GG7's Indoor/Outdoor Grows!

AAAAYYYYYY!!! Goose!! Got access to a pc and uploaded some pics, think you may enjoy buddy!!!!:peace:

YAY!!! :yahoo:

Thats GREAT NEWS GT! :bravo:

I'll head over there in a few and check em out! First I gotta go out back and water the jungle! The Tomatoes and Peppers are going nuts back there! We've already logged 30 pounds of Cherry tomatoes alone so far, with the ACEs just now turning red! Those big boys are going to be good!! I haven't been weighing the peppers as we take them off, but the yield is UP THERE!

Just like you guys have been seeing with the BBK and the GDP, this summer has been a banner year for growing stuff up here in the Sierra! Just the right temps, humidity etc. have all come together to produce a record breaking harvest for everything we planted this season! :thumb:

Speaking of which! I will be maling out your pepper seeds this week. Will try to get them in the mail today or tomorrow. Stay tuned for that!

WOW!!! Yall did well on that haul!! Our garden was kept small this year, but next year I'm thinkin 10 acres... Those red jalapenos will get a great spot!!! Thanks again Goose!!

Weekend Update #1 - Turbo Klone Session 3 Ends
NEW BC and NL Clones! - GDP #2 to Become a Bonsai Mother?

We began this last cloning session on August 18th which was run primarily to attempt to clone out our single Blue Cheese female plant that was harvested back in June and revegged outside. The two previous sessions failed to produce a single rooted cutting! The difficulty comes from the fact that before we were ready to start taking cuttings, the plant began to enter flowering again in late July! Much sooner than I had expected, and this unexpected development definitely complicated the cloning process. In addition to the BC cuttings, I decided to take three Northern Lights cuttings from the single Northern Lights female that we raised from those mostly irradiated DutchSeeds bought on the web.

Fast forward to today on Day #22 and we are pleased to announce that TWO MORE cuttings have rooted and were transplanted this morning.

A SECOND Blue Cheese clone and the third Northern Lights clone! The root spikes were not as developed as we normally like before trnasplanting, but I needed to get the cloner out of the way so I would have more room for more plants in the veg closet

GDP #2 to Become a Bonsai Mother!

After reading through Mr. Krip's great threads on creating Bonsai mother plants in order to save space, I decided to give this technique a try using our recently harvested GDP #2!

P1011708.JPG

It will obviously take awhile before she begins to respond to the veg light cycle and starts growing vertical again. I have decided to use a 20/4 veg cycle instead of a 24/0 having read on several online sources that giving the plants a short dark period won't make any difference to their reveg speed, and saves some energy and reduces heat for 4 hours starting at midnight. I am ready to start training GDP #2 as soon as the new growth begins to emerge. Hopefully, I didn't cut her back too far during the chop?

Now that the cloner is literally out of the way, I was able to put the much taller BBK #4 clone in that space under the 125 watt CFL normally reserved for the cuttings in the T48 .

P1011709.JPG

Here is the veg closet area today with everything visible except BBK #4 which is to the right of the plants shown here

P1011710.JPG

That concludes our first update for this weekend! In my next update I will feature the dried and curing buds from our two BBK harvests as well as from the harvest of GDP #2. :yummy:

Stay tuned! :thanks:

Nice job, GG7! :welldone:

I'm far from an expert in Bonsai, but from what I know, you should be fine with your GDP!

My understanding is that, as long as you leave some green growth on the lower branches, she'll re-veg and start throwing off new growth in a few weeks. You've definately got plenty of green growth there, so I'm sure you're good to go! :bravo:

Thanks Mr. Krip! :thumb:

Thats definitely what I wanted to hear! I had hoped that I had left enough on. I'm looking at this as a GDP insurance policy just in case I run into any problems cloning from the four clones I got from GDP #1. :)

Weekend Update II • Bud Porn!

Well... Thats all the bud porn I have to share at the moment! :) I'm going to try and get some new photos of the Purple Urkle, White Rhino and Northern Lights plants I have on the back hill tomorrow. We are currently having a pretty nasty wind storm up here right now, so hopefully I still have some plants left standing back there by the morning!

:thanks:

Those are some nice nugs. Dense and heavy. Congrats on the pull. How many times can you flower outdoor in a year? Tempting to try outdoor but will be somewhere remote, that would be fun. I got the digital microscope the other day, loving it! The quality is not as good as yours, a bit grainy, it's better than the lope for sure that thing hurts my eye. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Hey Twelve! :)

Thanks! :)

I too am definitely impressed with the yields I have been getting by using this indoor/outdoor flowering technique I kind of stumbled upon by accident.

To answer your question... Although I haven't actually tried this deliberately yet, I would say TWO times. If you used your indoor rig to trigger the cycle both times on each end of the growing season and finished outdoors both times while the natural light cycle was conducive to flowering.

You could start a batch under 12/12 indoors in say Mid March, then bring them outside to finish in late April when the daylight hours are still short enough to keep the plant in flower mode outside. After harvesting the first crop, you could then reveg outside naturally through mid July and then re-flower the same plant again indoors and let it finish outdoors again later in season.

I got the digital microscope the other day, loving it! The quality is not as good as yours, a bit grainy, it's better than the lope for sure that thing hurts my eye. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Very cool! It was my pleasure my friend! :thumb: Every serious grower should have a good scope at his or her disposal! :geek:

I wasn't expecting that the scope you bought would rival my Celestron, but now you can see the benefits of having that higher resolution and if you really get into using a microscope for trichome checking, then perhaps you can eventually pick up the same rig I have and feel fully justified in spending that extra cash? ;)

Speaking of using the same gear...

