ThinkFab's First Grow - Mids in a Tub

Re: ThinkFab's first grow....mid's in a tub

I think I'm at 8 days since germination, but for some reason, I feel that I could grow them faster. Maybe when I move to a bigger location, with better lighting. I will deffinatly use the larger pots to start, on the next grow. Fortunately, the pants look great after the transplant. I feel as though the bat guano made a good difference the growth of my plants.

Re: ThinkFab's first grow....mid's in a tub

Thanks bluedog. The lime seems to work good. The main thing I'm trying to do right now, is to get the humidity up. even putting the tub into my closet, and my humidifier being on high, only got me to ~ 40%.

I'm always right about 40% too, but I'm not sure I trust my cheapo humidity gauge.

Mine was cheap too, but setting on the humidifier outlet proved it works. weather or not it works correctly is a different story.

Can't wait to get home from work.....
The next update pics are going to show a nice difference.:)

I like to use bat guano threw every stage of my grow.i find tea's made from bat guano to work the best. They also flush out real fast so as not to interfear with regular feeding and it never seams to burn my plants:rollit:

Re: ThinkFab's first grow....mid's in a tub

As said befor, I have some update pics. They are starting to grow much faster now. The third set of leaves are starting to show! I can only imagine how big they will be this weekend.

I'm really liking this forum. Not only is there tons of info, but every one is very nice. I guess I'm just used to car forums, where so many people just like to talk trash. Thanks for being so welcoming to a noob.

Re: ThinkFab's first grow....mid's in a tub

I know exactly what you mean ThinkFab. I belong to some other forums that I don't frequent nearly as much as this one, for the sole reason that they are mostly immature kids that just want to feel tough on the internet.

I have yet to have a bad encounter on this forum. There is simply none other like it!

Also, plants are looking sweet. Big, fat indica leaves! Can't wait to see what these babies can do!

Re: ThinkFab's first grow....mid's in a tub

I can't wait to plant the new seed! Hopfully it cracks soon.

I took two more pics for today, and added two more cfl 6500 k bulbs. In the next update or two, I think I'm going to be added the upper portion of the grow box.

Re: ThinkFab's first grow. mid's in a tub

A couple more pics from the last couple days. Its really starting to look like progress in my little grow tub. The purple seed cracked today, and so she (hopefully) has joined her sisters (also hopefully) in the grow tub.

Re: ThinkFab's first grow. mid's in a tub

Thanks, I wish I had a nice macro camera for this, but I have to use my phone for everything in this thread.

On another note, my girlfriend found 10 more seeds in her purp last night. This is going to turn out to be something worth while after all.

Re: ThinkFab's first grow. mid's in a tub

I'm happy to say, the NYC diesel seed cracked, and has been planted. I now have 4 plants, with 2 more purple seeds germinating. I think 6 plants total will fit in the tub without much of a problem.

The soil and media used was much different than the first two pots, and I'm hoping to see some good results from it.

The pots were first filled with 2 inches of pea stone, for added drainage.

Then I mixed in the last of my organic miracle grow soil with the hoffman soil, guano, blood worms, and lime.

Looking good ThinkFab! Have you ever made your own soil before?

This may sound counter-intuitive, it did to me, but adding gravel to the bottom of your pot won't improve drainage. What it will do is effectively reduce the volume of your pot by that amount, because of the perched water table. That means your soil is going to retain x amount of water regardless of medium it's sitting on.

If you want to improve drainage you should put a wick in the bottom inch or two of soil, and have it exit the bottom of the pot via a hole.

If you want more info search DocBud's threads for perched water table, there's a lot of talk about it.

Thanks for the info, and I have been reading into soil and drainage since you said something about it. I guess I just feel like my soil holds to much water in the bottom of the pot. I will be looking into the wick idea, but I dont think it will be applied into this grow.

Now for some more pics.

the purple is looking so-so. I think it had something to do with the light being to close when it sprouted.

The NYC diesel is up. I'm really hoping this one is a fem, because it is a huge favorite around the house.

Just watered these two after taking pics of them, and decided I should check the runoff. The ph was at 5, but they get feed with 6.5-7 ph water. Either way, I'm not gonna mess with them if they like it.

The properties of the water the plants get.

The runoff of both of the larger pants. They look almost identical. Besides ph values, this looks good, am I correct?

Until next time, thanks for stopping by, and for lending opinions, suggestions, and facts. I couldn't do it without you guys.
:thanks:

planted another purp seed. Trying out a different soil mix. I want to go to hempy style, but dont have the nutes for it. I ended up mixing 2/3 perlite and 1/3 soil. Dont really have anything to lose, so why not try something different?
