Edge's Grow Journal

4 main colas sound nice. Maybe ill transplant blackberry 2maro. Then has time to recover before topping. Seems like alot of plant to cut off or you think i should try 2 main colas being a first time grow. Not sure if topping so low is "dangerous"?
whatever you are comfortable with, but you won't know till you try it. Between 4 and 5 is a good compromise.

Day 15
Temp 78/66, RH 50%
They didnt need water today.

I went ahead and transplanted them so they have time to recover before topping. Soil still being moist they both slide right out the whole solo cup intact, woohoo. Blueberry could have waited longer but since i was at it, i did them both. I used Happy Frog soil with 20% scotts organic perlite added. I soaked the bottom 3 inches of the pots only seeing as how they still had moist soil. Also used dryer sheets to block the drain holes. I dont think i will need to soak them for a few days now i hope.

The light was also moved 2 inches closer to 28 inches.

Blueberry #2 wont continue on as i dont want to cram my tent for a first grow, but i left her in there to see if she ever becomes normal and how long they can last in a solo so i know in the furture.

Day 16
I think and hope blackberry was thirsty and thats what the drooping is from. The pots seemed pretty dry as i didnt water really after transplant. I soaked them good. I noticed pouring makes the soil all unstable moving i hope thats okay. Not a good feeling seeing blackberry droopy tho. Blueberry is loving it.

I dont think it was the water blackberry needed, not sure whays going on. Perhaps transplant shock? I would think blueberry would look droopy also if it was overwatering, but its doing good. Blackberry is only one drooping and also didnt slide out the solo cup as easy. Hope thats all it is.

Topped just after the 4th node. Blueberry #2 i chopped to the 2nd node to see what happens. I should be able to top again once the 3 new colas come and make 4?

I tied down blackberry to grow outwards instead of up.

Blueberry #1 seems sooo compact idk how i can even lst it.. perhaps in time

Blueberry #2 already has 2 growth nodes where i topped at. The others only seem to have one growth spot.

Are the 2 branches below where i topped the new colas?!?!? Or will new growth sprout from right where i topped.

The 2 branches you see will become new colas, along with the 2 below them.

The nodes on mine were so "tight" that when I topped them,I did a genuine fim on one,
So now it's got 7 mains (should be 6,but ended up 7)-the other one has 5,which is one more than expected.
Your plants are all looking real good-keep doing what you're doing !

I would say that you should up-pot within the next few days-the roots grow like ten times faster than the plant, those pots/cups are probably pretty full by now...

Thanks!! They have only been in those pots maybe 7 days, not very long. I plan to goto 5 gal next. Exciting to see them grow.

Day 22
77/67* 50%
I finally have a good track on temp and my water cycle is doing great. Dont think i need to post about it.

The house was stinky when i walked in today. Michigan was 65 outside!! Im still only using one fan on low setting. I closed the room door for now. I could turn on the extractor fan, but i open the door enough for oxygen now.

Blackberry is getting big omg lol.
Blueberry #1 I managed to tie down a little.
Blueberry #2 is still hanging out in the solo cup.

In these pice there is a before and after of Blueberry #1 tied down.

They're looking good..
Just one little thing-you don't want to tie the fanleaves down. (although it wont really hurt anything)
You want to wait for the branches to get long enough, then tie them down-other than that, you've
got exactly the right idea.:thumb:

You should never uppot based on a feeling.... use the science that the wet/dry cycle allows you to see. Do not uppot until the roots show you that they need more room, or they will not try to fill out that container. Developing a rootball is not a natural thing for a plant to do, you have to force them to do that. The only way to make that happen is to constrict the container size just enough to cause them to fill out the roots, but yet not wait so long that they get constricted. Being able to drain the water in 48 hours or less is a good way to tell that you are there.

@Emilya is quite right-I'm apparently a bit over zealous right now about up-potting,since I just
stunted an auto by leaving it in the solo cup too long-

I didn't think it could possibly be rootbound as soon as it was,so I didn't even check the roots until the plant stopped growing for 3 or 4 days, and started looking "not happy"....If I'd of read the signs like I should have,I would have up potted a week or so sooner.

Not that it would be much bigger if I'd of done it right,it's a small strain,anyway(LowRyder#2),
but it might be a foot tall instead of only 8"

Sorry if I pointed you in the wrong direction, and thanks,Emilya, for the "wake up call" :peace:

yep, no worries. Auto's are completely different and you do have to uppot them fairly rapidly, but again, not as rapidly as some tend to do. You can still build up the framwork of a rootball while an auto is vegging, if you are alert enough to the signs.
