Shining Silver Haze - Scrog Grow - 600W - Soil

So just been in the tent First time in two days so could notice some good growth.
On side seemed to be a little less then the other and I think it's due to poor hanger design so I added a 300w red spectrum CFL for good measure :goof:

Of course I took you guys some photos and I'm pleased with bud progression (I think haha)first grow so am guessing it's decent ! It's starting to really kick up a smell thank the Lord for carbon filters !! To be fair I've found this strain has had a fairly strong odour from about week two!

Oh I also just laid on my belly for half hour and removed tons of lower leaves and crappy bud from below my scrog net a lot mostly dead from lack of light already I've only just got round to doing it

Any way the bit we all really like ......

That's Somthing I've read so many arguments for and against and would love any input you or any one has ?
This is my first grow but believe me I've scoured every web page I can find for months s d months be tried to not come in half heartedly lol
I guess some subjects require personal trial and error. I'm happy with my choices so far but obviously yield will tell ...

I'm currently patiently waiting an hour to check my temps since adding the CFL as I mentioned before I have a thermostats to regulate heat so should be fine but like to double check :thumb:
Can you tell I'm an excited new grower yet haha

I feel your excitement! First time growing has been a lot of fun. Such a cool and unique hobby to have! I also understand you having worries about defoliation during flowering...... Because I too had worries... It wasn't until a good friend of mine whose been growing way longer than me kinda walked me through it ( also known as lollipopping) The argument is, the light penetration isn't getting to those lower bud sites. In turn not allowing them to, I guess "fully mature". I can tell you this though! People say you shouldn't defoliate during flower I call bullshit and find it almost impossible not too! My canopy was getting ridiculous. Lastly, after doing a heavy trimming it wasn't more than two days later you could see a huge growth spurt..... Frost, bud growth, smell all increased noticably. My recommendation do it. and don't stress on it too much. You can take some before and after pics maybe start in one corner of the screen and work your way over. Start small see how you like it

I think I will give it a go maybe a light attempt just to see how my girls react I've stripped most of bellow the screen and as you can see my canopy is rather dense so seems sensible to reveal a bit more bud ! I will think on it until my next watering as that's when I usually do my maintanance aswell! I'm going to slowly up nutes too as not had any problems with mute burn since the start so I think they can take a bit more (I'm still not at maximum suggested dose )

A question for any experienced growers ... Somthing that's worried me since realising I made a rubbish mistake early on is the size of my final pots ... By the time I realised I should have gone bigger I was far too intwined into my scrod net

So my question is what will inevitably be the effects of becoming root bound ? I would estimate I have 7-8 weeks left of flowering so am certain its Somthing I will experience ... As of now growth seems normal and healthy (view pics from last night a few posts up ) but I'm really worried this will be devastating to my final yield

From what I have read, 1 gallon per month of being alive. I went over kill on mine and went 7 gallon. I'm about to start week 10 from sprout and I'm watering every 3 days (watered Sunday and will feed today). So there is such a thing as overkill but I will imagine you'll get to the point of watering everyday possibly twice a day. 3 gallons with almost 2 months veg? A lot of water intake.

I've noticed if you spray them right before lights go out then it slows down watering frequency a touch. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

I've just been to check my pot size and I'm pretty pissed at myself there only 2.4 gal ! Or 11litres for us English blokes .. Looks like this grow may not end as well as it started haha I'm already 2 and a half months in as my veg was a fairly long 7 weeks as you know ! 3 weeks to start was only CFL so not sure on the impact of root growth compared to HID
Not a lot I can do I guess

As always thanks for your input nismo12

I guess I just gotta let it run and hope for the best it's why I'm here so I can learn! You guys provide the platform for that :)

In better news got a pretty decent deal on two cool hoods with 600w HPS dual spec bulbs there for a later date but a shop was closing so selling off cheap and as I plan on going bigger heat control will be an issue I must tackle

£55 all in

Do not worrie about pot size. The start of my journal shows what T5 lighting and 6X6 pots, about 1.4 gal. You'll be fine but I was watering every other day.

Cheers

UPDATE TIME

This updates nothing spectacular but does raise a subject I touched on early on in this journal ..... The dreaded snapped off top (one I wasn't topping, a well developing kola site)
So as the title suggests I'm growing using scrog method .. For this who don't know it involves a rigorous tucking method where you are pulling your tops back under a net and moving further and further around the net allowing more and more bud sites to develope. Hence my dence canopy.. Somthing I would advice is using bigger squares then I did (2.5cm)
As I tried to tuck one of my more majors sized bud sites I snapped the top clean off :lot-o-toke:
Obviously as a new grower I was panicking and sure of certain death but I remembered a thread I'd read previously on my ever increasing quest for more knowledge on growing well.
So I grabbed a roll of masking tape (yellow, I'm telling u this as will become relevant shortly ) and lined the top up best I could and taped the sucker back on ... I also had to cable tie it to my scrog screen to stabilise it.. And now the wait began, in Many cases the top dies shortly after !! But to my joy she retook !!!!! I attribute this to fast repair (luckily I had read that thread) and the fact my plants are always in what appears to be healthy condition.
So here's the photos, unfortunately I have none of it broke off as time was of the essence but hope this can help others who endure my same plight

image9530.jpeg

It's hard to get clear photos my Canopy is a bitch and the break was close to the scrog net

image9531.jpeg

As you can see where the break was is now a thick knuckle and believe it or not it's my biggest top with most bud production so far.
Reason being the plant directing more energy its way to aid the repair . WHAT A PLANT haha which also proves super cropping to be a valuable aid to bigger buds in my opinion ....

Now as that was rather long and although helpful a tad boring here's some porn .. Bud development
