New Years update - 2020 style!

Let’s start the new year out with something new, eh? New year, new life (hopefully).

I took some cuttings from Nightingale (3), Candida (3) and Hiydrow (2). I’ve only successfully made clones one other time and only 3 of 7 made it... All I really need is for one Candida and one Nightingale to make it, the rest will be gravy.
Until I see roots, this will be me -
I used clean snips to cut the stems at an angle and then dip n grow (Shed). I set up my little 75w (seriously blurple) led next to the blooming tent; and that’s where they shall stay, until it’s time to be planted or time to go to the garbage. I’m keeping them nice and spritzed with water and I’ll add a hygrometer in there tomorrow so I can watch the humidity.

Obviously those little cuttings came from somewhere, so I’ll move on to the photo tent!

I gave them all a good trimming because it was a friggin jungle in there. Seriously, the rh was knockin on 70.. it felt like a legit jungle. It took me about an hour to trim them all back and I felt like I had been in the friggin sauna! I took before and after pictures of a couple, for example’s sake. I always feel so much better after they’re cleaned up, like I can breathe again!

I switched the girls around a bit, so I only have an after trimming, group photo today.

I’ll let them recover for a couple/few days and then we will fliiiiiiip!

I didn’t get a chance to set up the new microscope, so that will be tomorrow’s project. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some auto trichs pics up soon!

Great job Hh some very happy ladies in the tent. Nice work with the defoilation that really opened them up no more sweaty ladies and those lower nodes will be basking in all that wondrous light.

Little tip I found with cloning is keeping the pellet moist by spraying it with a water bottle when it gets a little dry. I found that was more effective then spraying the leaves because I found there was more than enough humidity when the dome is on.

Excellent thinning job and my wife has those same socks! For the cuttings, I have always heard to spray the dome and not the leaves. You want the cutting to be forced to get its water from below the surface rather than suck it up from the leaves.

I was thinking of doing a combo/transition with yours and N420’s advice. Spray the dome more at the beginning, as they’re root building. Then as time goes, move to more of a puck spray focus, so they have to stretch those legs out. Yay? Nay?

Oh definitely keep the puck damp (I never had luck in a puck, but that was before DnG). I was talking only about spraying the leaves.

Well hideout gang, I tried setting up the microscope... it works, I just haven’t figured out how to take a picture that isn’t 100% blur. I got super frustrated to say the least. Eventually I just got out the old loupe and got a couple pics just to spare myself from fixating on it the rest of the day!

I know they’re not close yet, but now I really know. Geez, I’m hoping it doesn’t take more than a couple weeks. I’m starting to get annoyed and impatient!

While she was out, I took a couple of OG #1 pics.

I’ll keep trying to figure that usb microscope out. It took nice zoomed in pics, just got to figure out how to keep it steady enough to not blur.

Thanks carcass I think you’ll be happy with it. It’s good you’re getting it now, you’ll have lots of time to get good at using it. You seem like a much more patient person than I am, maybe you’ll be just fine.

I’ve got an abbreviated update for today. I’m fighting a back-of-the-head headache and I know you will all forgive me.

I have a few girls in the photo tent that are spreading out a little too wide for my liking now. Planning was not my strength for this grow. But, we adapt and roll with it, right?

This morning I was reminded of a grow of Newty’s, where she trained each stem out and then up at a sharp angle. I’m gonna adopt and modify that idea a bit to try to get these girls to stay in their lane! Preston’s often look like the shape I’m going for too.

I made a slight supercrop and then tied them in place (shown in red), so they have a nice elbow shape (shown in green). It did make the 4 mains taller than the middles, I gave them a pinch and we’ll see how it goes after stretch. More than anything I need them to have enough room for all 6 in there, so I might have to sacrifice the even canopy this time around. We shall see.

I did this to the 4 mains on Hiydrow and Nightingale. I’ll wait and see how it turns out before I go any further with it. But they are at least taking up less space now.

The clones are going between looking droopy and really droopy. I’ll try to fiddle with it later after I feel better.

And for the last piece of this update, a question: how do I read trichs on a purple, 1:1 cbd plant? I grabbed a couple quick pics, let me know what you think.

I’m not even sure what I’m looking for with these trichs! I’ve seen some patches of still clear or halfsies, so I’m sure they’re not done yet, but maybe soon?

I’m not even sure what I’m looking for with these trichs!

I'd start in white light, and then try to focus on just the heads of the trichomes. Even when they're purple you might still be able to tell clear from cloudy.

And once the plant recovers from the bend, you can re-bend the leaders up higher and flatten the canopy again. Well-remembered!
