300W LED vs. 400W HID Demonstration

re: GrowLEDHydro 300W LED vs. 400W HID Demonstration

hey ss, thanks for checkin on trichs. the pics of trichs are awesome. pretty shocked that the led are just a lil a head of the HID. didnt expact that. so u are at roughly 10-15% amber. what amber % do u like ur meds at. and how would u go about knowing when to do a flush? do u flush? how many days before u harvest? i would just like to know how do u know when to start a flush to get the % of trich color u want? lol sorry if i confused u , i think i confused my self a lil.

seriously great journal!!

Great stuff SS!:bravo:

Do you by chance have any portable shop lights? Or some way of doing a comparison of plants, with photos or video taken under a common light source? (without the hassle of taking plants out of the tent)

using a MH outside the front of the tents, with LED and HPS off just for taking pictures, would be a sweet way to compare. lol.

re: GrowLEDHydro 300W LED vs. 400W HID Demonstration

SS as per usual a stunning display. Thankyou.

Two more rounds of lovely pictures. :yummy:

Plus the promise of a movie!

This is perhaps the best comparison grow ever.

An amazing job thus far Setting Sun!
I always learn something new when I stop in and get caught up.

Cant wait for the video. :D

Awesome grow SS, definately subscribed and gaining huge respect for LEDs and your growing skills.... my only problem is if I read this thread for too long, the drool starts to damage my keyboard.

:thanks:

Heard that b4, I think that they will still be there. Thanx for answers. I'm interested in the difference between the lights, if any, in the quality of the trichomes

Sp4r500w.jpg

with regards to size of the globes, the amount of goo, and the relative distributions of the colours of the little organelles,
When_To_Harvest3.jpg

that is, if one lamp is ripening them faster than the other.

Looking good for Saturnalia, party on Garth!:headbanger:

Those girlies are looking kinda mature for their age and strain.

"Do you mind if we dance which yo' dates?"

all apologies to The Vandals,

Very nice graphic, thanks bel.

This strain goes 8-10 weeks according to Nirvana, who is one of our sponsors:

PPP (Pure Power Plant) feminized marijuana seeds

I'm on the ladies schedule, not mine, so whenever they're ready. I was surprised to see that many amber trichs at 50 days, and I took samples from several different buds.

I'll check them again next couple days and see what's up, but the pistils don't look mature, the buds are still swelling, and the plants are still drinking, so..... Careful with that Axe, Eugene.

;)

Coming to the end of another awe inspiring journey. Absolutely marvelous grow and journal.
Thanks SS!

Love the trich pics SS! Absolutely awesome. Congrats on a great grow, great journal and thanks for helping us all out....:thanks:

Great job! The LEDs appear to have more amber. I think in SFhaze's journal at some point he said he noticed a faster flower time with the LED. If that's the case do you plan on harvesting both at the same time or will you go by ripeness?

thanks bro!

I'm going to go by ripeness individually for each tent.

Would prefer to harvest with mostly cloudy and just a few amber trichs, but that's what the LED buds looked like on the last check at 7 weeks, and this strain is supposed to go 8-10, so I'll keep a close eye on things the next few days.

Harvesting according to individual ripeness should also help make the smoke comparison more useful.

re: GrowLEDHydro 300W LED vs. 400W HID Demonstration

I've been away for a few days, but have managed to catch up this morning....fantastic! But then, I could have predicted what they'd look like now about 2 months ago....

I hope all the folks following and emulating caught this quote that I've included above.

Optimize the environment! Spend money on that....not nutes!

For example: The complete House and Garden line for a grow this size would be over 400 bucks! AN would come in ever-so-slightly lower.

SS's nutes cost less than 25.00.....and he's got enough left over to do this a few more times after spending that 25 bucks.

Save the money and buy fans, ducting, humidifiers/dehumidifiers, etc. That's how you do this folks!

It's kind of a bitch to accept that CRF's can do a better of feeding my plants than I can, but my ego is just going to have to lump it, lol.

welcome back bro and :thanks:

Flushing is a very controversial and hotly debated topic with excellent growers on both sides of the argument.

When you use CRF or controlled-release-fertilizers like I am on this grow, and which are mixed into the medium and last for several months, you can't really flush them out.

The final product, however, isn't negatively affected because CRF's don't overload plants with nutrients, so the plants don't need to be flushed of excess nutes because they don't accumulate any.

When I used liquid fertilizers, I would do a thorough flush a week or two before harvest, but I never experimented with flushing versus not flushing, so not sure if the flush was necessary or not.

thanks staffy!

Great idea!

Next set of pics or videos, I'll do just that.

Momma always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun....

Love the videos SS! Reminds me of one of my favorite activities, which is getting high and just looking at my plants, no words needed. Just get absorbed in their awesomeness.

ok, y i forgot u was using crf. r u adding anthything else( liquid ferts) in this grow at any point or just keeping it crf/ plain phed water?

Re: 420 Cannasumer Reports Competition - GrowLEDHydro 300w LED vs. 400w HID

Won't repeat that mistake.

A very thorough flush seems to have improved things considerably.

Thanks TL, full speed ahead ;)

Hey SS sorry to ask about an old post but did you use 2x 3x size of the pot, or more, for the flush back in early Oct? Reason I ask is I need to do a flush for my plants and its 5 gal bucket fill operation hauled up and downstairs - the less water I have to haul and waste down the drain the better.

:thanks:

re: GrowLEDHydro 300W LED vs. 400W HID Demonstration

I would think chilled water with clearex would do a good job of flushing CRFs. - for those that want to flush.

how high are the ppm's for the runoff compared to your plain water SS? (cant remember what docs were...thought it was ~350...)
