The new top-level Phototron has 36,000 lumen output I believe.

A 150-watt HPS at the top shining down would not be too bright. I don't know about a larger one.

It definitely looks like you'll harvest a few buds from it. REPs for sticking it out, that'll give people a real glimpse into the issues/capabilities of the unit if they are considering using one themselves.

Biggest issue with adding a HPS to the phototron is that the tron is made of plastic so it may literally collapse into a melted pile of goo!

oh i dont plan on actually doing it. just food for thought. i say fuck a phototron. it would be cool for a conversation piece in the living room. other then that. why even bother paying for one. you could buy a 400w switchable ballast and light setup for around 3 or 4 hundred dollars, why not go there and youll get why more and better buds anyways.

For me it was a cheap way to get the ball rolling. If you can pick one up cheap and it is a fun way to get your feet wet but it is very inefficient compared to a HPS lamp grow in terms of final yield.

Heh. Yeah the florescent bulbs don't have as good of a lumen to watt ratio as HIDs especially HPS lamps.

ok thanks everyone again for watching this grow. my first grow at that. i believe that today is day 91 since germ, day 62 flower. so i am getting close. let me know what you guys think. a lot of the hairs are starting to change.

ok so here are my clones froma fellow grower. theyre about 40 days in soil. been under a 250MH.

this is the one that wouldnt do shit forever, and well it finally has!! it is definitely purple haze, or as i call it purple chunk funk. its a good stone.

the new cuttings, they look a little rough, simply because i dont have a heat pad for them. i dont know the temp or rh in the dome. and its about 78* normally inmy room. and about 80* at the canopy level in the closet, so on the floor, or on top the DWC its still gonna be in the high 70s. and not enough rh. so these will be things to be fixed in the near future.

and for the other clones, they are some type of cross between northern lights, kali mist, and purple haze. some one grew all three at the same time, we bought the weed, and found seeds, so were not sure of what the mix is exactly, but my buddy has flowered and cropped all his plants, and thats how i know the purple is the purple. but were still not sure aboout the other, as they are completly different.

oh they are all just shy of 2' standing tall at about 20.5"

and for my final update. i got my new toy. a 400w switchable Lumatek ballast, a Xtrasun reflector and a Super HPS Hortilux Eye bulb.

And for my whole closet. After i crop the tron, i will be making one side veg the other flower. and i will use my 250w MH either to veg like 2 or 3 plants at one timeor just keep one or 2 mothers under it idk yet. well see.

haha yeah thanks man. but uh im not sure how long i have left. i dont have a microscope. ill be borrowing my buddys this week sometime. im guessing i have about another 2 to 3 weeks of nutes, then i cant flush so i week or 2 of plain water.. but well see. thanks for checking in too, late or not. those clones got a ways to go.

did your phototron come with instructions? i have heard that they were designed speciffically for growing mj, and when bought new, come with instructions...

I bought one about 10 years ago, and the instructions were pretty detailed, i mean you really had to keep an eye on those things, especially if you grew in the sphagnum(sp) moss that came with the unit, that and the 23 hour wet/1 hour dry cycle for watering...complex nutrient setup....much easier to just use soil and use it for a light box IMO

man thats cool. i always used to see these phototron things in the back of magazines. man its bigger than i thought, and those buds look diesel for flouro.

hey look delish but not ready to me. do you have access to a microscope? be good if you did, or a loop or a high magnification glass. then you could judge the real way using trichs. getting close though.

about your clones, I'd go spend 10 bucks and get a humidity dome with a tray insert that keeps the medium raised. this way you can leave a bunch of water in the bottom which will insure high RH without letting them sit in water. the temps sound good anyways. you want 70-80.

man, just wanna say again i am impressed by the phototron. nice work brother. just satisfied a very old itch. . . it's surprising what you don't notice even when its right under your nose.

wheelo - thanks man, yeah its still going. up until i crop anyways. yes i do have access to a magnifying glass. and i just looked yesterday and today, i checked like 5 different buds. some of the ones with the most red hairs, andsome of the top buds. most trichs are still clear/translucent. none are amber that i could find. and i definietly want the couchlock high, so im shooting for 70/30 or better yet 80/20 amber/milky. we shall see

also, i have a humidity dome, it was just off for the pic. but yes i do need/want a new tray with the insert. and a taller dome. but thats in the future, im still just practicing. the clones are already starting roots.

im having trouble with the DWC though, im thinking i may just take as many clones as possible off those 2 plants, and do it all in dirt. idk yet. we shall see.
