Winter 2022 Gro & Flo Run

This morning while checking the ladies the reservoir was down just over 3 gallons so I added the 3 gallons back with RO, last added water two days ago. The EC was down to 0.6, so I added 30 ml each of Micro and Bloom which brought the EC back to 0.9, spot on. The pH was perfect at 6.01. The ladies are drinking well and taking up nutrients like they should be. The fan leaves are the size of my hand so I removed a few from each plant the were covering other bud sites. Will do a lite defoliation this coming week in preparation for flowering which should start in a few weeks. I know not everyone is a fan of defoliation but I have been doing it on my plants for years/ Very lite defoliation to a bit over the top, but have always had good yield numbers.
Have had to be careful removing the fan leaves as these plants do not like to be messed with and tend to want to break bud shoots. My buddy who I got the clones from said he broke a lot when working on his plants.

I have not been able to cover the Hydroton do to the emitters I am using and during early growth a little algae began forming on the surface, but now that the leaves are covering the Hydroton the algae has subsided and is non existent now. When I do the lollypop on the plants over the next few weeks I will be able to add a reflective film layer over the surface of the Hydroton and not have to worry about the light causing algae growth.
One thing I have noticed is the growth of the plants is amazing. I thought that I got good growth with my Coco/Perlite grows but this Gro & Flo system is out growing any of my Coco grows at least by half or more. I am astonished every morning when I open the tent.
Another thing I am liking is the way the Blueberry has responded, it was planted from a small clone 10 days after the LSD's went into the pots and has caught up to the other plants in size. Cool Beans!

Y'all have a very Happy New Years! If you go out please be careful.
Great update.
Garden is amazing. :welldone:
Hope you have a wonderful year Buddy. :high-five:

Thanks Bill, I really missed growing this year due to my health issues but am about as good as this old man is going to get so I plan on enjoying my grows as long as I am able. My son wants me to teach my 14 yr old grandson how to grow but I told him I want to wait a few more years, don't want him doing cannabis until he is a bit more developed. He plays all sports in school and is on the honor roll, so proud of him.

Everyone have a Happy New Years, stay safe while ringing in the new year!

We decided to take a look at the roots today.
All plants but one are LSD and the one is the Blueberry.
Here is the Blueberry, was transplanted into the pot on 12/19 and looked like this.

Did a little tie down today. Nothing major and only broke one bud site.
The Blueberry! This is the one that I broke a bud site. Tried taping it up but no luck.

Eight days since last root pics and 31 days since transplant into the Gro & Flo buckets. Drinking well and taken up nutrients. About 2 gallons per day and EC dropping 0.1 per day. Have been adding water and nutrients every couple of days.

Going to do a minor trim tomorrow and Tuesday, plants very thick with lots of big fans, in prep to start flowering in a week or two.
Am very pleased with the color of the ladies and the root growth.
Will also be adding a copper screen this week to bottom of outer pots. Going to see if it will prevent the roots from plugging the drain holes.

Did a reservoir change today, 30 gal RO, 40 ml GH Micro & Bloom, 30 ml Rapid Start, 90 ml Hydroguard.
EC 0.8 pH 5.87

Did a defoliation on Monday and tied the ladies down.

Changed the reservoir Wednesday and everything is stable. Checking it this morning, they are drinking well, will add three gallons RO, adjust the nutrients and check the pH later today. The level of the solution is down two inches, with EC dropped to 0.7 and a pH of 5.76. L ooking good and healthy, recovered from the defoliation and they have responded well.

Will tie them down again later today or tomorrow. I want to go into flower next week or the following at the latest.
Here they were tied down on Monday afternoon.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I am considering adding two more buckets to the existing 6 that are in the tent now.
In the pic below you can see there is room for the two buckets in the center of the rows. I have two unused ports on the Orbit 8 port manifold so it should work well. Will need to increase the reservoir size by 6 gallons, from 30 gallons to 36 gallons. That should fill the 5 X 5 tent to it's full potential. I am looking for a screen of some sort too use during flower to spread the plants.

January 20, 2023, a day that will live in infamy, the start of GR's LSD and Blueberry flower cycle.

After trim

Had a little screw up! When I trimmed the above plant, my third of the day, I had removed the plant from the tent and to do that I took the Rainbird emitter out of the bucket and forgot to put it back in. At the 9 pm cycle time I went to the shop and saw water on the floor of the shop. It had been watering about 5 minutes before I got to the shop and had water in the drip tray and it had also sprayed outside the drip tray. Figure there was a 5 to 6 gallon spill, and it took about an hour to clean it up, refill the reservoir and add nutrients back and pH. Did not take much to pH, the Torus perfect XpH is doing it's job. All was well in the tent this morning.
Set the control bucket solution timer to 6 cycles per 12 hour light cycle.

Hey @gr865, sorry late arriving.

Your grow is going great guns, interesting to see the ebb n flow method. It is way more involved than I am used to, but very cool to see.

I wondered if it is safer to avoid breaks when bending the stems, if you just super cropped them a bit. I think it was you who I first saw someone supercropping with pliers. But I've since adopted the practice and with a couple of wraps of tape around the jaws it's very good at bending a stem without breaking, which is something I'd often do with fingers. I recently have done dozens of supercrops with pliers and not had one break, and I've done them on stems that would have been too woody for fingers to do. Anyway you know far more about training them than I do, so I am just happy to watch and learn!
