Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL - LED

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Good stuff Sue! I understand it a little better now. Maybe it's because your starting post was put in a little more dummy terms than Zig's was or maybe us dummies need to see it twice before we get it. LOL... Either way, good stuff.

Sorry for being so slow Dr. Zig. You're the man.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Pots are filled and on the SWICK. From left to right we have 3 kit pots, then 3 LOS pots and a finish of 2 kit pots. I surrounded the LOS with the HB kit pots so the energy could flow freely throughout. :laughtwo: I'll probably rotate them around the tray daily to get equal light access. We'll see.

image24739.jpg

The pots got just a bit of top watering to prime the pump. They're happily sucking the water out of the tray. I'll let them chill here until I'm ready to plant.

I hung a grid to support any CFLs I want to suspend.

image24737.jpg

It certainly is bright in there. That's going to make a tremendous difference in my plants. Wow! The heat builds quickly too, even from just 46 watts. I'll need to get to ordering the ventilation system.

image24738.jpg

Now I have a couple days to decide which seeds to grow. Dale has requested the Cheese Candy be the seed for the big pot, so that's decided. Time to pull out the list. I need 7 more choices.

Sunday is my projected planting day. I'll figure out how to keep air moving and heat down until I have the ventilation installed.

Getting more and more excited. :slide:

SweetSue's CHANGE OF PLANS

I've been watching DrZiggy pull off the perpetual garden I was dreaming of when I started this adventure, before I found this wonderful forum. My biggest challenge was figuring out how to control the size of the plants. Ziggy figured out that a combination of smaller pots and an 11/13 lighting schedule would achieve just that. Then he threw them onto a SWICK and my blood began to pump faster.

Yesterday, as I prepared to start setting up the tent, I decided that it's totally ridiculous to even consider planting a big pot, when I was watching DrZiggy live out my vision. I'll be shifting gears and setting up a system that mirrors his, starting my first set of pots this month and adding on another every month until I have three going. That gives me time to set up the CFL array for the next set, and to purchase some T5s for the veg stage that will follow in the third month.

This first group will have the LED and CFL supplementation all the way through, since they're the first group. At the end of two months I'll have a shelf for the seedlings under CFLs, a shelf for vegging under T5s and a finish area under the LED with side lighting from CFLs. One month under each, give or take some stragglers. After it's running smoothly you harvest every 4-6 weeks. Sweet. Sweet. Sweet.

I decided to get started. I had a drainage tray from my first grow, so I pulled it out, grabbed the bag of perlite and some water and went to work. I am ashamed to report that I neglected to byuse a mask (I know, I know - one of these days I'll play smarter). Set a better example than I did.

image24726.jpg

image24728.jpg

There was this interesting technique that just kind of happened. I quickly dumped the perlite in and went away for a few minutes to let the dust settle. Then I came back and started spreading it around, very gently shifting it back and forth with my fingers as I worked it from center out. An instinctive move that had the effect of packing it in more uniformly. When I get home I'll see how much higher I can pile the perlite. After it's saturated you can mound it somewhat. Maybe design some towers of perlite that the pots perch on. Hmmmmm.

After filling it with about a gallon of water I discovered that I'd forgotten about the fact that there isn't a level floor in our apartment when a stream of water began trickling over the back right corner to form a little puddle in the corner of the tent. :laughtwo:

I cleaned up the mess and leveled it with that little piece of strategically placed wood you see jutting from the right front. I'll make that safer when I get home tonight. Another set of crates will replace that singular one. Safety first.

I decided on eight pots to start. I'll be planting another seed in the LOS pot with the Dark Devil and then 5 of the azalea pots will be planted with the HB kit soil and the other 3 in LOS.

image24729.jpg

I'll pot the soil up tonight and post a picture.

We're about to do something very interesting here. I'm pretty damned excited. :yahoo:

:circle-of-love:

Isn't it great when you figure out how and where you will use your lights and the, process you will use to grow... At least this grow..

It is such a feeling of a grand adventure ahead as it all falls into place. :)

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Ooo I really like how you put the racks in the top for suspension. Nice.

What are the options for the other 7, maybe we can help. :)

Yes it is Rad. Yes it is. I'm excited and.... content. As soon as I made the decision yesterday it was like a weight had lifted. I feel energized and inspired. WooHoo!!!

Sorenna, here's my list.

Sexing Seeds: Part Two

Once you get the hang of the sexing it's so obvious which ones are female. If that depression is anything other than perfectly round, set them aside and don't take chances (unless chances are your intention).

The Easter Bunny grows cannabis, and sometimes he breeds. Sometimes this breeding is an unexpected event. Other times it's a planned romance. Part of the package he left on my doorstop were two straws with seeds from both of these occurrences.

