Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

re: Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

Hey guys and gals of 420Mag, I have been working feverishly for the past 2 days to get everything in readiness for an extended absence. Yes, friends, I, jandre2k3, will not be here for five days straight. I'm heading to the mountains to find The Mother and get out of this pollution filled place I call home(for now) and get my head together. Depression has been slowly creeping in and invading my very being and almost every thought for a long time. It's time to head to some naturally running water, and let Her wash it all away. It will be a new moon, the perfect time for what I'm planning. The new moon has long since been the time for letting things go and starting new. This is what I plan to do. Some equate the new moon with death, and in a sense it does for me as well. Death to these feelings and thoughts that taint my life and ruin my days with bouts of over-reaction to little things with high amounts of anger. My life has become slovenly and I like it not. I no longer wish to sit idle and let it happen, it's time to go something about it.

To wit, I will be out of touch for a week. No cell, no computer, just me, my precious family, and whatever nature has to offer. I leave tomorrow, and should be back on Friday. I will do a picture update before I leave, but, have more pressing matters to attend to. You guys have been very kind and understanding of my ups and downs, but it seems that the downs are dominating. This will not do.

Good luck with finding your happy place, Jandre. I know how tough it can be to be depressed, and I understand what you are struggling with a little I think. I hope you find comfort, peace and happiness in these 5 days. :goodluck:

re: Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

2 Purple Widow have been removed from Phase 2 leaving 13... Not a rooting failure. I'm not sure what made them fail, they just wilted and died. Roots were white and healthy, no tell-tale slime of diseased roots. Nothing on the foliage to suggest anything wrong. I stand perplexed.

Another out of phase 1, and then there were 10.

I have to get a handle on this... I'm going to dial back the watering frequency.

re: Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

No Brown leaves, no yellow leaves, white roots. Dissection of rockwool cube showed healthy, white roots with an absence of any sign of ill health. Plant, while green, and previously showing new growth, looks to have just wilted and died for no apparent reason.

My suspicions on this is that while the mother plants above enjoy the frequent watering every three hours, and prove it be growing faster than I've ever seen and almost tripling white root growth, the newer plants below while some seem to flourish in this, others seem to decline rapidly. While to me it seems to be culling the weak, I worry that I will lose the entire crop and have nothing left in three weeks to flower.

By lowering watering frequency to every 6 hours, this, hopefully will confirm my suspicions, and stop the rate of failure that I am experiencing now. If not, I will have to completely break down the lower vegetative bin and completely inspect every element in search of the culprit. There is one other possibility that is nagging in the back of my mind. I feel I might not have properly rinsed all the chlorine bleach from the bin in the last cleaning before implementing it into the veg area and the decline is evidence of this. We shall see.

Great set up. You have got to have the most scientific and organised set up I've read about anywhere. Great work and best of luck. sad about the lamb's bread it was one of the legends back in my youth (late 70's). so good that everyone called anything real good lamb's bread for a few years afterward though we never saw the read deal again. I be following a long for the full ride til 2013 hopefully. Best wishes to you and the girls, T. :peace:

Don't count out the Lamb's Bread yet! I still have the mother! Momma Lamb's Bread. She will be a part of this grow yet, just you wait.

re: Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

Okay, so I broke the entire system down tonight and inspected all of the clones and washed out the hydrotone and the bin. Three of the clones spanning both phases had tan roots. I added 1/4 cup of H2O2 3% to 5Gallons of nutrients. Too much I know, but even more than those three felt a bit slimy, like the water had soured on the roots. The Hydrotone in the bin was a little slimy in places so I wanted to knock that out ASAFP. I'm running the pump wide open right now, and will for the next 15min. Then I will put everything back on "Auto" and wait . . . This is the part I hate... The wait. I now know that the clones cannot handle the three hour cycles. I will be building a separate delivery system just for the clones, I think. I'll see how it is in four days.

Ugh! Minus one more GFB clone from Phase1. I'm hoping that's the last of them, or I'm going to be trashing the whole bin and starting new. That might be blowing off steam, but it might not be. so.... yeah.

At last, at last! The dieoff has been arrested!(/knockwood\) It seems it just needed a shot of H2O2 to stop it. I did have one more die after that; must have been too far gone, but the spread has stopped.

TOTAL: 22 plants left. Sheesh! Lost a total of 10 (31%). I need to investigate sooner, I guess. When one or two fail in a clone group, I need to open the starter cube and make sure it wasn't for some infection that started, I suppose. Not used to handling these many clones at once anymore I guess. It's wierd, I used to run batches of 30 - 50 and never really had this bad ratio of losses. I guess I just got rusty over two decades of not growing.

subd and glad to hear you got it sorted, hope the week away was what you needed mate, i could do with the same, but got no chance, i got put up with this miserable existance,

loving the setup mate, hope you got it all sorted and dialed in now, are you still watering at 6 hours instead of the 3 and are you going to go back up to the 3 now it sorted or are things happy as they are,

Happy with the Veg at 6 for now. I'm not understanding why 3 was too much, because it isn't for the other plants, but hey, whatever. I guess they're just too small for that much water.

re: Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

I believe it was Mr. Smith, who dropped into my journal once apon a time...I was running a 10 gallon Diy bubble cloner, using 2" netpots and rockwool. He promptly informed me that I had chosen a poor medium. Now, obviously in plain DWC, this is true. I'm not familiar with RDWC or any other hydro setup for that matter, but one thing remains the same. Rockwool holds a lot of water, and once saturated, doesn't really "rinse" well, even with the introduction of new fluid...I wonder if your clones were drowning...
