Zo's Cage Of Green - ZCOG Hydro Grow 2.0 - AK48 - Nirvana Seeds

What strain did you end up choosing to pop??

And wow that AK48 plant got quite the haircuts and she bounced back everytime amazingly. Love how the structure on her has been shaping up, she is going to have some massive colas come flower time!

Thanks for your comments, I originally popped a Juicy Fruit seed but i was very impatient and i damaged the tap root when it cracked out of the shell. I germinated a Sour Tangie seed 2 days ago so im currently waiting on it to sprout. It will most likely be in a seperate journal when it starts.

Sad to hear about the juicy fruit seed, but at least you have a Sour Tangie on the way!

Can't wait to see that new journal for that girl!

Update - 11/11 Was Day 1 for the Sour Tangie and a Aurora Indica X unknown . The tangie will get its own journal, while the mystery seed will join this current journal.
Veg Tent
Things are going as expected

The ak-48 plant was transplanted to a 5 Gal Gro Pro Injection molded nursery pot filled approximately 1/2 way with Grodan mini gro cubes. The Cubes need to be saturated in the same feeding solution you are using (if you are going to do this, make sure to adjust ph to 5.5, new rock wool tends to be slightly alkaline ) and allow 15-30 minutes to pass. Next I allowed the cubes to drain and filled the pot 1/2 way using the same method i used on my last up pot update.

Remember on 10/29 when i said "In 2 to 3 weeks the root system should look somewhat like the photo below. This is a photo of my root system on my first grow but you will see it wasnt the most effective use of my space.
20160624_014438.jpg

You will notice only 1/2 of the mini cubes have roots in them. The difference in this grow is the fully rooted 6x6 hugo cube sits on top of the mini cubes instead of being planted in them, helping me make the most of my media"

its safe to say things went as expected,
Nice white roots & no grocubes being wasted.

Aurora indica shaping up pretty nicely. I definitely think i will use this method with the Sour Tangie, the growth looks very uniform. I will top all 4 branches on the plant and defoliate down to the "New growth" . This will create 8 main branches from 4.

Northern lights #3 Is doing a great job as well, you may be able to tell from the photos but i accidentally broke the main stem and a side branch when bending branches. i "patched" the wound with clonex gel and now the main stem has a nuckle and similar to cloning roots are already popping out of the bottom of the cube faster than the other 2 plants.

So I've been trying to somewhat stunt the growth of NL #2 to allow pheno 3 to catch up as well as trying out some experimentation with this plant after seeing the results of the accidental break and heal on NL #3. I got a little carried away and doubt i will do this again, the plant is still getting over the shock and showing signs of stress (but you don't learn new things if you don't try. I will now let this plant heal and decide in about 2 weeks- 1 month if it is strong enough to continue.

Zo that AK makes me want to grow my 4 littles ones exactly like that, just brilliantly done man keep it up.

Thank you Pat, She is definitely shaping up nicely and should be ready to go into flower right at the end of November. I plan to let her stretch until thanksgiving, trim her one final time before flower then when she recovers after 4-5 days flip to 12/12. Over the next 2 weeks i will add more velcro plan ties to some of the branches to fill in the canopy better.

Ok Guys, as stated earlier the Sour Tangie Journal is now Live
Current - ZoGrows - Round 3 - Sour Tangie - MarsHydro Reflector 96 Led - VEG+BLOOM Feel free to join the third round.
This grow will be more dialed in and should go much smoother now that i have an idea on the type of lighting arrangement and training i want to do for the sour tangie. I plan to Flower the sour tangie under 4x Mars Hydro Reflector 96 Led lights in a 4x4 space(16 sq ft.) Each unit pulls 190W actual power draw a piece x4 = 760 Watts. 760/16 = 47.5 Watts per square foot. The Mars Website says each unit is comparable to a 250W HPS so in theory 4 Units placed strategically should give yields comparable to a 1000W HPS light.
47.5 Watts/ sq ft is in the ideal recommended range of 40-50 Watts per square feet.

