Skoondawg's Soil, South African Bag Seed, HPS & CFL SCROG Cabinet 2016/17

I was planning on making one myself .could u Send me what u used and I'll try it out I'd rather save money I haven't got lol.

Just used a sheet of stainless steel mesh, which was cut into appropriate sizes to make two cylindrical tubes - one with a diameter of 25cm and another 22.5cm. In that 2.5cm gap went in the activated carbon (about 9kg). And sealed on either side with plywood.

Bare in mind I have two exhausts each with an industrial cooling fan, like a super charged computer fan (used in stainless steel cutting lazer machines) but no where near as strong as an inline fan. Thus each exhaust has ducting leading into either side of the carbon filter (the other side also has a hole for ducting) and yeah that's about it.

Got about half the hairs still straight and white, other half brown and curled in. Slowly getting there :D Will have an update on trichomes too in the next day or so :)

Peace ouuut.

Nice job of your mate checking your plants. Going to Phuket end of this year. Definately not growing then :)

Your plants look like they will need another 2 weeks or only harvest parts of the plants and look how the rest keeps growing to get a clue. You will learn more about weed in the same time doing so. If you go this 'all the same treatment all the same harvest' you need years to learn what you could learn from one grow.

Harvest 50%, split it in 2, trim and wash half of that 50% and leave the rest dry regular. Then after a week or 2 depending on the looks harvest the rest doing the same. Now you have tested 4 different ways of harvesting/curing and know what performed best for yoir desires with that strain.

I always play around this way. I also boil the roots of 2/3 of the plants and compare it to the common routines. Well worth it.

Anyway

Dont care for amber right now, if you touch a bud and crack a trichome its turning amber. When you wash your buds a part of that weak dead amber breaks anyway. Why should we grow a sativa and wait to THC degenerate. If you harvest all FULLY milky trichomes you get the best out of your genetics if its a regular clear/white/amber strain. The product cures and degenerates more THC over time, so harvest all cloudy and the curing does its job. I bet they have more D9 THC after some weeks if harvested with only a tiny amount of amber.

I harvested a 90% Sativa after 7, after 8 and after 10 weeks of flower and the earlier ones outperformed the 10 week plants by far for their unique effects. After 10 weeks and some more weeks of cure the plant felt like alot like other strains. Pretty good stuff but just nothing special any more because of 2 more weeks. The 8 weeker had perfect medicinal qualities. Breeder said 65 to 70 days but until then it was not what i was looking for any more..

I mean, i like that couchlock too, but i dont grow or smoke a sativa to get there. So there is no reason to hope for a amber couchlock. Just get some other weed for that. Grow a sledgehammer indica next to your sativa next time and check how that works out for you.

I wish you the best. Happy you go DIY too. Looking forward to your COBs. That DIY carbon filter really got me. I am looking for a tiny 'One COB 1x1x2 box' where i can produce some feminized seeds or my own breed in with 2 small plants, with a filter like this i can save some serious bucks.

Atomical Haze x Nebula. Call it...Nuclear Starcloud :)) put 3 clones of each into soil 2 days ago for that reason. The genetics i have really got me. They seem rock solid for mostly sativas and perform very well side by side. Can you tell wheres what? :)

Thanks for popping by, was getting a bit lonely in here lol :) Yeah when I started the grow I ensured that he could help me out and he was more than happy to :) Phuket is awesome, I have no doubt you'll enjoy your time.

I only get back in 2 weeks therefore this time around I will harvest all at once as my friend doesn't have all the necessary knowledge to do so. Also we don't have a drying chamber and therefore it will need to hang in the box when cut down.

Once I build my new flowering cabinet for the COB set up I'm hoping to also make a small drying box. Got some mesh left over so will probably make small sized carbon filters for that purpose, I am glad you like it though. Ridiculous how much they expect us to pay for a filter here in SA, and it's really simple to make if you don't have two left hands.

Thanks for clarifying the amber for me, I did read somewhere that when touched they get damaged and turn amber, so nice to hear :)

From then start I did want to harvest 100% cloudy, as the grow went on for some reason I began to think maybe 10-20% amber will be nice, but I think you're right, why let the goodness degrade!

I have many years of growing ahead of me and am happy to learn slowly and become more knowledgeable with each grow, I will dab into partial harvesting next time round most probably as I will be around all grow. I don't wanna miss my ladies flowering ever again :D

Pat and I also plan to make small breeding boxes to further the strains we have managed to get together, tough getting hold of decent genetics here.

However next grow will finally be able to pick and choose from a bunch of seeds, instead of unknown bagseed. I am glad they turned out more sativa dominant though :D Will most definitely throw in a strong indica too next time round :D

Your plants are looking really happy under those COBs. My eye isn't so good yet so can't really tell where's what . I will tell you though, that those cobs looking wonderful too, cannot wait to get back and start the joys of a DIY set up :D :D

Here's a full shot from an hour or so ago :) they are bulking up nicely :D

Yes, i guess you are right. From this pictures i think 2 weeks are enough. I just would not add any more nitrogen to them or they keep shooting out pistils till harvest time %-) ever tried to give them only 11 or 10 hours of light for ripening? Never done that, but it sounds good for the last week or so for mainly sativas.

How much does a 200mm 1000m3 filter cost you? I spent 140€ for a industrial one that can be refilled.

I've started just watering with water from now, might be a tad soon but we will see how the plants react. Was using bio bizz bloom (2-7-4) prior to stopping the nutes.

The mesh was like R550 for 2mx1.2m sheet (around 34 euro), the 9kg of carbon was more expensive tbh (R90 a kg - R810). We had a good amount of mesh left over too. Can't give you a price for that exact size. But it was way cheaper than the R2000+ filters here, and this one was way bigger than what can be bought I think. We needed surface area cos the fans weren't so strong

Yea i have seen a nice DIY filter out of 2 different sized metal meshed trash cans and old ladies underpants as a outer shell. They are pretty small, maybe 120mm final diameter. But i guess that will do for a couple of tiny seed grows.

Just found a white 30x30x60cm box for growing seeds.

The mesh I used was fine enough to not need any outer material fortunately, looks more aesthetic without it .

Nice. That's exactly what you wanted. Is a box that small big enough for two small plants? If so, that's good to know .

Time will tell. In the end all i want to yield are seeds, so i guess i can beat the crap out of them to stay small. My clones in 1L airpots never grew bigger then 8 inches, so there may be room for 4 of them. I guess an 8 inch plant could carry houndreds of seeds.

I suppose they don't need to very wide either, just one main cola full of seeds? I can actually imagine 4 fitting in there quite snug. But time will tell, don't forget to journal it .
