Edge's Grow Journal

Im thinking about going to the led light instead of spending another $30 on a t5 to make it through another week. While there still in solo cup perhaps start at 30-36" and if they stretch i can bury them more in the next pot. Might be easier to get use to the light distance and inch it down. Then have them on a 18/6 cycle. Exciting and a bit worried having never done this lol. Guesse i have the work day to think on it.

I'd start using the LED at 30",even though it may look kind of "funny" to have that much
light going on for four little seedlings, they will grow in to it real soon.
I don't think you'll get any "stretch" at 30",but if you do you can either lower the light a bit,
or sit them on a cardboard box or something to raise them up a bit (whichever one's easier for you)
You're definitely not going to hurt them.

Seedling day 7
72 Degrees, 57RH
No need to water again today, 2nd day.

I took out the t5 light and setup the led 30-31" away from the tops. Man this things bright. I only turned on the veg stage, so i assume its only drawing half the watts because bloom isnt on. 150 draw watts id assume, unless im wrong?? Also can you use bloom in veg stage for full spectrum and better growth?? Perhaps i should wait a few weeks to do so as that would double the watts? Setting timer for 18/6, 6pm to 12pm to setup and avoid the summer heat during daytime. They all grew a tad bit more and also the pics look way better under the t5, used my camera flash.

Im really hoping the led brings up the tent temp, as the t5 and heat mat were only hitting 68 to 72. I would like sit at 75 to 78. We shall see. Its already climbing typing this. If so i will remove the heat mat. Gonna be 65 in michigan tomorrow too. Yay!

I need to get a closeup of bluberry #2, as looks like the first set of leaves split to make 4, kinda weird. Both blueberrys have some purple color by new growth spots.
Blackberry is still at large!

How do I know when to raise or lower my light now? Do i let them grow into it at leave it where its at until about 2ft away, then sustain the 2ft. This part is all new to me with light distance so any help is greatly appriciated. Thank you! Salute!

Would anyone know why these leave are drooping unlike yesterday? or perhaps thats normal from the weight? I just noticed. The top in or 2 is very dry but the bottom still says its wet. Wondering if i should water or wait til tomorrow.

Update: I gave them a drink actually, they were pretty dry and took a ton of water before i saw it barely drain out. Looks like every 2 days(48hrs) is the sweet spot. Only thr bottom half inch showed moist on my meter after further investigation. Hope i didnt water to early but i think she needs it to perk back up! Gusse i will find out and learn.

I would hope its beacuse of needing to drink and not because the light is too intense!

Not drooping,just normal.

Blueberry#2 is still "funny",But I think she'll end up ok in the long run.
I've had a few do that-the first 2 sets of leaves are just not normal, but by the third set they usually straighten out if they're going to.
2 of the worst looking seedlings I've ever sprouted ,turned into 2 of the best plants I've grown,so a rough start doesn't necessarily mean she's not going to end up just fine,or even better.

Thank you for the input! I appricate it very much! Hopefully i didnt water too soon then, but they were pretty dang thirsty!

As long as the cups feel pretty light when you water, you won't hurt them.

If you overwater them, the leaves will start to look "puffy" (for want of a better term) and curve downward,"pointing at their roots" as Emilya says...

That's when you can tell you're watering on your schedule, not theirs.

Right now,they're looking good!

Seedling day 8
Temp 67/77 RH 55%
No need to water

The led light brought the temp up just right. One meter says 76 and other says 79 degrees. I only have one of two fans on low, no exhaust on yet. I feel im in a good temp position once summer comes in a few months. Smooth sailing for april and may veg stage. Woohoo. Winter would be prime energy savings thought. I did the math and im using about $16-$20 month in veg stage in electricity. Flower might be more in summer with AC and dehumidifier though.

They havent streched, still measure the same, light is at a good distance i think.

2nd set of leaves growing good. Im wondering why blackberrys leaves are twisting?? Maybe the fan since its closest?? I moved the fan angle.

Im reading that may mean accelerated growth faster then nature intended, a good thing, sounds right as she is blowing up faster now seems like. Or perhaps it the led light, hmmmmm.. i hope im worried over nothing

Seedling day 10
Temp 78/66, RH 55%
They needed a drink this morning. Dry soil and my meter was showing barely moist on the bottom.
I think Blackberry was telling me she is thirty because the leaves seemed down, not sure if thats why or if thats normal?

If Blackberry's leaves were a little droopy at lights on,she was probably thirsty,so
I'm sure you did the right thing.
They're all looking good-even blueberry#2 seems to be straightening herself out !

They perked back up, im starting to see when they tell me things more. Blueberry #2 is so fugly lol. I will only be keeping 2 which will go in 5gals, but imma keep #2 going just because. It would be hard to fit 3 in 5gals in my tent and keep the humidifier and fan in there only being 2x4

I know what you're saying about space-I'm growing in a temporary (till I can convince the wife I need a real tent) 2x2x44" box right now, with 3 plants ,and it's getting tight in there already.
I've got my fan hanging on the wall to blow down on the plants, saves some floor space for "better things".

Day 14
Temp 78/68, RH 50
They were thirsty, blackberry was yellin for water with those droopy leaves.

They are growing fast, especially blackberry. When do i transplant this thing??? I was thinking a few more days?? I see a lil root coming out bottom, not long tho maybe 1/16th inch. I can see the first 7 leave sprout. And also when do i top?? After i see the 2nd or 3rd 7 leaf?
Any input is greatly appriciated!!!

Blueberry #1 is growing decent. Stem seems to be leaning sideways, but leaves look good.

Blueberry #2 isnt getting any taller, seem to be trying to grow the 5 leaf, like there all coming out of the same node. Kinda weird.

The proper time to transplant is when the roots have filled that cup. The way you can tell that is by the water usage. If she can drain the cup after you have watered in 24-48 hours, it is time to triple her space and then start all over trying to fill that container with roots.
Topping is a science. If you top anywhere above the 4th node, you get two main shoots. If you top between 3 and 4 you get sometimes 2, sometimes 3 and rarely 4 main shoots. This cut usually takes longer to recover from than any of the others. If you wait till you can just see node 5 rising up, and then you cut way down between 2 and 3, you get 4 main shoots.

Ahh thank you. It was 2 days no water, so perhaps ill see what happens by the weekend. As for topping how do i know what the first node is? The single set of leaves or like the 7leaf fans? Also is transplanting and topping at same time a bad idea, should i wait a day or 2 inbetween. Thanks again!!

N/m ,Emilya's got you covered !

4 main colas sound nice. Maybe ill transplant blackberry 2maro. Then has time to recover before topping. Seems like alot of plant to cut off or you think i should try 2 main colas being a first time grow. Not sure if topping so low is "dangerous"?
