Autos v. Photos - A 5x5 No Rules Fight for Yield: A Jon & NickHardy Gig

Wow, the things I read in this journal. :yahoo:

Nick, you certainly are ebullient over the last couple days. I’m loving the positive vibes.

I agree with @Bill284 (go figure, lol) - if we don’t care who wins, we can shift to sharing input on good and solid 5x5 techniques. Thing about my style that is lost on many is how EASY it is. It is much much easier than it may look, not a soul here couldn’t grow my way if they wanted to. My thing is easy, low tech, and (I like to think) based entirely on logic and what I know to be true. It’s actually based on Bill’s in part, so I personally would argue his and mine are closer in style than you may think. And there are 2 trillion growers here better than both you and I who might chime in too. Anyone can use my blueprint, it’s cake. By design! Which is not to say there’s not a ton of intuition and reading plants involved, but that’s more experience than basics. And you and I (and I’m sure others) have some rather significant philosophical differences in play as well. These factor significantly. For example: your take on training vs. mine. I believe (philosophy) that consistent buds in a flat canopy will produce better all around yield in a tent situation every single time without fail. You do not. These beliefs affect our choices, obviously.

So yeah, I’m down, whatever you want to do is okay with me. I’m easy and already made the point here I was looking to make. However, I ain’t flipping a coin to take a 50/50 shot at having to go to Beantown, so if we’re gonna not worry about who “wins,” how can we figure that rather important little detail out?

@CaptainLucky , I’m already planning my next grow, and I plan on at least one tent of sativas. I know you grow a lot of them and I was wondering if you might feel like tossing in your two cents on some specifics about sativas you’ve found? Like, do they prefer more or less light, are they generally heavier feeders, how do you keep them healthy for so long, etc - that sorta stuff maybe? I know it would benefit me, and probably others as well if you’re up for it (no pressure, lol!). Thanks!

Fluid journals. Such fun.

Mine too you ignore the gas!

Ebullient?

Yeah maybe? Probably just a touch of the local rum and excellent weed.

Little staycation with the woman I adore and an afternoon looking at Poo Island, I got problems (99 is just a Monday morning in my game!)

But I recognize 99.9% of the time how much lucky there is in my life. We all got heaps of lucky just to be here so yeah, ebullient, cherishing the moment and sanguine when it ain’t great.

Nick

My desk sunset view is gonna be gone soon -
But I’ve had three years of it and the Russian kid who’s house that is said he’s gonna cry when his view is gone because the next person builds in front of him in 6 months.

Life moves on!

Bean Town, eh?

Me, Affleck and Damon and the other Southie guys got something to say about dat - just as soon as Jennifer Lopez stops spamming me with selfiies

🤣

How many times have you witnessed an actual ufo - one you absolutely knew was alien technology in front of your eyes, in your range of travels? Ever?

Sativa's are overall low feeders and a little bit harder to keep happy than Indica dom. They are often easier to root. Internodal length and stretch is often higher with Sativa's.

They are good monitor plants since they're more sensitive than others and a good starting point to learn about plant nutrition. You won't get away with as many things growing heavy sativa dom.

Cheers!

Jon’s Tent Nutes Check

If anyone is keeping score besides me, we are on the cusp of week five of flower on 6 of the 8 tent plants, with the Apple Fritter on week three and the Trizkit on week one. There are a few differences. Nutes systems in play are either Cyco, Remo, or organic (GeoFlora or California Super Soil).

Organics (Northern Lights, Cherry Pie, Skywalker): final @GeoFlora Nutrients application on Monday for the NL. EWC every other watering. Kelp and Mackerel every third watering. RGR every ten days. Obviously the two in California Super Soil do not get GeoFlora.

Cyco Plants (2 Gorilla Cookies): both on same schedule, Cyco by the book (Advanced feed chart for hydro/coco), res change to week 5 and switch to week five is Monday. Calmag (non Cyco) is at 7 mg/gallon. Begin to tail off on that after week five.

Remo Plants (Bruce Banner #3, Trizkit, Apple Fritter): appropriate weeks noted above. Calmag is 5 mg/gallon of mine and 5mg/gallon of Remo MagNifiCal for the BB, 7 mg of each for the other two. All other ingredients are at 8mg/gallon. I do not go to 10mg with Remo as prescribed.

I believe that’s about where we’re at, he said in terrible English.

Thanks! I failed to mention these will be semi organic.

Although I can’t match Nick for sheer physical environment, we are not without our charms down here in MAGA Central, I mean Florida.

This is my latest grow room buddy, and this guy is pretty spectacular:

Staying out of politics is a good thing generally but especially when its another country’s politics!

But yeah - plus that Rube you got down there got kicked out of the Maga lovefest 😂

View from my hotel balcony Friday. Coincidentally the “safe” word that night 🤣

So we got an improvement in PPFD

1508 PPFD.

I got loads more on this - been messaging the light company for the last hour because:

The 3 drivers are marked 400w 400w 50w

They are all outputting around 55-56v which is correct.

But its a 1000w light? You only get to 850w, yeah?

I sorta understand the why. Not certain.

But he just said in our long Whastapp you should get more than 2000 PPFD in the middle. Matches what I got on a reading I posted in another journal 2200 PPFD

He’s the marketing guy. Not a techy. They’re gonna fix it somehow. Whether its a new driver unit or a whole new unit not sure yet - its all very friendly.

Guy is home with is family and still trying to look after me at 9pm on a Sunday night and ai’m their smallest customer ever 🤣

I’m still buying another light off them - agreed it last night. One of their 650w ones, Wastei has the same I think. The price they’re giving me - seriously you couldn’t buy a second hand 200w light off Amazon for it.

