Celt’s 2020 Grows

This is only the second time I have tried Autos and I have never tried topping them. I didn’t have real good luck (size wise) with the DDAs so this time because I was trying Mega Crop and hempy style, I decided that other than removing a few small lower limbs a few days ago, and tying some down to open her up, I wouldn’t push it  Still learning about Autos and have never done hydro before

Hey Celt! Read through the whole journal (didn't "like" anything though to keep your notifications down ;) ) with particular interest in the seed-making process.

I was wondering if you could give me some direction regarding the timing for flowering my Candidas for seeds? I want to put the male and female together in a box to cross-pollenate, so I need to know when to start which part of the process.

I would think I start flowering the female before the male since I want fully developed pistils before the pollen sacs mature. Candidas take about 10 days to begin to show pistils if that helps.

How long do you think it will take before the pollen starts to fly, because I'm thinking that the female should be at least 3 weeks into flower before I pollinate to maximize seed production, since I'm working with small plants in 1 gallon pots.

Also, since my scale doesn't read hundredths of a gram, should I just go with a tenth and move up the amount of water? Wasting a bit of GA3 doesn't seem like too big a deal given how little it takes.

:thanks: in advance!

Hey @InTheShed , been busy as a one armed bandit on pension day, and not been on much lol

After my recent disappointing results with the Pineapple Chunk:

I only found 9 seed that I thought might germinate (6 I gave to my mate that gifted me the plant) I was able to germinate 1 of the 3 I kept and will try again in the fall when I return to indoor gardening.

Here is what I would recommend for future grows and likely suit your situation as well.

Follow the procedure for the GA3 (spraying 5 days before flip) and start the male-to-be 2 weeks before the seed barer. I suggest this because the PC was a slow producer, 4 weeks before noticeable pollen and I believe seeing the seed produced, that the pollen wasn’t viable until about 5-6 wks post flip. Much slower than the Blue Dream but she seems to be a fast maturer too.

The pollen was viable right up to about 10 weeks as well, I used some collected about then to try a small branch on my BD grow and got 8 seed.

I decided after this less than stellar performance that the males should be started 2 weeks ahead of the females.

As for mixing your GA3, mix 0.3g in 2 litres, even if it is actually reading 0.3g on your scale, you will still be under 180ppm and they recommend 150-200ppm so the scale need not read to 100ths of a gram.

Hope this hopes mate :)

Anytime @InTheShed ,

I am starting back to work today so will not have the time I have had the past 6 months but I will be popping in to see how this goes for you just not as active as I had been lol

Self crossing is warned against for the reasons that I mentioned went wrong with my PC grow and I will be using clones for that purpose in the future so I can start the male-to-be 2 weeks early as mentioned. :)

Morning all,

Sorry for be slack updating, started a new job and this time of year, life gets in the way when the weather is good. Anyway, quick update on my grows.

The indoor grows are long done and tents/lights shut down for now. The Blue Dream in the big tent has been harvested, most of which is going to hash and oil due to the unintentional seeding. I haven’t weighed anything but the best bud saved for smoking which amounts to about 1/2 lb, leaving about 1.5lbs for hash and oil.

That leaves only 3 plants in the nursery, a purple hash plant, a Blueberry and a Pineapple Chunk that will all become mothers.

That leaves the outdoor girls to continue the show for the next few months, and here’s what going on with them.

First up, the Gorilla Shizzle Auto I started inside and decided that 15-16hrs under the sun would be better that 20hrs under 400w of LED.

She is being fed 1/2 gallon of 6g/gal Mega Crop daily.

Next up, the 4 Blue Dream in the garden

This last girl has 3 limbs per node, was topped once and is being spread using sod staples to bring her out wide and low. The leafy plant to her left is spearmint.

Lastly, we have a Cluster Bomb in a 20gal tote of coco, hempy style and being fed 2 gallons of 6g/gal Mega Crop. She went out 3 weeks ago and did little for the 1st week, staying about 4” tall. Then once she got her legs under her, she exploded and grew 20 inches in the last 2 weeks and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Seeing how this girl took off, I ordered 25lbs of Mega Crop and have the Blue Dream twins I would like to grow the same way but the feed is on back order and I don’t dare start them until I know it’s being shipped or I could run out.

Other than a few other plants hiding in the bushes, that’s my grow to date.

Now I am going to try and catch up on a few journals, I am waaaaaay behind lol

Stay safe friends and happy growing :)

Thanks Celt! That's exactly what I was looking for. Tough to do with one plant but easy peasy with two.

I did often wonder if you could flip half a plant though!

Sorry I missed this bit about “flipping 1/2 a plant”. That’s a very interesting idea :) If the logistics of keeping one 1/2 of the plant under 12 hrs light and the other half under 16 hrs, without any light leaks, it may we’ll be possible.

Another option would be to spray the areas you want to produce pollen with the 150-200ppm GA3 and the rest of the plant with 500+ppm GA3. The areas sprayed with the higher concentration would be prevented from flowering, but for how long I don’t know, nor do I know what kind of flowers would be produced when that part of the plant did start to flower. I do know that some serious training would be required as GA3 causes mad stretch and you would soon run out of room if left go “au natural”.

Something interesting to investigate and if one of you reminds me in the fall, when things slow down and I get my grow rooms in better order, I would be willing to try it for the sake of knowledge. Lord knows I have plenty of BD seed to play with possible “lost causes”

Quick and partial update before I leave for work.

This girl was put in a 20 gallon tote of coco with a perlite reservoir at the bottom, hempy style on June 4th. She is getting Mega Crop at 6g/gal and was 4” tall when she went it.

Given how fast she grew on MC, I have 6 more plants that have been set up the same way to see if they respond as well. I will update again later in the week with pictures of them taken yesterday with comparison pictures at that time.

Time for an update as promised.

First up, the big girl in the 20g tote getting 6g/gal daily

That all for this week folks, next show in 7 days ;)

Hey all, I didn’t do a update yesterday as planned, got busy with friends I’ve not seen in months.

Thought I would do a smoke report on the Gorilla Shizzle auto I harvested a while back. I put in in a jar a couple weeks ago @70% rh and it’s been slowly coming down and curing, at 65% now.

I tried it at 70% and it was still too moist to smoke well, kept going out but the flavour was mild and not harsh. Faint taste almost like cucumber with an incense on the exhale.

Now that it has been maturing in its cure, @65% rh, it smokes better and the tastes are starting to develop. On the first draw, you get a slightly sweet lime impression with a sour lemon drop on the exhale with a slight oily fuel after taste. It’s definitely different than anything I’ve smoke previously.

As for the effect, seems to have a calming/relaxing feel without any couch lock effects. Also, it helps calm the storm of thoughts always crashing around in my head which is great when it comes time to sleep.

Well as I sit here, bored and unable to sleep even though I may have to work tonight, I thought I might as well take some pictures and do an update considering it’s nice and sunny out.

First up, the Cluster Bomb in the 20 gallon hempy tote. She is now 51” tall and started at 4” in the bucket the first week of June (4th or 5th I think)

Next, the Twins in their 15 gallon totes

This one has 3 tops that she did naturally, I have not cut her.

For some reason, the pictures of the other girls in 5 gallon buckets wouldn’t airdrop from phone to iPad but they are about the same as the one above.

Now for the girls in the garden with the giant pumpkin which has taken over the whole central plot and would like to climb my Blue Dream girls, keeping a close watch on this one to keep it from abusing my girls ;)
