Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

haha yea i only have 18 to water total by hand and itll take 2 or 3 hours just to water 6 or 7.. the actual watering wont take but 20 min.. but ill just be in the garden thinking and tinkering. moving plants around.. defoliateing.. and jammin out, usually to the doors, and then its like 3 hrs later..

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Hi Abe,
in my post about sprouts, I mentioned that the seed sprouts pointed end up like a bean, the growing tip then turning down with gravity and levering the cotyledons (often still in the shell) above the surface like this:

I believe your post said you planted the sprouts point down.
The only time you do that is if they are long enough to go ahead and have the top of the sprout at or a little above the surface.

cheers,
cptn

Ack! So pointy end down then? Next time. Thank you.

I got most of the first sanding pass done on the drywall work in the new bloom room today. Another hour and that will be done. Then one last pass with plaster and a light sand and I should be able to paint. My shoulders and arms are toast.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

I weighed out G13xGB.3P & G13xGB.3Q. The total was 427.9g (15oz, 2g). Not too bad, but as usual, lots of small buds and very little sizable stuff. That's it for the G13 x GodBud for me - I have no more plants of that strain at all now. I won't miss it, really.

I transplanted the following into 9 gallon pots. I will be putting them into bloom tonight I expect as soon as I get done harvesting BBX.1G and BBX.1J:

MTP, MTP.1B (Matanuskan Thunderf)
GDP.1H, GDP.1J (Grandaddy Purps)

I gave away the following twelve plants, four of which are over 2' tall:

MTP.1A, MTP.2C, MTP.2D
TRN, TRN.1C (Trinity)
L.4C, L.4D, L.4N, L.4P ('Lavender' indica)
GDP.2E, GDP.2F, GDP.2H

That refills bloom with a full six and reduces veg to a manageable size again at fifteen:

Large veg:

BBX.2J (BigBud x BlueMagoo)
GDP.1F, GDP.1K
BD.5S (Blue Dream)
L.4F
MTP.1C
TRN.1A

Small Veg:

MTP.1J, MTP.2A, MTP.2B
GDP.2D, GDP.2G, GDP.2J
TRN.1B, TRN.1D

There are a number of other clones ready or near ready for transplant tho, so I'll have to continue selecting aggressively.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

I harvested BBX.1G and BBX.1J (BigBud x BlueMagoo). I took some pictures before I harvested and before the four new bloomers went in.

Here's looking into bloom. Notice that the back two BigBud x BlueMagoo (BBX) are all purple/copper/yellow. Gotta love it. Came on in flush. Those are the two I harvested today:

Here's a closer look:

20110530Aber-02.jpg

These are the buds on those BBXs. Not large, but luscious. My HID bulbs are old and I'm waiting for the money to replace them. Soon. In the meantime my production is down and nug size is reduced. It all smokes the same though:

Here are some close-ups of her harvest-sister L.3A:

The youngest ones:

The two Afghani Hindu Kush (AHK) sprouts. They have sad elongated stems, but now that I have them staked up in brighter light the true leaves are noticeably growing:

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

The AHK sprouts are looking poor. One is surely doomed with a browning top. The other is still alive, but I screwed these up. I'm going to start more seeds and change my methodology again. I'm reading up now. Once I decide on a plan I will probably forge ahead rashly and report on the consequen-, er, results later.

For now it's a flush for all, with beneficials. I also got new bulbs today for bloom: 3 600W HPS, and 1 600W MH conversion. In they go. The bulbs in there now are old. My mentor insisted on new bulbs every 8 months and usually did it at 6 months. I think they can go a bit longer, but I believe the ones in there now are over a year old. I can't find a record, but I'll sure start keeping one.

I already track how long it takes to use other consumables, like the various nutrients, the calibration fluids, the beneficials, and even the distilled water. It allows me to forecast my need over the next 2-3 months, which I use to make sure I always have enough consumables on hand to last that long. I'll start tracking bulb spans the same way and start scheduling regular change-outs.

In the meantime, my buds will get larger, and my plants will produce more. I strongly urge checking to make sure your bulbs aren't outdated.

Thanks Velodrone. The new setup will definitely be cool. It'll have Ikea kitchen cabinets. How can it not be cool? ;) I have a lot of plans and funding but little time, so it will be nice, but it will take a while to get there. :Namaste:

This weekend I'm going out of town, so nothing will get done on taping the drywall. I will have someone filling in for me and I'm going to let them do Sunday's flush Friday night, and I'll do Friday's feed on Sunday night when I get home. The person filling in knows how things work, but I don't want to wear out their free help, if you know what I mean. A flush is easy. Then they can just spritz the clones every night and it'll be cake.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

Pictures, anyone?