We chatted last night - they aren't interested in the home grow market and so me plugging the brand here is pointless - and I’m not offending them by discussing the light breaking, I’m just not their market. When you buy commercially they give as part the price for your twenty light minimum order full units as spares. So when stuff does break you swap it while they send you a replacement.

Many off the people reading this likely grow under lights they actually make - more home/prosumer brands buy from them and relabel and charge more to cover the spend on marketing and advertising.

Stuff breaks. Their response been mostly great.

I’ve had sponsor lights break too. All good.

But the big thing here is 1500 PPFD?

Yeah never wanted anymore than that - the floodlight on as well adds 50 - maybe I’ll switch that back on for shits and giggles.

But no one growing in a 5x5 needs more than 1500 PPFD

Really its toppy even with Co2

Can’t change the past - I’m not going to ease these plants into their new found light wonderland. The gas is back on and the EC is gonna be 3.0 for the next two weeks and we’re gonna be eleventeen here on out

See what we got left in the tank.

Game on.

Nick

Never. And I spent a lot of time camping out under the stars with no one within literally hundreds of miles. Africa travels.

Thought I saw some about 6 months back from that same view above, my desk view but it was a Starlink launch.

The international space station is cool to see.

If you have kids or are just a big kid like me its fun to see when it will next be near tou and check it out.

I went to a really totally average free High School in England. No fancy schools or even any qualifications other than I guess a high school diploma for me.

Probably why my spelling is so shit. 😂

Actually its not but anyway.

So my school was called Chichester High School For Boys. They merged it now with the girls one.

Tim Peake Britain’s only male astronaut was 5 years above me. Year 7 he was my classes 6th form guide (I’m not sure he remembers this) and I was in the Cub Scouts and well accustomed to camping and stuff so like head boy. I also told his fave teacher in my first month who was the religious studies teacher to FO because - hehe.

But I got us disqualified from the overnight orienteering game.

Actually I was 11 years old and he was 17 so him taking my advice to break the rules is really on him. We crossed a road and cut across a field which was private land. I said rationalise it - we’re already in last place because that kid kept crying scared of the dark, so maybe we short cut over the road and that field we can catch up a bit we won't win but we won’t come last.

He agreed.

We got busted and disqualified. We were like really red hot favourites too. But yeah - I’d rather get disqualified than lose aged 11 🤣

So he went to space for 6 month in later life and I live on a tropical island growing Blackberry Moonrocks! I’d love go to space though

But yeah he took like some school card up to the ISS - serious cool. I reiterate it was the most average school ever and you look the Wikipedia page - Steven Seagal did not go to that school! Some kid in my year put that there like 30 years ago.

😂

Only thing I agree with Elon Musk about I reckon is - good chance we live in a sim. i’m ok with it.

You can only play the game in front of you.

Sativas are greedy for light and the more you give them the better they like it. I found some don’t like nutes and burn ez but others like Durban Poison love it. So it’s prolly a strain specific thing. If you want to grow them big then stick with a big enuff container and veg them long. Anything else? Happy growing n Happy St.Paddy’s Day. CL🍀

Sorry this needs more love 😂

We had a leak out of the bathroom next to our flower room. I’d been saying “sounds like we have a rat in the roof void space” for a week or two and rats freak me out. Not much does - but rats yeah.

So while the builders are rebuilding the flower room second time they also fix the slow leak water pipe and are running the Co2 pipe and electric cable up the dry riser for the grow stuff there is a massive bang and girly screams.

I run downstairs scared shitless.

& Co is shouting at like 6 Thai male builders for a bag - The guys doing the crying because one of the above pictured - call it a salamander, probs wrong, but they’re about 2ft long and leathery over a smalller gekko.

& Co shouts again - get away honey this not your kind of prob-leeem!

Someone gives her a bag and she scoops said critter who made a noisy fight of it (they sound like birds) and all the big tough builders leap back as she walks the violently shaking bag in hand outside

Funny AF

I shrugged, just looked the builders with a smile and walked upstairs again.

They knew 🤣

I’d been scared AF if a a 2ft long lizard too! But yeah - I got & Co for that! Who you got boys?

Credit where credit is due - they did thank her lots.

🤣

Always good to marry a reptile wrangler!

It's so weird I read this as "sickth form" rather than the American way (sixth form). Indoctrination I tells ya!
Hmmm…

Generally always good to marry a reptile wrangler, yep. But half a dozen Russian ladies got arrested here last week for working illegally at a Snake Park last week. Now I’m not saying its a euphemism for something else for sure but I know of water/elephant/tiger/crocodile/go kart parks (and a monkey island - whoop!) but never heard of a snake park until the ladies got arrested.

OK - either I got a clue to Mrs She’s original local English accent from the sixth form/6th form comment or - more than likely, as I am with plant tickling - I got no idea 😂

Elaborate?!

😅

The folks from the UK I know say sickth rather than sixth. That's about as complicated as it gets. I read yours the way I hear it at home. There's no such think as a "6th form" grade in the states!
Yep - people in some parts of England say it like that.

So maybe I know now which bit you know best!

Within say a 50 mile square radius 🤣

🎶 Down in London Town

SW1P for me with a bit of WC1 - 200 yards from Big Ben and above the Hard Rock Casino in Leicester Square. Oh Hampstead Heath when I briefly had too much money aged 23 🤣

How I roll - government and casinos - casinos generally better run.

With photo skills such as those advanced focus effects I shoulda entered the contests but I forgot, they should invent a reminder app for phones, be a killer app!

Its only one hour after lights on, it will cool a little and get a little more humid bringing the VOD down to around 1.5 in an bour or two.

Best I got. The buds tiny.

Such is life! Grow’s still fun 🤷🏽
