Thanks for the replies Doc and Gogreen. I was thinking the same thing as I look at my entire line of Botanicare nutes I just purchased last week. It's funny because I think I'll go to Kmart tomorrow and buy the Oc+. I have a good deal on unopened Botanicare nutes if anyone's interested. LOL By the way Doc, I wish I had found your threads earlier. So far I've changed my entire system and nutes. Is there any other hidden threads on here? I am sticking with my 1000w light for now. I am reading SS's led vs hid right now and I'm glad I haven't finished yet, or who knows, Led's? LOL

Also, there is Harrels....I've yet to try that one.
But, I am really looking forward to Osmocote's new organic CRF. It combines OC+ with organic components to get the best of both worlds....could be the winning ticket.

Well, it is great to be here. Like you Doc, I am not a heavy smoker anymore. I was in my younger days and quit many years ago due to job related circumstances. I am able to do so now without any worries. I suffer from back problems which flare up every few months. When they do it's unbearable and I'm out of commission for 1 week at a time. Chiropractors help a little, pain pills are smoke screens with adverse side effect (addiction), and not for me. Naproxen and the likes upset my upper digestive track and the list of negatives goes on. So I decided to try old faithful after many years and its amazing how it does help. Funny how I went from being an everyday smoker for recreation years ago to an occasional smoker for pain relief and muscle relaxation. I've always loved growing it. Never in large quantities just one or two girls at a time. I've cross bread, cloned and experimented for years even when I didn't smoke. Never sold a penny's worth. Gave it to family and friends just to see their reactions to what I had grown. Test rats? Maybe, but they enjoyed it. As I did growing it. Funny how you can sit in a room with them for long periods of time and never lose your smile. Sorry if this is out of topic for this thread but just wanted to give a little profile on myself. Back to Setting Suns's led vs hid grow. Page 19 got a ways to go. Once again thanks guys.

Delicious and unique. More of the VK earthiness is coming through, but it's tempered with this spicy/minty aroma that I can't wait to sample.
The VK had an extremely unique, but also extremely one-dimensional aroma. An earthy/muskiness that was a bit too much for me at times in bloom.
These ladies retain some of that, but again, it's mellowed by the genetics from the NL/ww. I wouldn't say their aroma is weaker than the VK's was, just more complex and pleasant. I don't mind moving these ladies around at at all, and occasionally I'll get up close to a bud and take a nice big whiff. I only did that *once* with the VK girls, lol.
This kind of data has been a long time coming, and the start of the actual comparison in this journal has been a bit of a wait also. I do appreciate everyone's patience.
Everything is converging nicely with my two current grows, and it should be at most a couple of more weeks before we have both tents fired up and populated with identical clones.

I'm really pleased with the LED lights showing and can't wait to see the final numbers. It's been a long time coming with all the early days arguments about Chevy vs. Toyota, but we're all finally going to see objective data from a controlled run

Trich check from last night. I checked different bud sites on both plants, and I think these pics show very few amber trichs. There's still quite a few clear ones too, so not quite done yet, but getting there.
I look at a lot more trichs than this when I do a check, but I try to post a few that represent things color-wise, and some just for fun.

ya you still have some time, thats for sure.. just means your buds are going to get fatter. who care if they take longer as long as the buds get fatter. Doc was just telling something that the OC+ plants mike take longer to finish budding but increase yield, so maybe thats whats going to happen to you?

I was skimming through all of the pages, so I didn't get to read everything. Did you pick out a sativa yet? My new favorite sativa is Durban Poison. If you try it, you'll know what I mean. It tastes amazing, and really does a number on your head, in a good way. Not sure about how it grows. But totally recommended.

I chose a sativa for the upcoming grow called Pure Power Plant. It's got a lot of great reviews and reports, so I thought I'd give it a go.
I was pruning my PPP mother plant a few days ago, and I snipped off her main top to slow her down.
I dried it and smoked it, and it produced a really nice sativa head high, so I'm real excited about growing this strain.

Well, *I* certainly don't care if they take a bit longer to finish, but I don't want to try people's patience waiting for the LED/HID grow to start.
In any case, it shouldn't be much longer.
I got the PPP clones under my Tek 2 110w T5 now, so they're doing fine.
They sure are lankier and more sativa-looking than my two VK-cross clones.
The two PPP moms I grew from seeds weren't all that lanky before I LST'ed them, but I guess the clones show a more adult growth pattern.

well i guess people are just going to have to wait and understand that no one should have to pull their plants early because someone wants to get impatient. but i dont think anyone cares as long as you keep putting bud porn up.
maybe it would be a real good idea to LST them or really shorten the veg.. the last thing you want is plants over 4' like mine in a tent.

Definitely not, I would never pull early, makes no sense to spend that much time for an inferior product. Mids are like Bammer weed, nobody cares.

yep, and I'm expecting and counting on advice and suggestions. It's more than a bit spooky to me to drop this air-cooled 400w HID down lower than I've dropped my non-air-cooled 250w HID. Nice big square reflector in a roughly 3' x 3' square tent, so coverage is good even down close, but it's going to freak me out, lol.

I got tired of looking at your fat buds, so I had to get some of my own, lol.
I really should have gone with an air-cooled 400w HID from the get-go with my HID tent, but it just seemed like a huge hassle to set that up, so I went with 250w. I do think it pushes technique when you grow with lower watts, so I don't really regret it, but I'm stoked about being able to use a 400w HID in my tent. Temps are 1-2 degrees lower with the A/C 400w setup than with the non-A/C 250w, and that's using a 4" exhaust fan. If I touch the top of the hood with the 400w A/C, it feels *barely* warm.
It's no secret by now that the GLH Spectra 300 LED light can produce fat buds, so I'm looking forward to the tandem grow.
It's been a great recipe for this grow, once I stopped freaking out about burning my plants and added enough OC+.
I had to top-dress with a couple of additional Tbsp per pot to make up for the low starting dose, so it's possible that the OC+ would have worked even better if I had sprinkled the proper amount just over the hempy hole, and then again a couple of times at 1-2" intervals. That's how I incorporated it into the pots, but just not enough.
Next time, I'd go with 1.5 Tbsp of OC+ prills per gallon, and mix it in evenly at the get-go.
