Grow Version 1.0 - Reserva Privada Hurricane - LED - DWC - Mainline

Hey thanks for stopping by and the compliments.

Yeah I agree a N tox issue does seem odd. I'm obviously not sure that's even what it is; N tox characteristics just seem to fit most with what I'm seeing here. Maybe it is a nute sensitive strain; no idea since this is my 1st grow. I think it's also worth considering how much defol I've done here; when they were bushy in veg I was close to 700PPM... Until heavy defol.

They have an odd smell up close... Very earthy, with a light undertone of chocolate and spice. Not what I was expecting, but the flowers are starting to look pretty tasty! :)

Camo
Thanks brother I appreciate it! Interestingly enough they look even frostier without the LEDs, under normal eye / light... Sometimes I forget just how much the LED throws off the true color, even with the method 7 glasses I have.

I didn't even think about defol effecting nute uptake. Less leaves so less nitrogen needed or something. Makes sense.

Sounds like they smell delicious. Chocolate spiced dirt. :thumb:

Hey man how is it going?

Well, sorry we couldn't figure out that N problem before one of us had to cut a plant down haha.

Your plants are looking awesome. Would you choose a short stocky strain like this again? Or do you think there is too many leaves to efficiently grow
this strain for mainlining all the time? Are you going to do another Mainline? Because I am and if you are I would like to talk to you about strains that you like or prefer for the mainlining. I know this is your first grow, but I'm sure you gained so much knowledge and insight into this and have a better idea on what strain to choose. Also, are you doing dwc again or trying something else?

LOL, yeah Chocolate spiced dirt... Sounds tasty right!! ;)
If you touch them and then smell your fingers, it has a more skunky / dank odor... It'll be interesting to see how they taste if I can get them finished up.

Yeah I'm not sure how good those bar strip LEDs are to be honest.. I've read some good and some bad. Might just have to try it myself to determine :)

Thanks for stopping by man... All is well here, and I hope the same in your neck of the woods.
Also thanks for the compliments; I'm just happy they are still alive :)

Yeah I'm going to try to just ride my "issue" out and hope for the best. My biggest problem (IMO) is that my current nute line-up makes it hard to lower my N any more... I'm doing some research as to how I might modify my flower regimen; probably will require me to get something like "Big Bud" (0-1-3 I think) but I'd prefer to not buy any more nutes until my next grow...

I'm def going to do another grow which I'll prob start a few weeks after this one. I have a number of modifications I want to make to my cab before I boot that next grow though. I'm also def planing to mainline again. Based on what I've seen around IMO mainlining is the best choice for me to maximize my space with the least amount of work.

Honestly I don't think my strain is supposed to be this stocky (based on the breeders comments). I have a feeling my lights were just so close to the plants they didn't really grow vertically as much as they could have. Next grow I'll have another 24" of vertical height so I'm thinking that'll give me some more options in terms of lighting distance. In any case, I didn't find this strain overly difficult to mainline for my specs. However I can see it being difficult if you wanted really a really wide manifold b/c these stems are so thick.

I have a bunch of Nirvana strains already; none of which I selected based on mainline-ability. I just picked some that I wanted to smoke :) Probably a bad choice on my part, but I figured fuck it, I'll make it work (or not). And yes DWC for sure; spent too much money on my setup to justify any other medium right now :)

OK guys, gotta run. Will post an update prob tomorrow. Have a good one.

All good info and updates Co! :) Love the pics and how they look. I have a question about those bottom lights. Do you feel like they helped or were worth the trouble of adding them? I am really considering getting some bottom lights and would love to have your opinion on the matter since you used them. Thanks.

Bama
Thanks for stopping by... I do think supplemental lighting is beneficial. I was trying to get a pic of this, but the "under story" (lower) flowers getting hit with those floodlights are quite a bit bigger than areas which don't have the under-side lighting. However those specific flood lights that I have are for very focused growth as they only have about a 10"x8" coverage at 10" away. Could be helpful if you really want to focus in on the underside of a big cola or something.

Knowing what I know now, I probably would've looked into the LED strips / bars however. I also saw an LED "wand" on amazon which could be dropped right in the middle of 2 plants -- interesting idea if you have the space.

Quick Update
Not a whole lot of time today guys. We have a nasty blizzard here and my boy is home from school.

The plants are doing OK.. I started trying to use Bud Factor X again last week and since then I've seen more discolouration in my leaves. Maybe this is how it's supposed to work; not sure and haven't had the time to dig into it. Still feeding in the 400's PPM and PH swinging between 5.3 - 6.3.

I'm thinking on this res change I'm going to start with the Overdrive... I'm figuring about 2-2.5 more weeks before a final flush, but I need to get a closer look at the trichs.

On a personal note, I recently learned about a medical issue I have, but not sure what it is yet. Still waiting to find out more, but hoping it doesn't require in-patient surgery / treatment. If it does not sure what will happen with these plants.. May have to teach my wife how to care for them, or chop them early... We'll see. Getting old fucking sucks!

Anyways guys, here's some pics from today. I hope everyone, their family and their plants are doing well. Peace

Good luck with the diagnosis! Hope it is a false alarm. I am starting to research some lights to get into the interior of the plants. I really need something to get into the middle of the plant to help all of those nugs in my girls. Not sure yet what I will go with but I really appreciate your opinion as you are using something right now. The girls look amazing and if you had to do an early chop I am guessing that would only affect your yield as everything else looks great. So that maybe the less risky thing to do. Your wife may/may not want to have the additional stress of caring for the plants if she is worried about you as well.

Bama
Thanks for the kind words; I appreciate it. And I totally agree; early chop would be the best option if it comes down to it...

If you go on Amazon and search for "LED grow corn" you should be able to find the light I was referring to that you could drop down in the middle of 1 or more plants... "LED grow bar" should show some of those I was talking about earlier to line the walls with... No idea how good they work, but food for thought.

Thank you for the info on those lights cogreen, I think I'll go researching myself aswell! Man I sure hope it isn't anything serious for sure. If you can keep us updated, I would hate to hear any bad news about my buddy in CO! Gonna for real have to make me move out there brother ! Og and btw the girls look amazing. Your plants never stop making me

Quick Update
Yesterday I did my regular res dump + mini flush + re-nute... I added in AN Overdrive at about 1/4 strength. PPM and PH about the same as it has been; mid 400s PPM and PH swinging from 5.3 - 6.5. I'm also planning on pulling out my humidifier in a few days and putting in my dehumidifier as it's my understanding that very low RH in the last 2 weeks can increase resin production.

I also decided to chop a few of the smaller / lower flowers off the plant. Mainly because I'm really wanting to try it out, but also because I have company coming for Thanksgiving and I want to make sure they get a chance to try the flowers. I have to be honest; they look and smell amazing and are beyond sticky.. Will have to wait a few days for these clippings to dry enough to get a taste.

Here's some pics from this AM. Posting them up so that I have a point of reference in a week or 2 as to how well that Overdrive works :)

Note you should be able to click on the image to get a full sized view.

I hope all is well in your world!! Peace.

Hey brotherman!

Didn't have time to read your updates fully but I did see you have a medical problem! Just take care of yourself man. The horticulture can take a backseat on this one. Just get better so you can get back to what you love doing!

If it hurts, that's just because pain is weakness leaving the body! Feel better. and have :joint: to make you feel better

Thanks for swinging by. I'll be sure to let you guys know how it smokes. Given there was no flush, I'm guessing the taste may not be ideal, but we'll see :)

Hey brother thanks... Yeah dude, family + health always comes first in my book. Right now I'm still waiting to get into a specialist to see WTF is up. May not be serious, but may be. I hate waiting w/o knowing; unneeded stress.

Atulip
Hi man... Thanks for the link on back building. I've read that before, but to be honest I'm confused at your comment "removing ~30% of individual buds". That technique seems to call for just topping a tiny bit off the top of the flower. Is there more info buried in that post which refers to the ~30%??

Mini-Update
I took a few pics today, so posting them up even though no diff from the last set of pics... I did take my humidifier out and I put in a small dehumidifier. Trying to get the humidity down into 10s or 20s. I've also been trying to stress the plants a lil with temps -- I stopped heating the room during lights out the let the temps drop more... They've been getting to around 60F during lights out.

Perhaps you guys will find this amusing. The smell is so strong that I have "glade plugins" and "Ona" strategically placed throughout the house.
- I have ona 9 places throughout the house.
- I have 11 glade plugins throughout the house.
- I have a few Yankee candles I light whenever my wife is home.
... and yet you can still smell dank.

Here's the top of my stairs leading up from the basement. At the bottom of the stairs is a room (w/door) where I have my grow setup. The door here atop the stairs opens into the main living room + kitchen area... I never come up from the basement without spraying ozium or fabreeze; as you can tell by the stash as well as a jar of ona. :) Needless to say I can't wait to get my scrubber installed.

All right guys and girls; I hope everyone is doing well and has a nice weekend.

Oh sorry I was thinking of this thread. Must've morphed it with the backbuilding.

Anecdotal evidence of buds regenerating when cut in half

Ah thanks man; that link makes more sense :)
So did you try this technique? My biggest concern is that I'm about 2-2.5 weeks from harvest and I'm wondering if the technique could slow other "flower swelling" on the plant...

Camo
Yeah dude, scrubber is a must have if you don't want the interior of your house smelling.. However I'm thinking a scrubber will only really be needed for my setup in the last 4-7 weeks as my odor was going out the window exhaust until recently.

KCMP
Thanks for watching out for me; I appreciate it... Think I'm good considering I never use any odor control in the actual grow room (door closed) and my grow cab has activated carbon filter sheets on intake. If you think I should still have cause for concern please let me know... Thanks
