Grandpa's White Widow - 1st grow EVER

Very nice ^, I'm one to vouge for the low humidity enviroment, its very true. I believe it didn't grow as vigoursly but it was a g13 x nl#5 x hashplant hybrid that yielded a total of a 1/4 pound from 5 plants, a 250watt hps and a total of 5 squarefeet of total growspace. This was done in the mountains of Flagstaff arizona!!!! maybe a high of 25% humidity on a normal day.

Still the best smoke I've had to this day, man I wish I could get some pictures of that harvest!!! Well I had them on a former website that was shut down by LEO, and I wont say which one.

Your ladies will pick up in growth speed in a few weeks Im sure.

Are you suggesting that they are not dead already ? Cause here's waht I found tonight when I got home...

I actually took my bass and amp downstairs and played the old Elton John song "Funeral For A Friend"...it was a sad moment. I am about ready to cull these and start over with my still in the package seeds and a LOT of new knowledge.

Suggestions anyone ?

I read somewhere on here that high humidity makes for a lusher growth...so that is what I have been shooting for.

Save up for that perlite! Mix enough into your soil and your plants won't experience over-watering. (Mix too much and you will have to water a lot more often lol.)

If you have dry pans and lift up your pots and liquid dribbles out, that sounds to me like your drain holes are sitting right on the bottom of your pans. If that is the case, you want at least a little gap between the two so that drainage can happen.

I believe that grandpastoner has a VERY limited budget. That $5-$8 would purchase a small bag of perlite and allow him to mix it 1:4 or so with his soil which would go a long way towards preventing this problem in the future. Just a thought.

Also - with soil that is light enough to provide for proper drainage - in addition to hefting the pots to estimate their moisture content, you can always do the old-fashioned thing and stick your finger into the soil. If it comes up dry than you can water. If you encounter moist soil than don't.

Also... While it is true that MJ plants that are living in a perfect world will have the proper moisture content at all times, for many people this is not possible. In fact, some MJ plants are overwatered while some get a little bit dry. You can always try observing your plants; they will let you know when they are in need of water because they will look a wee bit tired (and eventually, wilted lol). If you see a plant drooping just a little bit, water it, and 20 minutes later it has perked up... Well, it was thirsty.

I believe it is better to let MJ get (a little) dry as opposed to overwatering. Simply put: A waterlogged (soil) MJ plant cannot breathe.

Also, if you look at the various landrace strains from around the world, many of the ones that come from environments where the moisture level is good/high (and the soil, temperature, etc. is good) really aren't that potent. But some of the strains grown in mountainous (for example) regions where the moisture content isn't high... are the stuff that legends are made from lol. After all, MJ produces THC as a defense mechanism in response to certain stresses.

Lighten that soil. And let them get a little thirsty in between waterings. Just don't let them get so thirsty that they lay down or become crunchy lol.

EVERY DAMN WORD YOU WROTE I HAVE TAKEN TO HEART ! :thanks:

But what about right now ? Should I cull these and start fresh ?:helpsmilie:

Should I cull these and start fresh ?:helpsmilie:

They're not dead yet are they? If they pull through you will have learned something. If they give up the ghost and die you will have learned something. If you kill them now you will only learn how killing a plant makes you feel lol.

I just looked on homedepot.com and found Miracle-Gro 8 Qt. Perlite for about $5.00...I kind of have a bad taste in my mouth from MG...or maybe it was that tuna sandwich I ate after it sat out in the sun for 6 hours...anyway, would this perlite do the trick ?

Uhh... <REFRAINS FROM COMMENTING ON THE MG vs. ROTTEN TUNA COMPARISON:rofl:>

Last bag of MG Perlite I looked at said it had MG fertilizer in it. And the crappy store I was at had a choice between MG products and... Well, the PLANTS they had didn't have a MG sticker on them (yet).

If that's all you can find, it would be better than no perlite I think (could be wrong, but I've used it when mixing soil for my veggie plants when I had one to plant and the nursery was out of the 4 cubic foot bags of perlite and it didn't kill them).

You won't be using it at over 25% and you might use less depending on how the spirit moves you when you make it up.

The main thing is to allow your plants to drain better and to breathe so that you don't end up in this situation again.

I'd do it. Well... As a last resort.

