Good afternoon everyone (well, it is in the UK! Good morning, everyone else).
I've been reading this forum for a little while and have picked up a few very helpful pieces of advice, so for that, before I start: THANK YOU for info I have already gathered, THANK YOU in advance for anything I learn from this thread.
So, here goes nothing. I would like to preface this by saying that until a week or two ago I was very ignorant of the growing process so forgive my amateurish mistakes. Mostly, I'd like to know if this can be salvaged (maybe that's too extreme, perhaps 'improved upon'), to turn it into a grow and learning process that is worth it in the long run. I guess even a total cock-up would be a learning curve!
First, a little info:
GERMINATION & INITIAL INFO.
This is a bagseed grow, I germinated about a dozen seeds that I found in the bottom of my 'box of tricks' where I store my pipes, papers, etc. Not the best way to source good quality seeds, I know!
Only about four or five sprouts poked through about a week before Valentine's Day, as a timefrmae. I wish I'd kept more of a diary now!
I picked the two most viable, due to space restrictions, and moved them into a Potting Mix, in peat pots. So the plants are now about 4 weeks old, give or take.
These two were moved into my wardrobe/closet which is to serve as my grow space. I started off using CFLs after a friend's recommendation, and lack of funds, unfortunately.
VEG.
I had one (these are surprisinly hard to get, round here) 6500k CFL and one 2700k for veg, both just under 30 watt actual usage. This obviously wasn't really enough, and I must seem like an absolute fool for starting so ill-equipped, but the plants seemed happy and soon started to flourish.
Incidentally, water every other day, with crappy Miracle Gro that I had, using a little less than recommended. Proper nutrients will soon be utilised, I promise!
I was using foil for reflection (another no-no, I now realise), wrapping it over the plant like an old lady's headscarf, with the bulb inside (does that make sense?). :surrender:
The plants were in pots about 3" across and were soon transplanted to larger pots, as their root growth dictated.
After the plants were about 5"-6" I started a little LST to maximise the puny light's effectiveness.
I will say that I don't think I Vegged for nearly long enough, but unfortunately I'm renting a house and we have quarterly inspections to check we haven't destroyed the place, so I was anxious to get this initial first grow over and done, successfully, however small the yield. I figured even if I had a plant that started seeding due to my inexperience, I would carry on (still will if this is the case), at least I'll know how to conclude a grow, and will have more seeds. Obviously if it turns out as two males they will be binned.
So, after about 3 weeks of veg under my crappy set-up, I turned to 12-12 lighting.
FLOWERING (hopefully)
I've switched to 12-12 and the plants have been that way for about 10 days now. They are under 4 CFL 2700k bulbs, 1x 30w, 1x 28w, 2x23w. Again, this isn't ideal, but is what my budget dictates.
Photos follow.
Plant One!
Plant Two!
Plant Two's now been very well, check this out:
Any suggestions?
The happy family:
So, thinking about it, this isn't really a journal. I jumped in whole-hearted but half-arsed due to lack of knowledge. I'm now a month through, have no doubt made a lot of mistakes along the way, but I'd like to keep you all posted and if anyone has any advice, questions or encouragement, it would be definitely appreciated.
Thank you all,
Be lucky!
