Hortus Goes Auto - Crystal M - Westcoast OG - Cash Crop - Black Gold & More

Hortus

Well-Known Member
Gday 420 here's my new journal. I'm going auto this time round I've got 9 named strains from reputable breeders and 15 seeds from a mate.

The strains are

1 Grapefruit by fastbuds
1 Northern lights x big bud by world of seeds
1 Black gold by cream of the crop
1 Crystal meth by fastbuds
1 Cash crop by cream of the crop
1 Choc matic by dr krippling
1 White widow xxl by autodinafem
1 Narcotherapy by cream of the crop
1 West coast OG by fastbuds

^^^ all bought from herbies!^^^

Then there's the to be confirmed strains...

5 Pineapple express
5 Autoblueberry
5 Criticalmass

I started them in ph'd water for 36hrs or so then sowed them in a none fertilised compost in 7cm pots and placed in the incubator within 2 days all of the confirmed seeds had sprouted. Where as the unconfirmed seed only 3 of the pineapple express seeds had germinated.

Seedlings are now roughly 6 days old

From what I've seen on here it's best to get them into there final pots asap so I transplanted the sprouted seeds to the aqua pots I'm using. I still need to find out how much these things hold lol

The grow space is a 140/140/200cm black orcid tent. Currently I've got 2 300w cfl's in there over the seedlings but will add 2 600w dual spectrums in a weeks time.

Also need to rig up a better extraction system cause atm it's pretty much none existing... I plan to rig up 2 air cooled hoods to decent extractor/filter in the loft.

Soil wise I'll be using westlands jacks magic with perlite 75%/25% and will only feed them ph'd water untill the last 6weeks of there lives where I'll add some bloom boosters.

Temps are between 60f and 74f with humidity around 50%.

If I've missed anything out please say and also please feel free to add suggestions or point out anything I'm doing wrong :Namaste:

Nice

Thanks guys and welcome to the journal:passitleft:

Just installed the first air-cooled 600w, running into some slight temp probs but nothing to serious hopefully I'll have it sorted when I add a second extractor tomorrow. Here's some individual pics of the seedlings

And a pineapple express seedling

When I was last in the tent I noticed another PE had sprouted and the first critical mass so I'll get them potted up in a day or two.

Very nice setup. Cant wait to get my tent and stop closet growing.

Thank you sticky :thumb:

Closet grows aren't to bad im still running a small one myself with 2 "amnesia" bag seed clones that are 3 weeks off from harvest. Hoping for 300g but more would be better :amen:

A little sneak peek before I head to work looks like the Choc matic has some issues I need to look into. Also fitted one of the 600w, in doing so brought some friends for the autos untill my second closet becomes free.

DSC_12123.JPG
Looks like spider mite damage! Haven't seen any mites on said plant or any in the space I'm going to get some neem oil to help on that front as a prevention.

Managed to plant out a "amnesia" clone outdoors for a little side project. She's in a great location will receive atleast 10hrs of good sun daily till fall. I loosened the soil around the grow, gave it a good soak and dunked the her in.

I'll check on it again in 2 days hopefully the slugs, rabbits or deer don't find it before I place a tree guard around it and slug pellet the surrounding area.

Update day 12

All the seedlings are doing great apart from one the 'Choc matic' seems to have some sort of streaking through its leaves may be a virus I'm unsure atm.

And the rest ate doing great!

And the critical mass that sprouted

DSC_12492.JPG

I had some real trouble with heat at the start, since then I've added more fans and a couple of extra extractor fans so the temps have now stabilised to around 70f lights off to 80f lights on. Still feeding only ph'd water but thinking about adding cal mag and bio silicone to help growth.

So far I'm really happy with how this grow is going I'll be looking at some leds tomorrow so I may well be changing my light setup :goof:

Thinking I need to get some coloured labels to tell all these gals apart it's getting hectic with 10 strains lol

Here's a nasty little virus that I suspect may be troubling the Choc matic. Still not 100% so I'll continue researching :nomo:

Tobacco Mosaic Virus

Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) has been at the center of virus research since its discovery over a hundred years ago. TMV was the first virus to be discovered. Late in the 19th century, researchers found that a tiny infectious agent, too small to be a bacterium, was the cause of a disease of tobacco plants. It then took 30 years of work before the nature of this mysterious agent became apparent. In a Nobel-prize-winning study, Wendell Stanley coaxed the virus to form crystals, and discovered that it was composed primarily of protein. Others quickly discovered that there was also RNA in the virus. Then, many prominent structural researchers (including J. D. Bernal, Rosalind Franklin, Ken Holmes, Aaron Klug, Don Caspar, and Gerald Stubbs) used X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy to probe the structure of the virus.
A Helical Virus

Several structures of the whole tobacco mosaic virus are available in the PDB, including the ground-breaking one solved by X-ray fiber diffraction (shown here from PDB entry 2tmv), and a recent structure solved by analysis of many electron micrographs (PDB entry 2om3). The virus is composed of one strand of RNA (shown in red) wrapped inside a sheath of protein (shown in blue). The protein coat is composed of about 2130 copies of a small protein, which stack like bricks in a cylindrical chimney. The RNA strand encodes four proteins, which together orchestrate the life cycle of the virus. These include two proteins that replicate the viral RNA, a protein that transports the RNA from cell to cell, spreading the infection, and the capsid protein seen in the PDB structures.
TMV Infection

Tobacco mosaic virus is very stable, so stable that it can survive for years in cigars and cigarettes made from infected leaves. The viral RNA is infectious by itself, but the addition of a protein coat protects the RNA from enzymes that would destroy it. The protein coat poses a problem, however: it must be removed once the virus gets inside a cell. TMV uses two tricks to release its RNA. As with many viruses, TMV has a chemical switch that causes the protein to change when the environment changes. The capsid protein has several clusters of acidic amino acids that are stable outside of cells, where calcium levels are high, but repel one another in the low-calcium conditions inside cells. This is enough to loosen the first few capsid proteins, releasing the end of the RNA. TMV then uses ribosomes as the engines to finish the job. As the ribosomes move down the strand, creating the first set of virus proteins, they displace the remaining capsid proteins.

Info from another forum.

No no, she might be fine, it might have to do with it being a hybrid auto, my cash crop has yellow streaking, but check it, If chocolate has sativa in it, the leaf can be "marbled", it's a sativa characteristic. Although cash crop does not have any sativa in it, I'm assuming it's coming from the ruderalis which also can have "marbled" leaves. Another thing I've read was that using any cfls under 5400k can stress autos in seedling phase, sometimes turn them yellow.... hope this helps

Interesting I'll definitely look more into sativa characteristics. You metion about using a 2700k may stress seedlings I've got a dual spectrum cfl on the other side from where the Choc is I'm gonna rule that out all other seedlings look healthy.

I'll do a full update this evening on all the autos and few other treats for y'all (warning may contain bud porn)

What's up Hortus I thought I had subbed this journal already but I guess not. I've been really interested in getting some fast buds especially some crystal meth, lsd, mexican airlines, and their pineapple express, I can't wait to see how yours tun out

Hey brother chevy all that matters is your here now welcome to the auto journal:passitleft:

All of those strains you've mentioned are all on my list to grow I'm slowly getting there on that front. I've got alot of love for the team at fastbuds there strains are absolutely stunning that have been bred to perfection

I'll post a few links soon to my old journals incase anyone would like to see :thumb:
