Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

I finally started the two seeds I already have: one Maple Leaf Indica and one Elephant Bud. I think I will have better luck this time.

I folded a paper towel into fourths, wet it with distilled water and placed it flat into a ziploc sandwich bag. Then I put the seeds in between the layers a few inches apart, puffed the bag a little with my breath and sealed it. I placed the bag in a tin pie plate and covered that with a dinner plate. I placed the whole thing on top of a florescent light where it will be slightly warmed.

I'm not worried about confusing them because the seeds are so different in size. Now all I need to do is make sure they stay moist, and avoid transplanting until they are well developed. About 1" long maybe?

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Yeah, 1" sound great Abe.
I have a feeling you will have much better luck this time.

Yeah, I think so too. I checked them this evening. I didn't disturb them. I just verified that the plates were slightly warm, the bag still had air, and there was moisture in there. I then put it all up. I was just looking for major failure. All is well. :thumb:

Yesterday, I got rid of BBX.2M, BBX.2N, BBX.2P (BigBud x BlueMagoo), L.4J, and L.4K (Lavender Indica). Further veg thinning will come soon.

I put BBX.2A and L.3A into bloom. Harvest circa 6/19. Love me some Lav. :tokin:

All of small veg but the 4 youngest were graduated to medium veg. I'll need to be transplanting this weekend. There's a few too big for these 3.5" pots.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

G13xGB.3P and G13xGB.3Q only have 2 weeks of feeding and then 10 days of flush, so they go to the late bloom mix. That means once again I am doing a full rack of seven mixtures to do a basic feed. 0o

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

So does anyone remember this picture?

20110419Aber-08.jpg

I thought I should explain that and give some insight into my planning method.

First, a few ongoing facts. I am a med grower with a limit of 6 bloom and 18 veg plants. Bloom is defined as > 12" tall or across or under a bloom cycle. I put plants into bloom in pairs of the same or compatible strains. Every time I harvest a pair I try to have a replacement pair waiting. I know about how long each strain can go if I don't mess up conditions and cause no setbacks. This means I can reasonably forecast their harvest date to within a few days. I would like to optimize the number of strains and plants per strain I manage.

So in comes the whiteboard pic above. The left three columns are the pairs in bloom, divided into BLUE, RED, and GREEN groups. BLUE has a vestigial bit I won't be using still showing in that pic, so I will explain what is in these columns using RED as my example:

IN: BBX.1G, 1J <- What is in bloom for this team right now. These are BigBud x BlueMagoo.
H: 5/28 <- these went in on 4/2 and go about 55 days, so I project harvest for 5/28.
NEXT: MTP.1A, 1B <- The plants in veg that are destined to replace the BBXs above. MTP= Matanuskan Thunderf.
H: 8/6 <- Since I know these go about 65-70 days, this is a good guess for harvest
Start Clones:
5/14
<- I assume 12 weeks from cutting to ready. This is 12 weeks before 8/6. Now I know when to clone for best effect
TRN 10/8 <- What I am currently proposing to clone and when it might finish. Longer predictions are less accurate. TRN - Trinity

Each column is done in it's group color. Black writing means proposed and subject to change.

In the right column is simply a list of the harvest dates in the group columns, reordered to chronological order. The colors here still indicate groups with the black meaning maybe. So I can see what is likely to harvest between now and October.

Although now shown, I now have a list that tells me the 'status' of each strain in my garden. Each is either in 'clone' or 'maintain'. 'Clone' status means I am trying to concentrate on that strain and need more clones of it for now. I will try to multiply these as much as I can. 'Maintain' means I will reduce to one plant and when it starts to get big I will replace it with a clone. That way I have 1, maybe 2, of these strains.

Currently, I have these in 'clone' status:

GDP (Granddaddy Purps)
MTP (Matanuskan Thunderf.)
TRN (Trinity)

These are in 'maintain' status:

L (Lavender Indica)
BD (Blue Dream)
BBX (BigBud x BlueMagoo)

One more - G13xGB (G13 x GodBud) is in 'maintain', but I will not be growing it anymore, so that's just until I find a good home for the last two. Technically, it's status is 'exterminate', I just don't want to toss the healthy ones I have. It's a good plant, but I have limits and it doesn't rate high enough to stay.

The best reason to do all this is that my memory is crap. I have to write it down or it's gone. I need the structure and predictability doing this gives me.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Whats up with the sprouting seeds Abe?
How about some pics of the ladies?
:cheer:

The seeds have done nothing. They may be duds. They were freebies from a friend and may be quite old. Then again, they may do fine. I dunno. I'm still watching.

Pics I'll get to soon. I'm short on time tonight - got to get to bed for work tomorrow. I'll try to do some tomorrow night. Promise.

Veg can wait for it's next feed. Especially after that feed/transplant session yesterday.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Because of the ufos I know where you shop. Nice seed stock you have.

:slide: I'm elated to have them, and intimidated at the same time. I've only done clones. I'm 0 for 3 on seeds.

I spent some time with a trusted friend at a grow shop, and we put together a plan. A plan that will go into effect this weekend. It will begin with soaking, and end in a little brown cubes of something I can't remember the name of. It's not rockwool. It crumbles. It comes in tray-sized sheets. 🤷 It was just one sheet right out of a box, so I don't have a label. But I know what I'm going to try to do.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Thanks for the pics and good luck with the next seed run.
I think you'll nail it this time.
In nature, they fall to the ground and rest there through the winter till the warmth of the sun and spring rains "wake them up." The survival of the species hung in the balance for this primitive process to work.
Pretty sure whatever you try will be better than nature.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Here's some more from today:

Three seeds - two Afghani Hindu Kush (AHK) and one Super Lemon Haze (SLH). This is a test. The SLH is feminized, but the AHK is not. I'm going for a healthy female of each.

I placed each in a 3oz cup with bottled water (Fiji). I left them in a dark cabinet at ~68-70°F. After about 24 hours they have all sunk for some time. Here they are in their cups just before extraction.

SLH

I cut loose 3 Oasis cubes (?). I mixed up 1 qt of bottled water with 1/4 tsp of Big Foot, which before dilution is 1% kelp extract and 0.5% humic acid (pH 6.27, room temp). I put this in a bowl and wet the cubes.

Then I sterilized some forceps with alcohol then rinsed with clean water. Very carefully, I plucked each seed from it's cup and gently placed it 1-2mm below the surface, pointy end down. The I crumbled a little of the cube up to wet mush and put that over each seed. Each cube went into the cup the seed came from (sans water).

These were transferred to the clone dome to maintain low light and high humidity. This tray will get distilled water mist instead of the usual foliar feed mist until these are growing past the first true leaves.

That's the plan anyway. We'll see how it pans out. My buddy has had great, nearly foolproof, results like this.
