McBudz Perpetual Journal

Hi McB.

School in session?

I don't know if you've covered this before, if so do you know where, would you mind explaining a little about this grow setup? Is this something you constructed?

My veg Closet

I had a bedroom closet that is a tad under 2x4 ft.

I made a bench with 1x3's (or whatever they are called) and plywood. I also made a ceiling piece that is support by legs so I had a firm piece of wood to hang lights and crap from. Dry wall sucks.

The "tray" is an under the bed tupperware storage thing I got at target ~ $12. It had good dimensions for my space. I dont use the whole tray but have the space if I need it. I veg a mom on 1/2 of it using half the lid as support.

The grates and small RO lines inside are used to keep the pots out of the puddle that wont drain. The container wasnt meant for this so I had to improvise by tilting the table towards the fill sitting (where everything drains to when the pump goes off) and using grates.

I bought a botanicare flood table kit ~ $15 from the hydro store. You get a 3/4 drain fitting and a 1/2 inch flood fitting. Drain connects to a 3/4 hose and sits in your res. The flood 1/2 fitting connects to 1/2 hose and to the fill pump sitting in the res.

Res Home - Depot $12- (make sure you one big enough to hold the volume of the table and then some so the pump stays submerged when the table is full.)

Cycle Timer (hydro store ~ $80)

And the light is a 2ft x 6bulb T5HO over the veg plants and an 8 x 23w bulb CFL ghetto chandelier over the mom.

Hope this helps

It absolutely does!

Just one follow up question please. You mention:

Grates I understand, what's the reference to RO line? I'm sorry if I'm just not thinking tonight, just didn't know this piece.

Thanks McB!!
Major props for the detail on this setup!

just 1/4 inch pvc line used for RO filters generally. I use a few short segments laying flat to help raise the grates up off the bottom of the tray. You can use whatever you need to use I just had it lying around. I only mentioned it because you can sort of see it with the grates.

Ahhh, that explains it perfectly!

Thanks Man!!!

Perfect, i was just wondering about your veg sysytem also.

Why that timer?

What are you doing for ventilation in the summer time?
any c02?

Hey McBudz did you ever get to try to change your light regiment in flower to actually see if all that 5 cycle sun stuff actually improved your harvest? I read you were interested in trying it a few years ago!

Doesn't have to be "that" timer but you do need a variable recycle type timer for flood tables. Have to be able to set an on time for 20 minutes or so and an off time in the 1-4 hours range. These timers get you that flexibility. Mine also senses between night and day so you can have different day/night settings. I don't use that feature though.

I use closed circuit venting for the lights to the outside and central air to help keep things cool.

I do not run CO2.

I did not. I was mostly interested when I was running only 400 watt lights and was researching it as an option to get the most out of the lesser light source. I upgraded my lights to 600's instead and have my perpetual schedule setup around 8 week flower times so trying that cycle would sort of screw with my current setup. I'd still love to see someone try it.

Much love.

Thanks for stopping by

I think that 'spread it around' thing is partly intended to influence posters to cultivate a wider circle of friends. The more people you know, and therefore rep, the sooner you can return to rep someone again, right? Keeps you from pumping someone gratuitously and makes the forum more active too. So clever, those admins.

OK. I dunno. I'm just high.

I love the home-made flood table. Back before I ever grew cannabis, maybe 4 years ago, I made a double flood table with 3/4" plywood, 2x4s and pond liner. There was a divider in the middle so that I could have dual setups. I grew kitchen herbs in the spare bedroom. And peppers. I used 1" PVC pipe to build rack to hang shop lights from. It was 8' long and 2-1/2 feet wide. Wow. Hadn't thought about that in a while. At some point, I gave it to my mentor, who cut it in half and used it in two locations. Still does actually.

Rambling again. In any case, I really can relate to DIY. I have the money to just buy a turnkey system, but I find that doing it myself is so satisfying. It seems like nothing I bring in here gets used without modification. Have you seen my AC? I have been thinking I should get the flood/drain going again instead of drain to waste.

Long way of saying I like your style McBudz. We would probably get along in the real world ... as long as you don't mind my babbling on and on ...

:peace:

Welcome to the McBudz Answer Hour...lmao.

Nice look at your DIY setup. Anyone can do that.

Tried to rep you but I got to spread some.

I really had to go DIY out of necessity due to there being no actual flood table that was made to my closet dimensions. I have the same issue fitting lights in there. I have something like 46.5 - 47" left to right and 22" deep to play with. I have found 47" inch "4 foot" floro fixtures but without having one to physically test the space with I'm not just gonna order and see. So I found the 2ft x 6 bulb fixture that fit over the half of it nicely. It leaves no room for another similar fixture but my CFL ghetto chandelier is doing a stellar job over there. It mostly maintains a mom but I can quickly convert and have 1 large table and use both light source to veg. Besides its nice to be able to adjust the 2 sides to different levels like I can today. 1 big t5 wouldnt really allow that.

I did once use a small 20"x22" hydro tray that was the bottom of a CyClone / DWC setup that were being sold all over the place for a while. I converted it to ebb/flood and it has since gone to the dumpster as I am beginning to packrat too much shit I'll probably never again use.

Anyways guys thanks for stopping by. Here are some pics of the left side of the tent. 7 weeks 1 day into bloom. I'll be harvesting next Thursday if all goes well. Clearex flush started yesterday.

Blue Widow, very hearty strain. I have done somethings to abuse these gals this time around and the BW never flinched. I have a 1/2 BW = 1/2 PE grow coming into flower next .. can't wait and then in the excloner are all BW so that will be a nice grow. I'm going to veg out as long as I can as I know these dont get too tall.

What to say? Words fail me brother.

Always got some of the finest buds around, right here.

Thank you SW

Definately some great bud porn brother. Gonna be a great day when that is dried and cured to be sure. So ya lookin to harvest once a month? Gonna be mighty busy with that. Excellant work, keep em coming.

Yup my setup is about once every 4 weeks give or take. I average 1 pound + a month Looking to optimize to get closer to 1.5 lb per month. That would be ideal for me. Need to find that one strain and genetic that will veg for 3-4 weeks from clone not be too bushy as they are tight packed in there. I'd like to see 2-2.5oz single colas :)

SO far the Blue Widow is promising. The 1 BW from the last harvest had a 2oz yield and was not very bushy. 12 plants like that and I'm looking at 1.5 pounds for the 1 side. Time will tell.

Listen budz, this is for your own good, YOU SUCK AT GROWING!
All i see is people telling you how awsome you are, I don't want you to get a big head.
Pass it on, tell pitviper he's an idiot, lol.

anyway, if i was to copy your veg setup, would it even be worth it to try to use CFLs to save some money? id be trying to veg 9-12 plants. if so tell me how you'd do it.

I don't know why, but that young strawberry blue a couple pages back is soooo pretty. maybe because she is so simetrical?

How it going McB,

I'm a long time lurker who just joined the site recently and have always admired your grows.

If you are looking for a good single cola plant I would suggest Paradise Seeds White Berry. I have not grown it myself but a buddy of mine did with fantastic results. He grew 25 of these on a square meter and yielded over an ounce each, right at 30 in total. The plants created virtually no side branching just one long fat cola. They looked like baseball bats with fan leaves growing out of them. It's interesting that it shares almost the same progeny as your Blue Widow(Blueberry X White Widow).