The straw marked "Mine" were a planned union. The Easter Bunny informs me that this was a marriage of Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia. He claims it is, in his words, "kick ass". Sweet. There were 12 females and 8 males from this genetic mingling.

image22568.jpg

The ones marked "Unknown" were unplanned surprises. There is no way to determine their genetic line. Wild card seeds. What fun! There were 12 females and 11 males in this batch. I slipped the males into a marked bag and stored them together. Should I ever decide to play.....

So this is the beginning of my seed bank. I had to stop there and laugh out loud. I'm MOTM and I'm building a seed bank. This is too rich. A year ago I didn't even know people grew their own in the manner we all take for granted and today I have an extensive collection of available seeds to begin planting, growing and harvesting. Yahoo!!!

image22571.jpg

So, the list of female seeds available, as promised.

Beginning with seeds from seed banks. I was quite impressed with this sorting. Every one of the seeds, which I assume for the most part were freebies, was obviously female.

First the Regular seeds

- Dark Devil (1) *And may I say WooHoo!!* :slide:
- Magilla Seeds Super Lemon Haze x Blue Satellite 2.2 (1) *Two of the seeds in the bag were damaged*
- Sleestack Skunk (1)
- Exotic Genetix Ultimate Lavander (2)
- Afghani (2)
- African Buzz (2) **This one excites me**

Total: 9

Feminized Seeds

- Delicious Critical Super Silver Haze (1)
- World of Seeds Strawberry Blue (1)
- TH Seeds Wreckage (1)
- TH Seeds Original BubbleGum (1)
- Delicious Seeds Cheese Candy (1)
- Buddha Tahoe OG (6)

Total: 11

The Autos

- Green House Seeds Kalashnikova Auto (3)
- TH Seeds Auto Critical Hog (1)
- Auto Skunk (3)
- Auto Destroyer (2)
- Auto JH (3)
- Soul Breeders White Widow Auto (2)

Total: 14

The Easter Bunny's breeding results

- "Unknown" (12)
- "Mine" (12)

Total: 24

Last but not least, the bag seeds

- New Years Celebration Bag Seeds (30 females)
- Random bag seeds of unknown lineage (25 females)

Total: 55

Add it all up and we have a Grand Total of 113 available seeds.

OK. That made me pause. I'm just a bit overwhelmed at the generosity here. Hold on. Let me take a few hits and contemplate.........................

I think we're going to have a splendid time for years to come. I hear you MassMedMan. Storage. Let me look around and do some research on proper storage.

I am one happy medicinal farmer. Humbled and floored and bubbling over with joy and expectation.

Let's have some fun. :laughtwo::green_heart:

I keep coming back to this picture. It's obvious at a glance which soil is which. I can't comprehend how the HB kit soil can support the diversity of soil food web that the LOS is equipped for. It's disconcerting.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Very impressive list. I can list my seeds one by one on my fingers and still have 4 digits left. lol

I think you should definitely have the Dark Devil and the African Buzz, because you noted interest in those two in particular. The Lavender one interests me, but I like the smell of lavender, but the taste might be off putting? I dont know. Interesting, at any rate.

Ummm, keep in mind while Im rambling that I know next to nothing about these strains and the names appeal to my choices more than anything else. haha I dont know what you are wanting grow... photos, autos, combination.

Next, I think Super Critical Haze and maybe Wreckage. They sound so dangerous! lol And, maybe Green House Seeds Kalashnikova Auto because Ive never heard of it but the name makes it sound exotic. And the Destroyer. Ive seen that strain in the plant and nug contests before.

Good luck. So many options. Its nice to have those types of problems, right? lol

Pulling the old chicago shuffle switch up :) I like!

:laughtwo:

Ok, gotta share. Antics posted a text message conversation with his GF after she tried some of his harvest. Do yourself a favor and go read that. Laughed my ass off on the bus all the way home! :laughtwo:

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

:) Looks like somebody is about to step up production. :ganjamon:

That's definitely the plan GhettoGro. It occurred to me today that I'm going to have to start stockpiling seeds. :laughtwo: Thankfully, that's not a concern for a while, but I need to get serious and start planning a bit more.

Not much more, mind you. This is supposed to be fun. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Interesting story: Yesterday I came home and tossed 4 grams of Buddha Magnum into the oven at 225 F.......and completely forgot about it for two hours. That was intended for the daughter's bedtime brownies, and this was the last batch I was going to be able to bake for her, because the harvest has been almost completely consumed. Imagine my horror when I realized I may have destroyed the quality of the cannabis by roasting instead of baking.

It came out a toasty green and I sat down to test it. To my great surprise it was actually better than any of the rest had been. I have no explanation. It defies reason, and yet it happened. It was so good that I cut it into chunks and treated Dale with it today. It hit faster and deeper. He noticed an appreciable difference and was quite mellow when I left him.

Side bar: if you have never tried baked buds I highly recommend. It hits rather quickly, usually within 20 minutes with good quality meds, and lasts longer than smoking does. I've begun to suspect there may be healing you can only get by ingesting the plant whole.