Update - 11/17

Ok Guys So I forgot to mention, i have been using Real Growers recharge ever since i uppotted the Ak48 plant - It is not a fertilizer it is a microbial superpack otherwise known as beneficial bacteria. I learned about Recharge from "The Cap'n" a former member of this site after i saw him using it claiming its as good as heisenberg tea if not better without the brewing and the side by side comparison he did on 2 clones proved it "It's all in there. I don't know how they did it, but when I compare the ingredients I put in my tea, those same ingredients are in this RECHARGE jar. There is $100 worth of ingredients in this $29 jar, and there's no brewing needed. No special instructions. It's so easy, I don't know that I'll ever go back to making tea again."

Before i begin using recharge.
IMG_20161027_131609.jpg

12 Days later after using Recharge at "High performance application" every other feed. (Fertilizer feed --> 1/2 tsp per gallon of RO water --> Fertilizer --> Recharge --> Fertilize --> Recharge)

And i planned to begin my new nutrients on my sour tangie grow but since the last time you guys saw the girls all my plants have made the switch to Veg+Bloom Nutrients RO/SOFT All in one powder nutrients base and the garden and me cant be happier right now. With success nutrients i was dealing with a total of 10 bottles between veg and flower ( 9 success + superthrive )
20160525_221228.jpg
whereas with Veg+Bloom i'm only using the Base during veg and the "Shine" is the bloom additive.
IMG_20161117_192942.jpg
I simply follow the directions and measure out 4-6 grams to 1 Gallon of RO water
IMG_20161117_193113.jpg
and like magic the guys over at Hydroponic research have balanced the formula to come out right around 5.8 which is perfect for me growing in hydro. Shine will get added once flowering begins

The Ak48 plant didn't skip a beat getting transplanted. I could flip it to flower any day now but i will let her stretch out until thanksgiving/black friday trim her up then 4 or 5 days later send her to flower, the preflowers on her have plenty of white pistils shooting out.

Aurora Indica - Currently the 2nd favorite in the tent. The growth on this plant has been very uniform and quick. I defoliated heavily again as i said i would , I topped all 4 branches down to 1 node leaving only the 2 new growth tips, this will create 8 main colas from 4 main branches.

2 days later -
IMG_20161117_183536.jpg

Northern lights #3 - This plant has the dankest smell in the tent now, even though the ak has been vegging for much longer, when i bend branches or do training on this plant the smell is very pungent. The root structure is already stronger than the other 2 plants and should be ready for transplant in about a week.
IMG_20161117_184057.jpg

Northern lights #2 -Not worthy of an update, this plant is really struggling right now, it has 1 more week to "recover" or it gets culled.

Update -

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Ive been very busy with family the last few weeks so i havent had much time to update, nonetheless the garden is coming along nicely.

AK48 - When i was doing some LST i tied down the 2 highest branches and didn't realize i split the trunk down the middle, i treated the split with clonex rooting gel and the plant didn't seem to skip a beat.

As i stated in a previous update the AK48 has been pre flowering for well over a month. For size reference the pvc pipe you are seeing is 2x2 ft. I have decided once the pre flowers reach the edges of the pipe i will Flip to flower. The canopy was getting really dense so Again, We Defoliate. I know by now it seems like its getting old but i feel like this experiment is going exactly as planned. Here are some before and after photos.

Pre flowers -

All Fan leafs with a stem are removed and all growth removed leaving only 1-3 nodes depending on positioning in the canopy.

Northern Lights # 2 - This girl finally recovered around thanksgiving and was transplanted on friday, She should catch up soon.
IMG_20161129_110431.jpg

Northern Lights #3 - This plant is also preflowering heavily as well and could go into flower any day but i want to shape the structure better before i send it to flower. Both Northern Lights #3 and Aurora Indica were up potted, both now sit inside a 6x6 Hugo cube.

Aurora Indica - this plant has bounced back as expected since the defoliation on 11/17. There is currently 8 main shoots. I believe if i top all shoots 1 more time this will give me the structure im going for creating 16 branches from 8.

After defoliation on 11/17
