lot to me when it comes from such excellent growers like you man, all of you...
I feel honoured ...

Unfortunately, this is not going to happen before spring, I'm still in the "collecting stuff" proccess !!!
I 'd say I'm at 50% right now !!!
Damn crisis .... lol

Thank you jandre !

I'll be there too, Billy - just let us know! I'm perpetually still in the collecting stuff phase (in addition to growing)... :)

I really am able to ramp up to more frequent floods pretty quickly, but the key is aeration, so as long as everything is well aerated, more frequent floods in veg are probably fine, too. Also, you do have much higher intensity lights which will dry the medium more quickly, making more floods appropriate. Everyone has something a little different about their set-up or environment, so there are no real one sized fits all answers, except that you want to keep them moist and aerated. In the end you just want to get those pots bursting with roots heading into bloom, whatever that takes! :)

I'm sure it doesn't matter that one of your floods is slightly before "lights on", but in general I no longer feel floods at "night" are ideal, but I've done them without significant problems, too. As I understand it, you want to flood just long enough to fully drench the root zone of all your pots - it must take longer than 15 minutes to fully flood your pots? For smaller systems 15 minutes is usually just a limitation due to mechanical timers.

Wow, looks great! Very nice job.

Ms. Fox?!?! Holy cow, it's been years! I couldn't believe it when I first saw your post - when did you come back around? I've missed you being here. I thought I was in an old journal or something, haha. Love that you are back!

Oh, and :thanks:!

For those who dont know, Ms. Fox was an early mentor/inspiration to me here, and one of the first people I met after I joined 420mag and started learning to grow. She was a big part of the spirit that still exists here, that thing that makes this place special. Not to mention, she's truly a superfox, haha! ;)

You really brought a smile to my face - its fun seeing peeps from back in the day. I was much shyer back then, and lurked more, but you helped me out with some things for sure. :)

Are you still growing steadily? I sincerely hope you stick around - thanks for subbing, and the props!

subbed..but its a bit wierd starting the journal after almost everything is done...doesnt feel like coming along for the ride, but rather like watching you go by in a super slinky sports car and beeping as you pass, lol =)

Gig and Fluffy, these plants were journaled in more detail in my previous journal, up to this point.
But, that journal was somewhat perpetual and had gotten up to 139 pages or something... and it was feeling a bit bloated. If you'd like to see the earlier part of this grow in more detail, Gig, it starts about here: "Xlr8's hydroponic adventures and photos from the garden". Fluffy, you've been there and you know these girls - this is a continuation, but I should have made that more clear my dear! :)

Also, I'm going to be keeping the gals on a pretty strict BPN diet the rest of the way, including some cool new products, and didn't want that to get buried in the old journal. Plus, it's only about 2 1/2 weeks into bloom, so the bud porn is really just starting - lots left to see! ;)

Lastly, I know from experience that a lot of people hate jumping into a journal that's already over 100 pages, and I thought it'd be fun to pull some new/different peeps in for the rest of the show (like you for example, Gigabane - glad you're here!). :)

Hi Vick -

You are sure welcome. Glad it helped, and thrilled to have you along! We're both just getting to the good part of the grow. :)

Fluffy, you rock. You are a very sweet person and always brighten things up wherever you are. :thanks: for all the kind words.

I should have made it more clear that these plants were the same as the ones I'd started toward the end of my last journal. See my other post to you and Gigabane as to why the new journal. I really should have done it sooner, but was a bit lazy and just kept going with the journal I already had.

I may keep this one going another round after this is done as well, we'll see... Sure glad you came over to the new one! :)
