i've been germinating my seeds now for three days and they have popped with the tap root showing......how long should i wait for the root to get 1/4" to 3/4"????????

if they are warm and in a dark place, they should get long enough to plant within 12 hours of the root popping out. Be patient, be gentle and be clean. Congratulations, and welcome to the forum!
I feel it is best to plant before the root pops. But since they have popped you need to get them in soil a sap. Be careful not to touch the roots and make sure they are oriented downward. Planting before the root shows is key to letting gravity tropism happen correctly for the root and for the root hairs to interface properly with the soil. Normally I would soak 12 hours and plant right away before seed crack. In this case the sooner the roots interface with soil and orient themselves the better.