Here's veg. The sad little sprout is of course the surviving Afghani Hindu Kush (AHK). I can read the plant, so too much nutes too soon and too little light. Maybe it'll survive, but I now know more. I'll now pass this part I think next time, no doubt to be foiled by the next stupid mistake I make. Do you remember playing Dragon's Lair in the arcade, and having to learn what not to do by dying repeatedly? That's how this feels. It's OK - patience and persistence will teach me the right way.

Here's a current shot of the expansion. I hope to have it painted white before the weekend is over... I hope.

The rest of these are bloom. The first is the only BigBud x BlueMagoo (BBX) in bloom.

This next one is the Lavender (L).

The rest I am unsure about. The young ones are Matanuskan Thunderfuck (MTP) and Granddaddy Purps (GDP). The rest are some BBX and some L. I was pretty ripped when I was shooting last night, and I'm pretty stoned now, so... 🤷 Enjoy.

Re: Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - 2009

This morning I started a couple seeds soaking. Here's what I did.

I'm going to ramble off some science as I go. The bit I provide is pretty basic and I'm fairly confident I am correct, but of course if anyone spots an error in either facts or technique, please speak up. It's more important that the info be correct, and not so important that I am right, if you know what I mean.

  1. I mixed 2 oz H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) with 10 oz distilled water (H2O). That reduces the 3% H2O2 to a 1/2% solution. This will not harm the plant but will eliminate pathogens. In three days all the H2O2 will have emitted an oxygen (O) atom and turned to plain water. In the meantime, the emitted O atoms will bind to something else. Some pair up to become O2 (oxygen molecules), but both O and O2 are highly oxidative.
Here comes some science, in the least scientific terms I can manage and still be reasonably accurate. Oxidation is the same process that underlies rust, fire, and cleaning priceless art works. Each atom in nature has a fixed number of neutrons and protons in its nucleus. That total for a given atom is it's atomic number and determines what element it is. Google periodic table to see what each number is. Oxygen is 8 on the chart. 8 bodies in the nucleus needs to balanced by 8 electrons.
Those electrons run in 'orbits' which are not really circles around the atom, but more like regions of probability. That is, the electron is probably somewhere in there at any given time. There is a fixed set of 'orbits', and each 'orbit' best holds a certain number of electrons. Too many or too few in an 'orbit' or in total compared to the nucleus, and the atom is looking to give away or steal one from another atom. That's the basis of chemistry.
Atoms will sometimes 'share' electrons so they can both reach their ideal balance. They cling together as a result and form molecules. Other molecules are held together due to polarity, like little magnets. Oxygen, compared to other atoms, really, really wants to combine with other atoms that have electrons to share. That process in fire is rapid and gives off huge amounts of heat and light in the process. Rusting steel is just oxygen burning the steel in slow motion. Same process, but far slower. Fine art is sometimes restored by oxidizing the crud off with a fine stream of oxygen atoms. Done right the painting is unharmed and well cleaned. Oxyclean and clones depend on the same basic process. Oxidization is incredibly widespread and useful. What would we do without oxygen atoms, eh? Think about it.
All the free oxygen atoms then are hell reborn for the single cell and viral elements nearby. It destroys them with oxidization. The seed, like most other multicellular organisms will not be harmed at 1/2% H2O2 however, leaving it clean. Just don't go stronger. That's 1 oz H2O2 for every 5 oz distilled water.
OK, enough with the science, and back to the process. You can tell I'm stoned, because I don't shut up.
  2. Into that I added a few drops of Big Foot. If you don't have Big Foot available, it's 1% kelp extract and 0.5% humic acid. You can find something equivalent or buy them individually and dilute/mix as needed. This is a good mixture for rooting, and letting a trace soak into the seed with the water will help. I also added a few drops of yucca extract to help penetration.
  3. Then I carefully pH'ed it to 6.19 (looking for 6.10-6.30). Be careful - this little amount will change pH very quickly and it's easy to overshoot. Once it was balanced I poured about 2 oz into each of the 3 oz cups. Any glass or mug will work. At least 1/2" deep so you can see the seeds sink vs. float.
  4. I marked each cup for the strain going into it, and then I dropped the seeds in. I only did one of each of two strains, so they each got their own cup, but if you start more than one seed of the same strain don't forget they can share a cup.
  5. I placed them in a rarely-used upper cupboard in the kitchen. They'll be slightly warmer than room temp, dark, and undisturbed.
  6. I put an inverted glass over each to keep out dust and whatever else is in the air. A piece of paper layed across the top would have worked just as well.
  7. A couple times today I will poke them to promote sinking, but with a clean popsicle stick, not my finger. Anything that refuses to sink over time has air trapped inside and likely is dead.
  8. They will soak for at least 24hrs. Sometime tomorrow I'll move on to transplanting. More on that when we get there.

Sorry to go all science-y on you, but, well, that's what I do. I like to share anything I've learned. The more you know, and all.