I do not recommend you try this, but you can bet your boots that when I have adequate stocks to play I'll give it another try.

So, anyone have any idea why roasting for 2 hrs would improve quality? Could this simply be a fluke?

What's funny is how much of what you rambled was going on in my own head. LOL!

Kalashnikova sounds exotic, the African Buzz had already enticed me and I have two seeds, so I'll still have one to grow big when I do a big pot run again. Destroyer because..... do I really even have to say it? I want to do two sets, one in each soil, so that I can compare them after curing. Those will be from my Easter Bunny's batch of Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia and from the unknown New Years bag seeds. So with Cheese Candy that makes 8 of the 9 I'm looking for. The Super Lemon Haze x Blue Satellite will finish it off.

There.

Cheese Candy, New Years Bag Seed, Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia, and Kalashnikova in LOS. Everyone else in the HB kit soil.

Thanks Sorenna. That helped.

Time for to bed. See you all tomorrow.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

I find myself incredibly humbled by the turn of events in my life over the past 6 months. I'm being supported emotionally by the warmest forum community around as I pass through the most difficult waters in our 34 years of marriage, growing donated seeds in a donated tent under a donated light. I keep expecting to wake up. :laughtwo:

I hope I have communicated effectively how I take none of this for granted and my heart swells with gratitude. That's a more florid version of something I ask Dale every single day;

"Have I told you lately how much I love you?"

Rest assured I do. Every last one of you.

On to the business at hand. I keep trying to cut back on the number of pictures. I really do.

Daily Update: Dark Devil. Auto. - Day 46

image24758.jpg

She's going to pause again? On Sunday she gets another enzyme tea, although I may use a neem/kelp tea instead. I think the package is waiting for me at the post office.

There are two one gallon pots in there as well. Maybe I can plant something and see how much difference there would be in the development compared to the azalea pots? I'm sure I could find a slip of space under the lights.

Closing out today with some treats. Don't you just love a healthy stand of trichomes?

See ? Worth the time invested, wasn't it? I stop back and look at them again during the day too. :laughtwo:

Of course, the pot got a 1/4 turn. I drenched the soils with 1/2 cup of coconut juice and a bit less than 1/4 cup of aloe vera juice added to a half gallon of good water and split between the pots.

While you enjoy the post I'm getting down on the mat and practice Callanetics. Thursday is my trophy wife maintenance day. :laughtwo: It just tickles me when he calls me his trophy wife.

Have an extra-special day. Spread that joy with absolute abandon. Let's light up the world today. :laughtwo::green_heart:

Did you wrap it in foil or just leave it open & when you say "roasted" do you mean you baked it, broiled it or what? I may want to try this today.

I weigh out what I need, put it on a baking dish (these little Grab-it things are invaluable) and pop it in the oven on 225F for 30 minutes, just like what you see here. Wide open. Tuesday I simply forgot about it and didn't hear the timer go off, so it stayed in there for about two hours. It had a nice roasted look when it came out, like it had been playing in the sun and became golden, the way children do. :laughtwo:

For experimental purposes I'd try 90 minutes. I'll be watching for your report. I may have stumbled onto something here. Isn't that always the way it goes? You think you screwed up and what you actually did was advance the cause.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

That picture I posted above represents the tail end of my harvest, or what I'm willing to smoke. I still have the main colas from both plants, which are supposed to be saved for when Dale gets home. We weren't expecting him to be in nursing care so long. I want to experience the 3 month cure, so I'll keep them set aside. It'll be difficult, but I hope achievable. The shortage is only temporary.

But there's this sadness in watching it dwindle. I promised myself I would avoid that panicky feeling you get when you know it's going to run out. I want us to enjoy the hell out of that sense of freedom. It's a mainstay in my household from now on.

Oils, butter, edibles of every sort. There's the reality I'm chasing now - to offer my family easy and constant access to their meds.

Thank you all for helping me support that vision. Let's have some serious fun growing a steady supply of potent meds. WooHoo!!!

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Looking good Sue.

Seems to be a Sativa year everybody get some, I just ordered some on Sunday.
Was also exited by African Buzz and get 3 reg seeds, hope they arrive soon.
Got 5 weeks left on my next harvest and need clones from every plant so may be to short time.

I hope I can convince my grow buddy to wait a week, will be hard with veg area full of Plants still waiting.
But I need some sativa :grinjoint: should be doable as Sunday starts a new batch of Blue Dream on my P450.
And I will reserve at least 2-3 plants spots under the P 600.

Plan is to germinate 3 reg African Buzz, 3 reg Jamaica Grape and 2 fem Green Crack from Sick Meds.
Try to get some in or make mothers for later.

That Green Crack sounds good too (as all  ) but seems to be very fast 49 - 55 days.

Wish you and Dale the best