You mentioned being unhappy with your loupe? Perhaps you just haven't found the right one yet?

I'm always recommending the BeLOMO Triplet 10x Loupe that I use for spot checking out in the garden!

P1011683.JPG
P1011682.JPG

It has just the right amount of magnification to see the different stages of trichome degradation, but a wide enough field of view to cover a large swath of the bud at once, so you can easily "scan" an entire plant in less than a minute with the proper lighting. Outdoors it is a piece of cake!

Congrat's on another great harvest, GG7!!! Both the Blueberry and the GDP look absolutey delicious! :yummy:

Thanks Mr. K! :)

I was able to get the buds dried a little faster than usual, and into the curing jars a few days earlier. This then led to being able to get them into my final storage container/humidors early too! I'm still planning to cure them for a full 4 weeks before I will actually sample any of this stuff. I have found that when left to cure in this final moisture controlled container, the aroma, taste and overall buzz is optimized!

I've been using these "Humidipak" packets in the storage containers to keep the moisture levels optimized at 72% RH :thumb:

P1011747.JPG

I bought a few of these originally for use in my cigar/pipe tobacco humidors, and they worked so well in those, I decided to try them in my long term bud storage containers with equally satisfying results!

One is plenty for anything under 1.5 ounces. For larger amounts, like my two BBK harvests, I use two. One stuck to the front and one to the back with a piece of adhesive label material. :) They seem to last a VERY long time! I still have water in some that I bought over a year ago.

They keep the bud at the perfect moisture level. Not too dry and not too wet.:thumb::yummy:

Those things look pretty cool! The info I had read on curing says to jar the buds when the RH drops below 70%, and above 70% RH can cause mold.

However, I'm guessing that those packets are 72% RH and don't actually make the buds 72% but help prevent the buds from drying too quickly. I believe the humidity would move from an area of higher concentration to lower concentration, so, if the buds were above 72% RH (too high) the packet wouldn't effect them at all, but once the bud RH drops below 72%, the packet helps slow the drying process.

This sounds like a good thing! I did notice my fully cured buds at about 55% RH were more dry than I expected, but not "crumbly".

Where'd you pick them up?

Exactly! It works just the way you said!

I got mine from a tobacco shop, but I imagine that you could find them online too? I've got about a dozen on hand so I haven't needed to buy more yet. As I said, they tend to last a very long time!

Never have had any mold problems with them. I've got some older bud here that has been stored with one of these for over 18 months and it still looks, smells and tastes like it did when I first put it in the container, but with the added benefit of all that curing/aging time! :thumb:

I've never been a big fan of freezing or refrigeration methods. I figured that if these could help keep my cigars and pipe tobacco fresh for years in a humidor, it should work for Cannabis bud!

I'm here to say that it does... IN SPADES! :)

HomeMade Clearex Recipe!
Make Your Own Flushing Solution for Pennies on the Dollar!

I have posted this recipe on a few other journals and threads around here, but I have never made an official post in my own journal complete with my usual photo documentation. Until now! :thumb:

This recipe makes 2 liters worth which should last most home growers an entire season

Combine the following dry ingredients in a saucepan along with 2 Liters of Fresh RO Water...

120 grams of Dextrose (I use Coopers Brand - Used for Beer Making)
60 grams of Sucrose (Your Common White Table Sugar)
1.5 grams Sodium Benzoate (* Optional as a preservative)
1-2 drops of Green or Blue Food Coloring (For Effect! + Makes it Obvious It Isn't Just Plain Water)

P1011748.JPG

In order to fully dissolve the Sodium Benzoate into solution, I heat the mixture to 200 degrees on the stovetop. This ensures that all of the sugars and preservative are dissolved evenly into solution.

p1011757.JPG

* If you keep the mixture in the freezer till needed, you can skip adding the preservative. But BE WARNED! Sugar water grows bacteria like gang-busters so you either freeze the product till needed or use the preservative. I prefer to use the preservative so I can store the finished product at room temperature indefinitely along with all my commercial additives.

Just like the commercial version, you use 15ml of this mixture per gallon of water for flushing.

The finished product ready for use on your flowering plants!

Enjoy! :thumb:

GG7 i just ordered the BeLOMO Triplet 10x Loupe on your recommendation. Hope
I like it as much as you do.

Hey Dexter!

Congrats! :thumb:

A high quality loupe like the Triplet 10x is an indispensable tool for any serious grower! I can't imagine trying to time a harvest without mine! ;)

I'm confident you will appreciate the quality of both the optics as well as the all metal construction. :)

The best 10x loupe you can buy in my opinion! :thumb:

Let us know how you like it when it arrives. :)

Weekend Update III • Back Hill Revisted
New Photos of Purple Urkle, White Rhino and Northern Lights

With all of the harvests and other activities going on around here lately, the plants silently growing on our back hill have really started to show some changes! In addition to all of them now well into natural flowering, we were finally able to sex the remaining seed grown plants and our tallest White Rhino appears to be MALE! We will start with that!

Now just under 9.2 feet in height, White Rhino #1 revealed its sex in the last 36 hours and it is clearly MALE! We are now seriously considering the idea of letting it continue to develop and pollenate some of our Purple Urkle females! It might be kind of cool to have some "Purple Rhino" seeds for next season!

And finally, a couple of shots of GDP #1's flower tops.

The plant hasn't shown much in the way of new growth since all the soil problems we had to deal with last week. The plant is obviously still alive, but it is looking like the ultimate yield will be markedly reduced from what we had been expecting.
