Gelato, Cali Orange & Cheese: HID 400W

Hey all!

Getting close to a month in veg. Hoping it would take roughly 60 days, but the plants will be the judge of that.

Have some questions if anyone has time to answer any

1) When flip to flower, they only stretch for a good week right? So, should I leave MH bulb in for a week after flip? Or HPS right away?

2) Have kept plants low so far. Would you A) start letting grow vertically? Or B) Cover entire pot surface with leaves, then vertical growth? Something else?




3) 400w lights came with tent purchase. MH was broken, so I bought new one. The ones that came with tent are online cheap. The new purchase was from store and rather pricey. Anyone know if this FloraSun is way better and be worth buying a more expensive HPS as well?

They will stretch for 10 days to 2 weeks... and will usually at least double in height. Most people need to take this calculation into consideration after judging how much vertical space they have left.

Ya sorry, didn't mean "only stretch for a week".. my wording wasn't great there.

More so trying to ask... Given that after switching to 12/12 they will only be stretching for at least a week, and not producing bud, should I keep the MH light in for a while after switch? Or put in the HPS the day of switch?

Wowza! Max'd the height of my light today, left 2 feet wiggle room for HID light, and surprised how low I'll have to keep the plants!

Only want the plants to hit the bottom of black tape.. When completely finished! So better only let them veg to roughly the crease in the tent..

PS. The Gelato whose stem I broke has so many main colas now. Looks cool! Wasnt a bad thing at all

Can you have too many colas?? Say you're tying down the main stem entire grow, tying down secondarys, tying them... Which creates a tonnnn of colas growing in smaller tent. Is this too much?! Maybe trying to grow bud in soo many different spots it won't have energy to produce quality? Just thinking... Never a good thing

Really filling out nice! Might try to lay off the LST for now and allow some height. Then switch em over.

Cut a large fan leaf off today. Tried taking pics with my magnification thing-a-ma-jig.. It starts at 60x and my camera sucks. But here's my best effort at one pic of leaf and 2 of stem.. stem running horizontal.

Two questions would love opinions on.

1) Given pics in second last post, how much bud roughly do you think each plant could grow if flipped right now??

2) Total opposite idea... If I did a big defoliation right now and gave a couple weeks to recover, do you think they'd be too big for tent? Can grow somewhere between another foot or two vertically.

The remaining leaves are praying harder than ever. They look good. Think it really helped everything receive good lighting.

Also went too long without water for first time ever.. The whole plant loses its strength. Stems fall over, leaves point straight down.. Its as if the plant has lost all "muscle" and ability to stand on its own!

Hey guys. Here they are 5-6 days after a big defoliation.

Getting the odd bad looking leaf. Still look happy overall. Any ideas what this would be indicating?

Quick reminder.. this one I'm showing broke her stem a while ago, so I cut it. And I stuck steel wire into the soil that is surely rusting now

But here it is. New growth.. Leaf loses colour slowly, while turning a shade of black, and edges all claw underneath. Only one or two like this.. Thanks

Here is that plant overall today... She had been watered recently and is therefore drooping more.



The "Cheese" plant was always growing slowest.. Called her the runt of litter lol. But she is taking off like no other! Probably my favourite now

Update
​

- Day 73 from seed being placed in water
- Day 40 of Veg
- 9 days after a large defoliation

Plan: Stop LST unless absolutely needed. Allow vertical growth for roughly 4 or 5 more inches. This will be max'd out in height if I allow for the plants to atleast double while stretching.

-Cali Orange: Only sativa looking leaves in my opinion.

-Gelato: Plant who's stem broke. No new main stem(s) ever took over. The two stems/nodes closest to break did bulk up a bit!

-Gelato 2: My favourite from the start.

-Cheese: Always the slowest, smallest.. Had a huge growth spurt lately! A monster now.

Awesome job on the training and i feel you timed your defoliation right - they seemed to love it. Looking great bro, how much longer do you plan on vegging for?

For your question.. guessing I'll veg one or two more weeks roughly. I set up black tape at my height limit (leaving a few extra inches play), and tape at the half way mark.. Figured I'd let them grow to half way mark. Or is this tooo tall considering stretch and how much I've LST'd?? Thanks again man

Probably going to flip to 12/12 after this weekend. Maybe even tomorrow (Saturday).