Then again, think your price is about the going rate around here for the same size bag. And that 8-quart bag is 0.267361111 cubic feet. I bought a 4 cubic foot bag of plain perlite from the nursery for a little over $15. Filling that $15 bag of perlite with those $5 bags of MG perlite would cost... $149.61. :laughtwo::whoa::biglaugh::loopy:

[EDIT: I THOUGHT that looked wrong. It would cost you $74.81. But the point still stands. They put something in it that you don't want/need and then charge you through out the a- I mean through the nose for it lol.]

If you lived around my neck of the woods I'd just give you enough to make two or three of those MG-sized bags.

Lmao! You should be ok with the perlite. I don't think they add anything to it. Just check the label carefully. Yes, adding perlite will really help you out for sure.

just keep on letting them dry out some more, and consider the perlite. I have read that it does have ferts in it, but at a minimal amount. I wouldn't hesitate.
Do the pots still feel heavy? maybe use a kaabob stick or a chopstick to aerate a little bit by GENTLY poking down into the soil (don't plunge it through the roots, but try to work it down into them), it works on lawns and may help in your situation to get some air to the root system.

Yes, let the ladies dry out a bit. Aerate the soil to help them along. Mine took about 4-5 days to start showing signs of recovery... I did give mine a misting once a day with a light dilution of kelp and made sure there was no environmental stress on them. Just give them a few more days and see what happens...

I will do just that. Let them continue to air out and I will try the chopstick idea as well. I have a question about perlite though...I found a site that has many different kinds. There's Schundler Horticultural Perlite...Hydrofarm Super Coarse Perlite...PVP Perl-Lome
Horticultural Perlite...and then there's Schundler Coarse Horticultural Vermiculite, and Mica-Grow Fine Grade Horticultural Vermiculite...I am one confused old bastard. They are all under the same heading of "Horticultural Perlite & Vermiculite"...here's the link to see for yourselves Horticultural Perlite and Vermiculite at Home Harvest Garden Supply

It is bright and early...I have only slept for 2 hours and my kids have me up already. I am gonna go check on the ladies, try your suggestions, takes some pix to post later...and bash my head with a brick until I knock myself out so I can get a few more hours sleep. Thanxxx Fly, Dank, Pan, and Be Irie for all your help. You give an old (AND SLEEPY) man hope. Have a nice day yall...stay baked !

:thanks:Thanxxx Fly...I'll give the medium to larger stuff a try. Here's what I found just moments ago.

They are still greenish...not dead, that's for sure. Base stems still seem strong.

I put some flat stones beneath the pots to allow for better drainage

It raised them up just a bit

I can see they still have some life left. My fear is that they have suffered severe trauma and will result in turning into hermaphrodites...again a Michael Jackson reference.

I am thinking about taking 4 of them and planting them outdoors in a wooded area I know about. And then germinating 4 others and doing it right with the knowledge I have gained here. I accept all suggestions and am damn thankful for each and every one.:rollit:

Thanxxx yall...

Hi Grandpa :ciao: I think you should do whatever you want, again people jus hate to see mj die if it doesn't have too. I think the outside thing is a good idea. Just leave them in those pots till the medium dries out and then transplant them into some soil outdoor soil you know the stuff mother nature produces ;). I had a bush outside last year, with the help of some LST I had 30+ budsites. Unfortunatly someone, most likley 1 of the few people I showed(DONT DO THAT) or the garbage man peeking over the fence in the alley one day, ripped ALL the leaves off and left the stalk. So make sure you put them where there's absolutly NO TRAFFIC of any kind.

Once again IMHO its whatever you feel like doing, I'll still stop by!

I can't believe those are still wet from your last watering. Were those put straight into soil or is there some rockwool in there somewhere?

Yea dude...when I stuck the chopstick down in there, it came out wet. I am gonna put 4 of them outside in a wooded area where there is NO TRAFFIC (thanxxx DeadTour). And to answer your question Be Irie, they went straight into the soil. I have used no rockwool. I just started germination on another 4...

They are so pretty up close...

Should I buy some rockwool ? I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge in the past few weeks thanxxx to the kind folks on this site. :thanks:

The ones I take outside...should I do anything to the soil ? Or just put the in the ground and leave the rest to Mother Nature ? This time...NO MISTAKES :rollit:
