First Time Auto, First Time DWC, Northern Lights

Yesterday's roots, a bit of staining but I think that's the nutrients, the plant looks great. Also a couple of the bigger ones are fishboning, so I think all is well.

Ashburn and Mullins.

Ashburn's leaves looked a bit curled a couple of days ago, I figured wind stress from the fan being on 24 hours a day so I shut it off for a day and a half.

Ashburn looks a bit better today but not as perky as Mullins, I'm guessing it's due in part because of the medium she's in, fed twice a day where as Mullins eats all day.

Mullins looks great, praying to the light it seems inspite of the partially stained roots, which I think is from the nutes, but I did pick up some 3% hydrogen peroxide just in case.

Her ph at res change was 5.11 on Saturday, 5.47 on Tuesday and today it is 5.90, so she is feeding and doing well.
I really need to check the ph daily, and I ordered another ppm pen which should be here Monday.

On with the show.

Mullins res change day.

Res on Saturday the ph was 5.11 to start and was at 5.84 in a week.

Same as the last change
5 ml (teaspoon) each of Floramicro and Floragro.
Ph 5.55

Roots look good, I realized that the color from the last pictures was shadow, it showed again but not to the eye so I retook the picture, no color.

I'll probably up the nutes to half at the next res change.

Mullins is starting to out grow Ashburn.

On with the show.

Looking Good. Roots look really healthy and a nice white colour. Looks like your ph is staying stable which is great you must have your nute strength dialed in. Keep it up your doing great.

Great start to your grow buddy. I'm a DWC farmer and have 2 suggestions. Do with them as you will.

Optimum PH range for dwc ...IN MY OPINION... is 5.8 to 6.2 below 5.5 or above 6.5 your plant will suffer. I like to cycle from 5.8 up to 6.2 then rez change or PH back down to 5.8 It works for me.

The shot of your bucket & roots showed me big fat air bubbles coming up to the surface and a tiny little air pump next to your bucket.

IMG_20191005_101900149.jpg

That's the inside of my cloner. See the smaller bubbles and how it looks like it's boiling? That's the kind of airflow you need. I would upgrade to a 6 inch round air diffuser disc for your bucket and a minimum 6w or 15 lpm air pump with a 5/16" or 3/8" air line.

And yes GH nutes can stain the roots a bit.

Lookin great. Keep it up. :goodjob:

They look good, a new ph pen will be a good investment
Thanks PW!

Thanks, hopefully my ppm pen arrives tomorrow so I can start tracking their feed properly.

Thank you for the information, I'll certainly be upgrading after these 2 are done, I'm liking dwc growing so far, I may add another bucket for the next grow.
It's good to know that I'm on track.

Happy growing everyone!

On with the show!

While waiting for my ppm pen to arrive I tracked 3 days of ph
5th = 5.55
6th = 5.64
7th = 5.98

If I'm correct that tells me that she is feeding.

The ppm pen arrived today and I tested it in a cup of tap water.

13 ppm
27 ec

So the readings from the res today for Mullins

Ph 5.98
Ppm 141
EC 300
21.6°

Is there any math I'm supposed to be doing with these readings? Per litre? Or just record what the pen registers?
Should the readings for ph and ppm be done to the water before nutrients go in? Which I have been doing anyways, I noticed that the ph drops once nutrients are added. I've been a bit lazy ph adjusting but I made sure and adjusted properly for the other plants feed today, I'll be sure to adjust Mullins own accordingly now.

On with the show!

Damn that's some clean tap water @ 13ppm. My tap comes out 400+ ppm.
Which is really surprising because the city's supply is under renovation, we've been diverted to a different lake source across the harbour. Maybe they've stepped up their system lately without notifying the citizens.

Tonight's before lights out

Mullins praying to the light!

Hey Canuckush, They certainly are praying! Looking good mate. Good info concerning ph, like Fastbeaverbuds and Pennywise said try to keep between 5.5-6.5 and you’ll be fine.

I came across these 2 regarding ph and ppm in dwc.

I don't know about that though, about letting the ph drift up to 7 as acceptable, seems like asking for trouble.

It'll be interesting what my ph and ppm does this week now that my ppm pen has arrived, daily tracking has begun.

On with the show!

Tracking update

For the first time the ph had dropped over 3 days.
7th - 5.98
8th - 5.89
9th - 5.68

The ppm over the same days
141
135
129

Res temp
21.6
19.4
19.1

The tent temperature is 15 - 16°

I thought the ph was supposed to rise as the ppm drops?

She looks healthy.

20191009_231524.jpg

Roots look good but got tangled and hung up on itself.

20191009_231553.jpg

A little staining but probably from the nutes?

I will be upping the nutes on the next res change and adding calmag.

Plant looks really happy! Are the roots slimy at all? if not I'm sure the staining is nothing to worry about. Your ph is in range still and sounds like your feeding at the right strength because you ppm is dropping so I think your ok.

Thanks, no slime, res is clear and clean.
